Abstract

The waste issue remains a priority environmental health concern in Indonesia, including in Dusun Beran, Jetis District, Bantul Regency, Special Region of Yogyakarta. The closure of the Piyungan Landfill has led to an increase in the practice of burning household organic waste, reflecting the limited capacity of the community in managing waste at the source. However, organic waste generated at the household level has the potential to be processed into valuable products. This community service program aims to enhance community awareness, knowledge, and skills in organic waste management through an innovation called GAPURA (Galon Pupuk Organik Ramah Lingkungan - Environmentally Friendly Organic Fertilizer Gallon). The implementation method includes problem identification through surveys, the presentation of materials, practical training on organic waste processing, and evaluation using pre-test and post-test designs. The evaluation results show a significant increase in participants' average knowledge scores from 77 to 85, representing a 12.5% improvement, with a p-value of 0.001. These findings indicate that the GAPURA training program is effective in improving the community's capacity to manage waste at the source. This program contributes to strengthening waste management efforts and supports the achievement of the Bantul Regency Waste-Free target.

Abstract

Improper medication management at the household level is still commonly found in the community, including inappropriate use, storage, and disposal of medicines. These practices may cause health risks and environmental problems. Therefore, educational interventions are needed to improve public awareness through the DAGUSIBU program (Obtain, Use, Store, and Dispose of Medicines Properly) and understanding of Beyond Use Date (BUD). This community service activity aimed to increase the knowledge of women participating in religious study groups in Sinar Harapan Hamlet, Muhajirin Village, Muaro Jambi Regency. The activity was conducted through health education using leaflet media accompanied by interactive discussions. The results showed positive responses from participants, and the educational materials were well received, providing additional insight regarding proper medication management, particularly related to DAGUSIBU and Beyond Use Date (BUD). The use of leaflets proved effective in delivering concise and easily understood information. Education on DAGUSIBU and BUD is expected to promote safer and more rational medication management practices at the household level.

Abstract

The increasing demand for effective and safe antiseptic products has encouraged the development of natural-based hand sanitizers as an alternative to synthetic chemical products. Betel leaves (Piper betle L.) contain bioactive compounds such as flavonoids, tannins, saponins, eugenol, and essential oils that have been proven to have antibacterial activity against various pathogenic microorganisms. This community service activity aims to increase the knowledge and skills of the community of Sinar Harapan Hamlet, Muhajirin Village, Jambi Luar Kota District in making hand sanitizers from boiled betel leaf extract. The activity was carried out on January 22, 2026, using counseling methods, direct demonstrations, and group practice involving 25 participants from among housewives and health cadres. The manufacturing process includes boiling betel leaves in distilled water, filtering the filtrate, and mixing with 70% alcohol and glycerin as a humectant. The results of the activity showed that the community was able to practice making hand sanitizer independently and produced 20 bottles of 50 ml products that were distributed to residents. The enthusiasm and active participation of participants reflected the high acceptance of health innovations based on local natural ingredients. This activity makes a positive contribution to increasing community independence and supporting the implementation of clean and healthy living behaviors (PHBS).

Abstract

Stunting and underweight remain nutritional problems in toddlers, impacting their physical growth, cognitive development, and long-term health. Monitoring of integrated health service posts (Posyandu) in Brenggong Village, Purworejo Regency, from December 2025 to January 2026, revealed that toddlers with poor nutritional status, particularly underweight, are still at risk of stunting. This issue highlights the need for ongoing prevention and management efforts by strengthening the role of Posyandu cadres as the spearhead of health services at the village level. This community service activity aims to improve the knowledge and role of Posyandu cadres through the socialization of the 3P Movement (Monitoring, Assistance, and Nutritional Intelligence) in preventing stunting and underweight in toddlers. The implementation method includes assisting Posyandu toddlers in six neighborhood units (RW) in Brenggong Village through anthropometric measurements, providing Supplementary Feeding (PMT), and providing nutrition education to mothers of toddlers. Furthermore, the 3P Movement was socialized to all Posyandu cadres by providing educational media in the form of a stunting and underweight bulletin board. The results of the activity indicate that the integrated health service post (Posyandu) plays a crucial role in early detection of toddler nutritional issues, and that the Posyandu cadres' understanding of toddler growth and development monitoring, mentoring families of toddlers with nutritional problems, and providing nutrition education based on local foods has increased. This activity is expected to support positive community behavior change and contribute to a sustainable reduction in the risk of stunting and underweight in Brenggong Village.

Abstract

Posyandu cadres play a strategic role in improving the nutritional status of young children through nutrition education and appropriate feeding practices. However, the cadres’ limited knowledge and skills remain a barrier to the dissemination of nutritional information to the community. This community service activity aims to enhance the capacity of Posyandu cadres in nutrition education and infant feeding in RW IV Kupang Krajan, Surabaya. The methods used included a pre-test, education through interactive lectures, discussions, simulations (role-play), and a post-test to evaluate knowledge improvement. A total of 20 Posyandu cadres participated in this activity. The pre-test results showed that 60% of cadres had good knowledge, 35% had adequate knowledge, and 5% had insufficient knowledge. Following the intervention, the post-test results showed an increase in knowledge, with 95% of cadres demonstrating good knowledge, 5% adequate knowledge, and no cadres in the insufficient knowledge category. Furthermore, the results of observations using a skills assessment sheet showed that 85% of the cadres were able to provide nutrition education and feed infants and young children at a ‘good’ level. This activity was effective in improving the knowledge and skills of Posyandu cadres in nutrition education and feeding infants and young children. It is hoped that this capacity building will support better feeding practices for infants and young children and contribute to the prevention of nutritional problems in the community.

Abstract

Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) remains a public health problem in Indonesia that requires environmentally based prevention efforts and active community participation. The reliance on chemical insecticides for mosquito control may cause negative impacts on human health and the environment. The utilization of local plants such as lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus) and lime (Citrus aurantifolia) as natural repellents offers a safer and household-based alternative. This community service program aimed to improve the knowledge and skills of housewives in utilizing lemongrass and lime through demonstrations of making natural mosquito repellent spray. The activity was conducted for two days at the Muhajirin Village Arts Hall using counseling with leaflet media, demonstration sessions, and independent practice. The results showed an increase in participants’ understanding of the relationship between household environmental management and DHF incidence, as well as improved skills in independently producing natural spray. This activity had a positive impact on raising community awareness regarding the potential of local plants and supporting environmentally friendly DHF prevention efforts.

Abstract

Hypertension remains a complex and escalating public health issue, particularly affecting adults and the elderly. Recently, the incidence among adolescents has also risen, necessitating lifelong medical management. Without comprehensive treatment and monitoring, hypertension can progress to fatal complications such as coronary heart disease and stroke.Maintaining optimal health is critical, especially for security personnel whose duties demand high physical and mental stamina to ensure public safety.  This study highlights a concerning phenomenon within the security community of RW 13 Kebraon Indah Permai, Surabaya, consisting of 34 members. The majority are diagnosed with uncontrolled hypertension. Several individuals have suffered recurrent strokes, including one fatal case of a third stroke, where the victim was found deceased without family present.  These findings indicate an urgent need for structured health interventions, routine blood pressure monitoring, health education, and psychosocial support tailored to high-risk occupational groups.

Abstract

The implementation of the Smart Community in Using Medicines program is a strategy to improve public awareness regarding rational drug use as well as disease prevention. This community service activity was conducted in Maro Sebo Village, Jambi Luar Kota District, Muaro Jambi Regency for 30 days targeting residents of RT 01, RT 02, and students of SDN 112/IX. The methods used included socialization, counseling, and health examinations. Activities included Smart Pharmacist (Apoteker Cilik) education, nail hygiene counseling, self-medication education for cough and cold, dengue fever prevention with the introduction of natural mosquito repellent spray, and free blood pressure screening accompanied by hypertension education at the elderly integrated health post. Initial observations showed that the dominant health problems included hypertension, diabetes mellitus, respiratory tract infections, cough and cold, and digestive disorders in children. The results indicated high community participation in improving personal hygiene awareness, rational drug use, and disease prevention. Blood pressure screening revealed that most elderly participants had stage 1 hypertension.
