Abstract

Current developments are also accompanied by an increase in the number of infectious diseases, especially tuberculosis (TB). Even though there has been a lot of research related to the treatment and management of TB, this has not been able to eliminate TB morbidity. Apart from treatment, preventing TB transmission and increasing community immunity are also determinants of TB morbidity rates. The Bangkingan Community Health Center's Traditional Medicine and Health Promotion Division, along with the Great Surabaya Cadre of Bangkingan Village, participated in community service projects in RW Hall 3, Bangkingan Village. Activities related to community service encompass mentoring, training, technology use, outreach, assessment, and program sustainability. The Bangkingan Village community has improved its knowledge, behavior, and proficiency in using herbs to boost immunity as a result of performing community service. creation of the Herbal Corner Web as a hub for herbal knowledge for preventative and promotional initiatives. Every RW has a herbal garden where one can grow therapeutic plants, and there is equipment available to make herbal remedies (powder/instant). The sustainability of the program depends on the motivation of the Great Surabaya Cadres of Bangkingan Village, so good cooperation between the Cadres is needed to continue the benefits of the program. Through the traditional medicine and health promotion division, it is necessary to provide assistance to the community regarding promotive and preventive efforts. Government support for community activities/programs in relation to improving health status needs to be increased.

Abstract

There are still many elderly who suffer from high blood pressure. The role of the family plays an important role in managing and controlling the blood pressure of the elderly. The aim of this community service was to determine the relationship of "CERDIK" family assistance and the blood pressure of the elderly. The design used a cross sectional, with the population being all elderly people living in RT 04 RW 06 Tlogomas, with a sample of 57 elderly people obtained through accidental sampling. The independent variable in this study is "CERDIK" family assistance, while the dependent variable is blood pressure. The instrument used a questionnaire. The data analysis used Spearman rank. The results showed that the majority of elderly people received good family assistance (52.6%); the majority of elderly people are pre-elderly (57.9%); and the results of statistical tests show that there was no relationship between CERDIK family assistance and elderly blood pressure. It is recommended that future researchers examine forms of family assistance (with family and elderly samples) which are associated with elderly people's blood pressure.

Abstract

Lack of nutrition in pregnant women can cause abortion, low birth weight (LBW), premature birth, or even stillbirth during labor. Low levels of knowledge cause mothers to not understand how to fulfill the nutritional needs of pregnant women during their pregnancy. This activity aimed to increase pregnant women's knowledge of nutrition during pregnancy. The population was 10 pregnant women in the Pregnant Women's class in Kedungbanteng village. The method of the activity was to provide education through counseling, providing leaflets, and conducting pretest and posttest evaluations. The activity was carried out on Saturday, March 22, 2024, by a service team from Stikes Ganesha Husada Kediri. The results of the study showed that education for pregnant women increased knowledge about: Healthy eating patterns for pregnant women, benefits of healthy eating patterns for pregnant women, problems related to eating patterns for pregnant women, nutritional needs for pregnant women, signs and symptoms of malnutrition in pregnant women and the impact of nutritional status on the labor process. The result showed that before education, the number of pregnant women who had good knowledge was 3 people (30%), sufficient knowledge was 2 people (20%), and poor knowledge was 5 people (50%). After the intervention, the number of pregnant women who had good knowledge was 8 people (80%), sufficient knowledge was 1 person (10%) and poor knowledge was 1 person (10%). This revealed that education through pregnancy classes needs to be carried out and evaluated routinely by the midwife in charge, so that pregnant women have broad knowledge and insight and can make the right decisions in preparing for childbirth and the baby will be born healthy and safe as well as the mother healthy and safe without complications. The cadre mother should patiently provide assistance during pregnancy and childbirth.

Abstract

Medication use in patients with chronic diseases during Ramadan is a crucial yet often overlooked public health challenge in the primary health care system in Indonesia. Non-compliance with medication regimens and inappropriate dosage adjustments during fasting can lead to serious complications and even medical emergencies, especially in patients with diabetes and hypertension. This community service activity aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of pharmaceutical counseling, accompanied by leaflets, in enhancing patients’ knowledge of medication use during fasting for chronic conditions. This quasi-experimental study was conducted at the Technical Implementing Unit of Kepanjenkidul Health Center, Blitar City, involving 18 patients diagnosed with diabetes and hypertension. The study employed a knowledge questionnaire.  The design of this study aims to analyze changes in patient knowledge related to drug use during Ramadan fasting through a structured intervention approach. The results of the activity showed a significant increase in knowledge scores, from an average of 28.33 (pre-test) to 47.11 (post-test), representing a percentage increase of 37.56% (p-value = 0.000, p = < 0.05). In conclusion, pharmaceutical counseling through brochures has shown promise as a strategy for improving patients’ understanding of medication management during Ramadan. It is recommended that health centers develop specific counseling protocols and educational materials tailored to the characteristics of patients, particularly those from low-educated and pre-elderly groups. The implementation of this counseling program needs to be integrated into routine pharmaceutical services, with a focus on preparation several weeks before Ramadan to improve medication safety and therapy fulfillment for patients who choose to fast.

Abstract

Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM) is glucose intolerance that first appears or is detected during pregnancy and can lead to various complications for both the mother and the fetus. Preventing and managing GDM can be achieved through nutrition and physical activity education. This education aimed to enhance the understanding of pregnant women so that they can adopt a healthy lifestyle to prevent GDM. This study employed an analytical approach with a cross-sectional design. The population consisted of pregnant women visiting the obstetrics and gynecology clinic. This community service activity was conducted at the Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinic of Kediri Regency Hospital (RSKK) using lecture-based counseling, interactive discussions, and the distribution of educational leaflets. Evaluation was done by comparing pregnant women's knowledge levels before and after counseling using a pre-test and post-test. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon statistical test. Among the 40 respondents who participated in the counseling before the education, it was found that 24 pregnant women (60%) had low knowledge levels, 12 pregnant women (30%) had moderate knowledge, and only 4 (10%) had good knowledge. After the counseling, a significant improvement was observed, with 35 pregnant women (88%) had good knowledge and five pregnant women (12%) had moderate knowledge. The Wilcoxon test results indicated a significant increase in knowledge after the educational intervention. This education program should be continuously implemented with the support of healthcare workers and adequate facilities to raise awareness and prevent the occurrence of GDM in pregnant women.

Abstract

Drug-resistant tuberculosis (DR-TB) or drug resistance is a condition where TB germs can no longer be killed with first-line anti-tuberculosis drugs (OAT), so they must be treated with second-line OAT (Drug-resistant TB Patient Pocket Book, 2020). Drug-resistant tuberculosis (DR-TB) is still a threat in TB control and is one of the main public health problems in many countries in the world. The data collection technique in this activity was through a questionnaire survey given before and after the presentation of the material on Assisting Drug-resistant TB Patients. The sample was 46 participants who were TB Cadres from each Sub-district throughout Kediri City. The data analysis used in this activity by measuring the correct and incorrect answers between the pre- and posttests that had been filled out by the training participants. The results of the questionnaire filled out by the activity participants showed an increase in knowledge about Assisting Drug-resistant TB Patients Since being diagnosed. The success of drug-resistant TB treatment is also inseparable from the important role of the family, health workers, and patient companions who always support patients to undergo DR-TB treatment until completion. Effective assistance will affect the success of treatment, the patient's quality of life, and reduce the risk of transmission of drug-resistant TB in the community.

Abstract

Hypertension is one of the leading causes of death in the world. Farmer groups are at risk of developing hypertension. Several contributing factors include exposure to pesticides, unhealthy lifestyles (such as lack of exercise, smoking, consumption of high-sodium foods, stress, and alcoholic beverages), and heavy work that can cause fatigue. Lifestyle modifications that are known to prevent hypertension are physical activities that are carried out regularly, such as hypertension gymnastics. The implementation of hypertension gymnastics has been carried out in the community in Pajarakan Village to help prevent hypertension using the field survey approach method and hypertension gymnastics training. A total of 26 participants participated in hypertension gymnastics which ended with the provision of hypertension gymnastics videos to representatives of the residents. Pre- and post-test screening was also carried out after 3 days of intervention to determine the decrease in blood pressure in the farmer group. The results obtained on the first, second and third days were 0.000 (<0.05), meaning that there was an effect of hypertension gymnastics on reducing blood pressure. The community is expected to be able to hold hypertension gymnastics independently and regularly.
