Abstract

The WHO indicates that the incidence of teenage pregnancy in women aged 15 to 19 years is 49 per 1,000 women. The incidence of teenage pregnancy in Indonesia is 48 per 1,000 women. According to the 2017 Indonesian Child Protection Agency (SDKI), the percentage of first-time sexual intercourse in adolescents increased from 59% in the 2012 SDKI to 74%. One of the problems that occurs during adolescence is risky sexual behavior. This problem tends to be carried out by adolescents aged 15-21 years. The results of the initial evaluation obtained an average knowledge score of 9.92 with a minimum score of 3 and a maximum of 14, the posttest showed an increase in knowledge score from 12.46 with a minimum score of 4 and a maximum of 15. Education using animated video media has been proven effective in increasing adolescent knowledge about reproductive health.

Abstract

Putri Ayu Public Health Center is one of the 20 health centers in Jambi City that has a significantly high number of adolescent pregnancy cases. Over the last five years (2020-2024), there were 164 cases of adolescent pregnancy. Specifically, there were 33 cases in 2020, 33 in 2021, 35 in 2022, 31 in 2023, and 32 in 2024. Among these cases, eight pregnancies involved adolescents aged 14-15 years. Therefore, a team of lecturers and students from Baiturrahim University felt the need to conduct a community service activity in the form of establishing an Adolescent Mother Class in Sungai Putri Sub-district, Jambi City, through a mini-workshop. The community service activity ran from September 2024 to February 2025. The mini-workshop and the establishment of the Adolescent Mother Class were held on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at the "Putri Kencana" KB Village Secretariat Post, RT 16, Sungai Putri Sub-district, Jambi City. The goal was to increase knowledge and change attitudes regarding adolescent pregnancy and its various issues, the importance of forming the class, and the eventual establishment of an Adolescent Mother Class, even a simple one. The mini-workshop was attended by 7 out of the 11 targeted adolescent mothers and was conducted for one day (3-4 hours). The materials were delivered through lectures, discussions, Q&A sessions, and experience sharing, using PowerPoint presentations displayed via a projector. A pre-test and post-test were administered before and after the mini-workshop. Following the activity, the average knowledge score increased by 1.6 points, and the attitude score increased by 5.0 points. It is concluded that the formation of the Adolescent Mother Class is highly crucial in changing the behavior (knowledge, attitude, and action) of these young mothers

Abstract

Dysmenorrhea is often known as menstrual pain or painful menstruation. The prevalence of dysmenorrhea in Indonesia reaches 98.8% in adolescents. Menstrual pain has a direct negative impact on adolescents' quality of life. Complementary therapies have been used by 15.5-79.3% of adolescents and have been proven effective in treating primary dysmenorrhea, including warm compresses, herbal remedies, mineral water, and relaxation. However, in reality, this therapy is not yet widely understood by the community, as it is still considered impractical and time-consuming to prepare. However, the benefits are safe and easily obtained, with no side effects, so education is needed. A preliminary study conducted informed that adolescent girls only experience rest or sleep while rubbing eucalyptus oil and drinking warm water for treating primary dysmenorrhea. There is a lack of information from health workers about complementary therapies, and the absence of peer counselors. The purpose of this community service is to socialize a peer counselor program regarding use of complementary therapy to treat primary dysmenorrhea. The implementation of the activity is in the form of peer counselor training. The activity was carried out on 22 female adolescents at SMAN 7 Jambi City from September 2024 to February 2025. The target output was to increase the knowledge and skills of peer counselors. Monitoring and evaluation of activities with a one group pretest and posttest design approach. The results of the community service showed an increase in knowledge of 63.6% and an increase in dysmenorrhea management skills with complementary therapies including warm compress therapy (72.7%), relaxation therapy (86.4%), and herbal therapy (63.6%). The formation of peer counselors at SMAN 7 Jambi City is expected to provide education and initial treatment for other peers or female adolescents who are experiencing primary dysmenorrhea

Abstract

Stunting remains a major public health problem in Indonesia, especially during the first 1,000 days of life. This educational intervention was conducted in Patengan Village, Bandung Regency, to strengthen the capacity of posyandu cadres in providing education on stunting, balanced nutrition, and maternal and child health. The methods applied included situational analysis, preparation of training modules, cadre training through interactive lectures, group discussions, growth monitoring simulations, and participatory observation. Evaluation was carried out using pre-test and post-test, as well as qualitative assessment through observation and interviews. The results showed a significant improvement in cadre knowledge, with the average score increasing from 70 to 83. Participants also demonstrated greater confidence and motivation in delivering health education, and expressed appreciation for visionary materials such as nutrition gardens, local food utilization, family nutrition literacy, and digital monitoring, although these have not yet been fully implemented. In conclusion, cadre education is an effective initial strategy to strengthen community capacity in preventing stunting. Investment in cadre training not only provides short-term benefits in knowledge improvement but also lays the foundation for transforming posyandu into sustainable community empowerment centers.

Abstract

Parenting is a series of activities carried out by parents continuously in a collaborative process with their children, thus supporting optimal child growth and development. In addition to nutrition, parenting styles also significantly influence child development, as they demonstrate how parents address their children's needs. Good parenting styles are closely linked to positive child development. Parenting skills are not always easy for parents to implement. Mistakes in early childhood care can be a source of problems for children's growth and development. The purpose of this activity is to improve mothers' knowledge and skills about parenting patterns in optimizing child growth and development. In this community service, the method used is based on the problems found and then providing alternative solutions, namely counseling related to understanding parenting patterns in front of the community of Pondok Hamlet, Selomartani Village, Sleman Regency. This community service activity was carried out at the toddler posyandu with the target of mothers who have toddlers totaling 17 participants accompanied by 3 mothers of posyandu cadres. The results of this community service show that the level of understanding and knowledge of parents related to parenting patterns is still sufficient as seen from the average results of the pre-test conducted before the counseling was given, namely 54.90 and after the counseling the results increased but not significantly, namely 59.21. The conclusion from this community service activity was that parenting skills are very important for the growth and development of children, so mothers of toddlers need to be given more in-depth guidance and knowledge regarding parenting patterns.

Abstract

Suku Anak Dalam (SAD) is an indigenous community living in the forests of Jambi and South Sumatra, also known as Orang Rimba, who have a unique culture and traditions that are deeply tied to nature. Their life is nomadic or what they usually call melangun. With a nomadic lifestyle, it is difficult for them to obtain sources of information or sources of knowledge, especially in the health sector. This community service aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the effectiveness of health education interventions in improving Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (PHBS) in children in the Suku Anak Dalam (SAD) community in Lantak Seribu Village, Renah Pamenang District, Merangin Regency. The population of the community service is all children aged 4-15 years in the area. This community service discusses PHBS with a focus on three main topics: Washing Hands with Soap (CTPS), Happy Nail Clipping, and dental and oral hygiene practices. The approach used through visual methods, demonstrations, direct training, educational games, and pretest-posttest evaluations is able to meet the needs in the field and is in line with the initial problems identified. The results of community service show that the experiential education method is very appropriate for SAD children, who tend to learn through visual and kinesthetic means, and this activity has a positive impact on the understanding and practice of personal hygiene, and encourages children's awareness to adopt healthy behaviors independently.

Abstract

Micronutrient deficiencies, including vitamin deficiencies, remain a significant public health challenge in rural areas of Indonesia, particularly among elementary school children. Limited dietary diversity and low nutritional literacy increase children's vulnerability to vitamin deficiencies, which may adversely affect immune function, learning concentration, and physical growth. This community service program aimed to enhance students' understanding of the importance of adequate vitamin intake and to provide vitamin supplementation as a preventive measure. The program was conducted at SDN 1 Bunigeulis, involving 58 students, and SDN Tundagan, involving 54 students, with a total of 112 participants. The activities were implemented through three stages: (1) development of educational materials on vitamins found in fruits and vegetables as well as vitamins that support immune health, (2) delivery of interactive nutrition education sessions, and (3) distribution of vitamin supplements. Educational and communicative methods were employed, utilizing visual approaches and engaging educational games tailored to elementary school students. Program effectiveness was evaluated through observations of all 112 participants. The results indicated that 91.9% of students actively participated in the educational sessions, while 77.6% were able to correctly identify the functions and dietary sources of vitamins. Furthermore, both teachers and students responded positively to the vitamin supplementation program, and no adverse effects were reported. These findings demonstrate that the program was effective in improving students’ nutritional awareness and may serve as a practical and scalable intervention model for elementary schools in rural communities.

Abstract

BPJS Kesehatan can be used to access promotive and preventive services at primary health care facilities, but its utilization is still not optimal. A situation analysis conducted in Sirnagalih Village, RT 01/RW 01, Megamendung Village, Bogor Regency, shows that residents who already have BPJS Kesehatan have not utilized promotive and preventive services at the community health center optimally. This condition has the potential to cause low utilization of primary health care services as an effort to prevent disease. The implementation of the Real Work Lecture (KKN) aims to increase the knowledge of the community of Sirnagalih Village, regarding the utilization of Community Health Center Health Services, especially preventive efforts. The activity method is in the form of observation and analysis of the field situation as a basis for compiling the KKN work program. Based on the results of the problem identification that has been done, a Health education program entitled "Healthy Friend Community Health Center: Preventing Diseases is Easier with BPJS Kesehatan" was implemented, using lectures and interactive discussions. The results of the activity showed that there was an increase in participant knowledge from an average pretest score of 70 to 78.69 in the posttests. It can be concluded that the health education program was able to increase public knowledge about how BPJS Kesehatan can be used to support disease prevention efforts. It is recommended that educational activities be carried out continuously by community health centers to increase the utilization of promotive and preventive services in the community.

Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a chronic metabolic disease with an increasing prevalence, both globally and nationally. Indonesia ranks fifth in the world with 19.5 million patients, while in Padang City there are 9,471 DM sufferers, the majority in the form of type II Diabetes Mellitus (DMT2). DM not only impacts morbidity, but also decreases the patient's quality of life. Improving self-care capabilities is an important strategy in glycemic control and prevention of long-term complications. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of self-care education on improving the knowledge of DM patients. The educational activity will be carried out in September 2025 with 30 participants aged 31–54 years. The implementation method includes the stages of preparation, counseling, and evaluation. Participants took part in the pre-test, received material presentations by two resource persons from STIKes Garuda Putih with student assistance, then took the post-test and Blood Sugar During (GDS) examination. The results showed a significant increase in respondents' knowledge, with the average pre-test score of 5.1 (SD=1.2) increasing to 8.17 (SD=1.23) at the post-test. This increase indicates that self-care education is effective in improving understanding of DM patients, even though most participants have limited basic education and access to health information. This structured education supports patients' self-care abilities, optimizes glycemic control, and has the potential to improve overall quality of life

Abstract

Personal hygiene is one of the important aspects in forming clean and healthy living behaviours that need to be instilled from an early age. Children of kindergarten age are in an early developmental phase that is crucial for forming health habits in the future. However, the limitations in understanding, concentration, and the child's ability to practice personal hygiene often become obstacles in its independent application. This community service activity aims to enhance knowledge and skills in personal hygiene among kindergarten-aged children through education and direct practice. The activity was conducted at TK Aisyiyah 26 Palembang with a total of 25 participants, consisting of 15 male students and 10 female students. The methods used included educational outreach, demonstrations of proper handwashing practices, and direct supervision involving two lecturers and two students. The results showed that all the children were able to answer questions after being educated on the importance of personal hygiene, and were able to practice personal cleanliness correctly, such as cutting nails, washing hands, and brushing teeth. Suggestion that this activity is expected to become the foundation for instilling clean and healthy living habits in the school and home environment for children regularly and consistently.
