Abstract

Indonesian students perform inadequately in the International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS). Before utilising National Examination (UN) questions as measures of learning accomplishment, evaluating them within the context of a theoretical framework for mathematics education is imperative. They analyse student mathematical proficiency using TIMSS and National Examination questions and apply pedagogic anthropological theory, particularly praxeology. This study employed content analysis as a qualitative research method. An algebraic analysis was conducted using the praxeological technique. This entails evaluating concerns, approaches, and technological and theoretical alternatives (logo block). The results indicate that the TIMSS questions require careful consideration and analytical thinking. In contrast, National Examination questions restrict students' cognitive capacities to acquire knowledge on specific topics. The placement of national test question types will be determined based on analytical data. Indonesian students must enhance their arithmetic scores, which consistently remain low. To promote the growth of a highly skilled labour market, the government must comprehend the intricacies involved. Teachers should customise their classes to align with the individual learning objectives of each student.

Abstract

This research uses a qualitative descriptive method to describe learning difficulties in class VIII algebra material based on gender. The research subjects comprised 1 class of class VIII junior high school students, male and female. The data collection method used a written test on algebra material, and interviews with students were conducted regarding the written test that had been carried out. The results of this research are that male students have more difficulties than female students. Male students experience difficulties expressing principles and solving problems with solutions that require determining the form of variables but do not have difficulty when expressing the concept of grouping similar terms in algebraic form. Meanwhile, female students do not experience difficulty using the principles of operating algebraic forms and finding the value of a variable but experience difficulties when presenting the concept of grouping similar terms in algebraic form and when solving problems with solutions that require determining the variable form because female students feel confused when working on it—the next step is you do not do the problem until it is finished

This research aims to analyze students' mathematical problemsolving abilities in dealing with System of Linear Inequalities in Two Variables (SLITV) material. The research method used is descriptive quantitative with data collection through written tests. The subjects of this research were class XI students at SMAN 2 Tualang, Tualang District, Siak Regency, consisting of 34 students who had studied SLITV material. The technique in this research is tests. The test contains 4 questions with easy, medium and difficult levels. Based on the results of the analysis, it shows that in question number 1, with indicators of the ability to identify elements that are known, asked about, and the adequacy of the required elements, a very good category was obtained with a cumulative percentage of 88.3%. In question number 2 with the indicator of being able to create or compile mathematical models, the category was quite good with a cumulative percentage of 58.3%. In question number 3 with the indicator of choosing and developing a problemsolving strategy, a bad category was obtained with a cumulative percentage of 5.8%. In question number 4 with the indicator of being able to explain and check the correctness of the answers obtained, students received a fairly good category with a cumulative percentage of 53.0%. This means that mathematical problemsolving abilities are good but also need to be developed further in order to achieve maximum mathematical understanding abilities, so that students better understand the basic concepts of the previous material used to solve the problems that have been given.
