Abstract

Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) remains a major public health concern in Indonesia, particularly in tropical regions where the incidence continues to rise. Preventive efforts are essential due to the absence of specific therapy for this disease. This community service activity aimed to improve students’ knowledge of DHF prevention and introduce the use of natural ingredients as an alternative mosquito repellent. The activity was conducted at SMPN 17 Muaro Jambi and involved 21 students through health education using PowerPoint presentations, interactive discussions, and practical training on the preparation of lemongrass-based mosquito repellent spray. The results demonstrated high enthusiasm and active participation among the students throughout the educational and training sessions. Participants engaged in discussions regarding DHF transmission, symptoms, and prevention through the 3M Plus strategy, while also taking part in the hands-on preparation of lemongrass-based mosquito repellent spray. This activity provided valuable knowledge on DHF prevention and the utilization of natural ingredients as an alternative mosquito repellent. Furthermore, the students successfully produced 25 bottles of spray, demonstrating the practical application of natural resources as a preventive measure against DHF. It is expected that this activity will increase awareness and encourage greater independence in maintaining health both at school and at home.

Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) remains a global health problem with a very high incidence rate. SITB data in 2014 showed that the coverage of TB cases in children was 67%, with a prevalence of 91.2% in East Java and 80.5% in Ponorogo Regency. An interview at SDN 2 Suren, Mlarak District, Ponorogo Regency, revealed that there had been a student infected with mycobacterium tuberculosis. The symptoms that appear in children with TB are often overlooked and tend to resemble other common illnesses, while risk factors such as poor nutritional status and oral health problems further worsen the child’s immune condition. Limited access to information in remote areas has led to suboptimal education about TB and the importance of child health. The community service team carried out an interactive educational program called Edutainment SI GALANG (Balanced Nutrition and Bright Teeth). The activity involved 60 participants, grades I to VI. Pre-test results showed 50% of participants had sufficient knowledge, and 28.3% had insufficient knowledge. This situation illustrates that before the education, most participants did not understand the causes, symptoms, or prevention of TB. Furthermore, post-test results showed a significant increase, with 85% of participants having good knowledge, 11.7% having sufficient knowledge, and only 3.3% having insufficient knowledge. This improvement indicates that children who initially had difficulty answering questions about the causes and symptoms of TB were able to correctly explain how TB is transmitted, how to prevent transmission, and the importance of maintaining personal and environmental hygiene after the activity. This demonstrates that the edutainment-based educational activity successfully increased participants' absorption of the material presented.

Abstract

Hypertension is a growing health problem in adolescents and is closely related to unhealthy lifestyle changes, such as lack of physical activity, high-salt food consumption, stress, and irregular sleep patterns. The low knowledge of adolescents about hypertension prevention is one factor that worsens this condition. This community service activity aims to improve adolescents’ knowledge about hypertension prevention from an early age. Health education with a group-based life skills improvement approach, implemented on 19 students of SMK Bina Taqwa Cisalak, Depok City. The evaluation was conducted using a pretest and posttest to measure the level of knowledge of the respondents. Most respondents had sufficient (42.1%) and poor (26.3%) knowledge before the intervention. After the intervention, knowledge increased to 89.5% in the good category, and no longer were any respondents in the poor category. Health education through group processes is effective in improving adolescents’ knowledge about hypertensive prevention. This method can be recommended as a health promotion strategy to prevent hypertension in school environments from an early age

Abstract

Low Birth Weight (LBW) is an important indicator of infant health and remains a major public health problem, particularly in developing countries. Infants with LBW are at higher risk of neonatal complications, growth and developmental delays, infections, and non-communicable diseases later in life. Therefore, LBW reflects not only maternal and child health conditions but also preconception health readiness. Prevention efforts should not be limited to pregnancy but also focus on preconception factors influencing pregnancy outcomes. This community service activity aimed to improve knowledge and preconception health readiness among prospective couples. The activity was conducted at Wagir Primary Health Center, Malang Regency, Indonesia, from January 5 to 17, 2026. The target participants were prospective brides and grooms receiving pre-marital health services. Methods included health education, individual and small-group counseling based on health screening results, and interactive discussions. Educational media consisted of leaflets, posters, and simple presentation materials. Data were collected through observation, discussion feedback, and counseling interactions, then analyzed descriptively. The results showed an increase in participants’ understanding of preconception risk factors associated with LBW, including anemia, chronic energy deficiency, obesity, and diabetes mellitus. Participants also demonstrated improved awareness of the importance of maintaining nutritional status and health before pregnancy. Pre-marital education based on individual health risk screening is effective in improving knowledge and preconception readiness among prospective couples and has the potential as a preventive strategy to reduce LBW incidence in primary health care settings.

Abstract

Pregnancy is often accompanied by lower back pain due to hormonal and biomechanical changes, which can reduce the quality of life for pregnant women. However, the lack of knowledge among pregnant women regarding the causes, prevention, and safe exercises remains a major issue in Tasikmadu Village, Malang City. This activity aims to improve the knowledge and skills of pregnant women in preventing lower back pain through education and physical therapy exercises. This activity was held on April 11, 2026, at the Tasikmadu Subdistrict Posyandu in Malang City, with 15 pregnant women participating. The methods applied included an initial screening for back pain using a questionnaire to assess pain intensity (scale 1–10), a pretest to measure participants’ baseline knowledge about the causes and prevention of lower back pain, health education using illustrated posters presented as demonstration and group exercise materials, and a posttest to evaluate knowledge improvement following the intervention. The results of the activity showed that the majority of pregnant women experienced mild to moderate back pain, and there was a significant increase in knowledge following the health education session, as evidenced by the pretest results, which indicated that 73.33% of participants were unaware of the causes of lower back pain and 80% were unaware of how to prevent it. Following the educational session, the post-test results showed a significant improvement, with 100% of participants understanding the causes of lower back pain and knowing how to prevent it. This activity had a positive impact, leading to improved understanding and awareness of the importance of posture and physical activity during pregnancy, as well as the potential for a reduction in lower back pain complaints. Thus, education and exercise are effective as promotive and preventive measures in improving the musculoskeletal health of pregnant women

Abstract

Stunting is a chronic nutritional problem that has a significant impact on children's physical growth and cognitive development. One of the main determinants of stunting is the low level of maternal knowledge regarding balanced nutrition, parenting practices, and the early detection of growth disorders. This community service program was designed to improve mothers' knowledge of child nutrition through interactive health education. The community service activity was conducted on April 29, 2025, involving 20 participants. The program included a pre-test to assess mothers' baseline knowledge, followed by health education on stunting, and concluded with a post-test to evaluate changes in knowledge after the intervention. The results of this community service activity showed an improvement in mothers' knowledge about stunting. The number of mothers with good knowledge increased from 6 participants (30%) before the intervention to 20 participants (100%) after the intervention. These findings indicate that the health education provided was effective in enhancing mothers' understanding of stunting and the importance of ensuring balanced nutrition for children

Abstract

Violent behavior is currently a complex psychosocial and neurobiological problem as well as an emergency health problem, both in the form of physical and psychological violence in real interactions and media. This condition can be detrimental to oneself, others and the environment so that real solutions are needed through non-pharmacological efforts, namely laughter therapy. This activity aims to provide education to ODGJ about to reduce stress, improve emotional control, and help patients become calmer and more cooperative. This activity was carried out for 36 people at the Mitra Mulia Husada Palembang Foundation on February 08-09, 2025, using s, SOPs for and observation sheets. The results of the evaluation of this activity showed that there was an increase in understanding and patients at risk of violent behavior were able to undergo laughter therapy. The results of observations showed that participants appeared calmer, more cooperative and appeared happy. These results prove that laughter can naturally help to stabilize emotions, reduce stress hormone levels, create feelings of calm, comfort, happiness and help them build the ability to control emotional reactions better. It is recommended that the management of the Mitra Mulia Husada Palembang Foundation implement as an alternative intervention for ODGJ to overcome violent behavior.
