Abstract

ABSTRACT The problem of this research is that Down Syndrome children at SLB YPAC Makassar are not yet able to brush their teeth appropriately and correctly independently. The formulation of the research problem is "How does the ability to brush teeth in Down Syndrome children at SLB YPAC Makassar increase after implementing the modeling method?" The aim of this research was to determine: 1) The ability to brush teeth before implementing the modeling method in class I Down Syndrome children at SLB YPAC Makassar. 2) The ability to brush teeth after applying the modeling method to class I Down Syndrome children at SLB YPAC Makassar. 3) Increasing the ability to brush teeth in Down Syndrome children at SLB YPAC Makassar through the application of modeling methods. The results of this study show that the ability to brush teeth in children with Down Syndrome level I at SB YPAC Makassar before the application of the modeling method for brushing their teeth was in the less capable category and after the application of the modeling method increased and entered the very capable category.

Abstract

AbstractChildren with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) will face several challenges in the learning process in the school environment, one of which is challenges in concentration. A crowded learning environment will  interfere with the child's focus in putting  concentration in learning. Too much stimulus in the classroom will interfere with children's focus due to overstimulation during learning. This research was conducted using a qualitative method by collecting data through interviews and observations to understand more in-depth about the benefits of setting a focused environment for children with autism spectrum disorders. The use of learning media such as graphics, images, sound, and writing can help children in  the learning process. A deeper understanding of the benefits of focal environments for children with autism spectrum disorder helps to improve children's concentration in learning. Further studies are needed to design more efficient and sustainable learning approaches for children with autism.

Abstract

This study investigates the issue concerning the availability of Braille reading instructional materials for students with visual impairments, which poses a challenge for teachers in delivering effective Braille reading instruction. The aim of this research is to identify the level of need for instructional materials in Braille reading for visually impaired students, the stages of instructional material development, as well as the validity and practicality levels of the developed materials. This study employs research and development (R&D) methodology using the 4D development model (Define, Design, Develop, and Disseminate). Data were collected through interviews, observations, and questionnaires. The data analysis techniques involved collecting data, scoring, assigning weights, and calculating percentages. The instruments used in this study include validation instruments to assess the validity of the instructional materials and trial instruments using a Likert scale questionnaire to evaluate the feasibility of the materials. The results of the prototype product development indicate that the instructional materials can be utilized in Braille reading instruction for students with visual impairments. This is supported by validation results, which fall into the valid category and qualify for trial implementation. The product trials conducted with teachers and students demonstrate that the materials are applicable in Braille learning, especially for students at the elementary level.

Abstract

Students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) have unique characteristics, including difficulties in understanding visual stimuli such as colors. On the other hand, the learning process in Special Needs Schools (SLB) still tends to be conventional and lacks the use of media that meets the sensory needs of autistic children. The lack of interactive, contextual, and technology-based learning media is one of the inhibiting factors in introducing color concepts. Therefore, this study aims to develop an Internet of Things (IoT)-based color detector as a learning aid to introduce colors to autistic students. This research aims to develop an IoT-based color detector as a color recognition tool for autistic students at SLB-C YPPLB Makassar. The research method used is Research and Development (R&D) with the 4-D development model (Define, Design, Develop, Disseminate), although this study is limited to the Development stage. The results show that the IoT-based color detector media is highly needed by both teachers and students in the color learning process. The media development process involved several stages, including needs analysis, design planning, and validation by content and media experts. The media was designed by integrating a color sensor and speaker with an IoT system to provide an interactive and engaging learning experience for students. The results of the content and media expert validations indicate that the media is fairly valid and usable, though minor revisions are required, implying the overall quality of the media is fairly good. Furthermore, responses from teachers also indicate that the media is practical and effective in helping autistic students recognize colors.
