Abstract

This community service program was conducted in Dolok Sagala Village, Dolok Masihul District, Serdang Bedagai Regency, as part of the Community Service Program (KKN) of STIE Bina Karya Tebing Tinggi. The program focused on the theme "Product and Packaging Innovation to Attract Consumers to MSMEs in Dolok Sagala." The program's primary target was a local tempeh MSME owned by Mrs. Merry and Mr. Jumiran. Methods used included observation, interviews, and direct implementation, including designing and producing new, more attractive product packaging, as well as promotional media such as stickers and banners. The results demonstrated the creation of new packaging aimed at increasing sales value, attractiveness, and consumer trust. In addition to the main MSME program, supporting activities were also implemented, such as anti-bullying outreach in elementary schools and the installation of educational signs on waste management. These activities successfully provided new insights for MSMEs regarding the importance of branding and packaging in increasing product competitiveness.

Abstract

Fabric scraps are a type of textile waste whose volume continues to increase along with the development of the fashion industry and the garment industry. The utilization of fabric scraps into useful and economically valuable products is still not optimal, including among students who have entrepreneurial knowledge but lack the practical skills to produce business products. This community service activity aims to improve students' creativity and entrepreneurial skills through training in utilizing fabric scraps into scrunchies. The activity was held on May 12, 2026, in the Muhammadiyah Asahan University Hall, involving 44 members of the Entrepreneurship UKM consisting of students from the Management Study Program and the Accounting Study Program. The methods used included socialization, demonstrations, direct practice, and evaluation. The results of the activity showed that the participants had high enthusiasm during the training. All participants were able to follow the scrunchie-making process and successfully produced products independently from the provided fabric scraps. In addition to improving technical skills in product manufacturing, the training also increased participants' understanding of textile waste management and business opportunities that can be developed from recycled products. The resulting scrunchie products have utility value, aesthetic value, and economic potential, making them an alternative for environmentally-based creative businesses. This activity successfully increased students' creativity and entrepreneurial skills while supporting efforts to reduce textile waste by reusing leftover materials into more valuable products.

Abstract

Digital marketing skills are an important competency for aspiring entrepreneurs in the digital economy. Members of the Entrepreneurship Student Activity Unit (UKM) at Muhammadiyah Asahan University had previously received training on utilizing waste fabric scraps to create economically valuable scrunchies, but still faced limitations in marketing their products. This community service activity aims to improve students' entrepreneurial competencies through digital marketing training for scrunchie products made from waste fabric scraps. The activity was held on May 12, 2026, in the Muhammadiyah Asahan University Hall, involving 44 sixth-semester students from the Management Study Program and the Accounting Study Program who are members of the Entrepreneurship Student Activity Unit. The methods used included socialization, demonstrations, practice, and evaluation. The material provided covered digital marketing concepts, the use of social media and marketplaces, product photography techniques, digital catalog preparation, promotional content creation, and branding strategies. The results of the activity showed that all participants followed the training well and were able to create digital marketing accounts, produce more attractive product photos, compose product descriptions, and create simple promotional content ready for publication on social media. This training successfully improved participants' understanding and skills in utilizing digital technology as a means of product marketing. Thus, this activity contributes to improving students' entrepreneurial competencies while expanding marketing opportunities for scrunchie products made from waste fabric as a sustainable creative business.
