Abstract

Bad breath is usually caused by bacteria and leftovers in the mouth. Utilization of natural ingredients that can be used to overcome the problem of bad breath one of them by using basil leaves (Ocimum americanum L.), which has activity as an antibacterial. The development of the preparations was done on basil leaves to overcome bad breath is by formulating the basil leaves ethanol extract into the Orally Disintegrating Tablet (ODT) preparation. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of explotab® concentration variations on the physical properties of ODT and to determine the best of concentrations of Explotab® that fulfill the physical properties of ODT. The type of research conducted was an experimental study. Research object was basil leaves ethanol extract formulated into ODT with Explotab® 2% w/b, 4% w/w, 6% w/b and 8% w/w variation. Physical evaluations test then conducted including : the uniformity of weight evaluation, the hardness test, the friability test, and the dissolved time. The results showed that the explotab® concentration variations had an effect on the physical properties of tablets and the formula with the Explotab® 8% b/b concentration was the best formula that could produce the best ODT tablet with physical properties. Abstract

The study about the effect of brief counseling on quality of life of diabetes mellitus patients were conducted at RSUD Dr. H. Moch. Ansari Saleh Banjarmasin. This study using a randomized controlled trial design. Subjects who met the inclusion criteria were 156 patients randomly into two groups, 78 patients who received the intervention and 78 patients did not receive the intervention. Exclusion criteria were pregnancy patients, deaf, illiterate and uncooperative. The data collected by questionnaires Euro-Qol EQ-5D. The quality of life data were analyzed by multivariate statistic test. The result showed that the quality of life scores in the control group and the intervention group were both significantly increased with p <0.05. Multivariate analysis both group at pre and median study were significant different, while at the post study was not significant different. There were improving quality of life of patients with diabetes mellitus who received the brief counseling is greater than patients who did not receive the intervention

Abstract

Tuberculosis is an infectious disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis, which mostly (80%) attacks the lungs. Tuberculosis is one of the diseases that attacks people with the relatively high percentage and can effect in death. This study aims to determine how the use of anti-tuberculosis drugs in TB patients cause bad side effects and how the treatment of the side effect.The method of this research is descriptive with cross sectional study design. The sampling techniques are Retrospective and Prospective research. The data tabulation taken by distributed questionnaires and interviews to the TB patients and health worker. The data was collected at the Perumnas public health center of Kendari, which was 21 patients who were undergoing treatment stage and also had fulfilled the inclusion criteria that have been determined. The results showed that 21 tuberculosis patients at the Perumnas public health center of Kendari experienced the side-effects such as nausea and vomiting, hematuria, loss of appetite, fever, joint, itch, and skin redness. The most common side effects were queasy and hematuria with the same percentage of 71,5%. The treatment of side effects done by giving the drugs information and providing the drug therapy in agree with the complaints. Keywords : Tuberculosis, Side-effects, Anti-Tuberculosis

Abstract

Apium graveolens Linn and Polyscias scutellaria (Burm.f.) leaves are empirically widely used to stimulate hair growth. The purpose of this research is to combine celery leaf extract and mangkokan leaf extract formulated in hair tonic. The hair tonic preparations made were evaluated by performing a physical test of the preparation and knowing the best concentration of celery leaf extract and mangkokan leaf extract on rabbit hair growth. The hair tonic were prepared in 3 formulations with the ratio of Celery leaf extract and mangkokan leaf extract (5:5 ; 7,5:2,5 and 2.5:7,5)% w / v. The positive control used is hair tonic Minoxidil 2%. Physical tests of the preparation include organoleptic test, pH and viscosity test. Hair growth activity test is done by applying hair tonic on the 3 rabbits shaved hair and hair growth measurements until the 21st day. The data of hair growth measurements were tested statistically by ANOVA test method. Based on the research result, it can be concluded that hair tonic combination of celery leaf extract and mangkokan leaf extract with ratio (7.5: 2,5)%, has average hair length 2,459 cm and hair weight 0,199 g is the optimum concentration in stimulating hair growth activity with positive control has average hair length 2,493 cm and hair weight 0,285 g. Abstract

Foods or food ingredients that contain high water content are not durable to store. This trigger manufacturers of small industries and home industries to use additional ingredients such as preservatives. Banned preservatives used in food are formalin. Identification of formaldehyde can be done by color reaction, among others, using Schryver reagent. This study aims to determine the identification of formalin content in wet noodles using Schryver reagent. This research is a type of experimental research. Sample in this research is chicken noodle and meatball noodle which is obtained from seller at Abdul Wahab Syahranie Street. The research stages include sample collection, Schryver reagent manufacture, spike sample preparation and sample testing. Data analysis used in this research use descriptive analysis method. The results of six samples of chicken noodle and meatball noodles located at Abdul Wahab Syahranie Street, that from six samples did not contain formalin. Abstract

Rambai laut (Sonneratia caseolaris L. Engl) is one of the typical plants of Borneo that the leaves are empirically used by the community as a medicinal plant. Compounds from plants can be obtained by extraction. The yield rendement on the extraction process can be influenced by several factors, one of which is the method of extraction. This study aims to determine the effect of extraction methods and the amount of yield produced on rambai laut extracts. The research design is experimental with descriptive analysis. Rambai laut which has become powder then in extraction by using maseration method, infundation method, reflux method and soxhletasi method. The result of rendement is then analyzed using statistic. Soxhletasi method yield average value of rendemen that is equal to 28,38%, reflux equal to 25,57%, maseration equal to 21,28% and infundasi with average value of rendemen that is equal to 17,20%. The soxhletation method yields the highest average yield value and infundation with the lowest average yield value. The result of staitistic test shows that the extraction method has an effect on each rendement with p value = 0,024 <α = 0,05. Keywords : Sonneratia caseolaris, extraction method, rendement

Abstract

ABSTRACT Treatment of respiratory disorders using a metered-dose inhaler (MDI) with spacer becomes one of the important points. Pharmacists at pharmacies are the final key in therapy to ascertain how the use of inhalation tools is correct. This study aims to determine the completeness of each step of information on how to use MDI with spacer given by pharmacists at pharmacies in East Surabaya. The research design used is cross-sectional study with the subject of research is pharmacist in pharmacy. The research variable is the explanation of how to use MDI inhaler with spacer. An assessment method of 8 steps on how to use MDI with spacer and each number gets a value. Research subjects were 22 pharmacists. Most pharmacists describe each step orally by using the tool directly, ie at step: 1a (77.27%), 1b (77.27%), 2 (81.81%), 3 (31.81%) , 4a (59.09%), 4b (13.63%), 5a (100%), 5b (63.63%), 6a (90.90%), 6b (40.90%), 8a (9 , 09%), and 8b (9.09%). Most of the pharmacists explain verbally with a demonstration tool but only one pharmacist can explain all the steps completely. Therefore, pharmacists need to improve IEC services related to the use of MDI with a spacer for respiratory treatment. Abstract

Diabetes is one of the most common diseases in the world. So there is an effort to prevent or treat the disease. As brown algae (Sargassum sp.) Contains polysaccharides that regulate sugar intake in the body, and polyphenols act as antioxidants that can stimulate insulin secretion in pancreatic β cells. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of Antidiabetes Polysaccharide Extract and Brown Algae Polifenol Compounds (Sargassum sp) On Alloxaninduced Mice. The test animals were grouped into 4 groups I (CMC 1%), Group II (Glibenclamide 0.52mg / 20grBB), Group III (5mg / 20grBB polyphenol extract), Group IV (5mg / 20grBB polysaccharide extract). Blood glucose was measured using Easy touch glucometer on days 0, 3, 7, 14, 21, and 28. Analyze data using one-way ANOVA, followed by LSD test. The percentage decrease in blood glucose level in positive control, polyphenol extract and polysaccharide were 42,86%, 58,12%, and 54,20%. Statistically, the polyphenolic extract and the brown algae polysaccharide lower the blood glucose level significantly compared with the negative control (p≤0,05). Decreased blood glucose in polyphenol extracts and polysaccharides showed statistically significant differences

Abstract

Tiwai Onion (Eleutherine bulbosa (Mill.) Urb.) is an Iridaceae tribe which is a typical plant of Borneo. Its used by the Dayak community, among others, for colon cancer, breast cancer, diabetes mellitus, hypertension, lowering cholesterol, strokes, boils, anti-bleeding and abdominal pain. The purpose of this study was to determine the components of anticancer compounds of chloroform fraction by GC-MS method. The results of GC-MS spectrum analysis based on the base peak equation of the chloroform fraction contain 9,12-Octadecadienoic Acid, and 1- (2,3,5,6-Tetramethyl phenyl) Ethanone which has the potential as an anticancer.

Abstract

Activated carbon is defined as carbon that has a great absorptive capacity of anions, cations, and molecules in the form of organic and inorganic compounds, either in the form of solutions or gases. Activated carbon has been highly used for various things, mainly to absorb dirt or toxins. The pores formed on this activated carbon will bind the impurities on the tooth surface. Therefore, cleaning the yellowish substances on the teeth will be easier. The aim of this research is to make dentifrice formulation with variety of activated carbon concentrate as the active substance and Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO) as the basis to get best tooth paste formula, or to meet toothpaste quality requirement.The concentrate of activated carbon used was12.5%, 15%, 17.5%, 20% and the Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO) concentrate used was 10%, 12.5%, 15%, 17.5% , 20%. Other additives that were also used were calcium carbonate, sorbitol, glycerol, Na.CMC, saccharin, sodium benzoate, sodium lauryl sulphate, menthol and aquades. The result of research indicated that the nifty basis of VCO was F3 with 15% VCO concentrate and 15% of F1 activated carbon toothpaste formula, which fulfilled toothpaste quality requirement. This formula was used to test gray organoleptic test, delicate texture, and homogeneous. It also had a pH of 8 which was corresponding to the pH value requirement for dentifrice preparations according to SNI 12-3524-1995 ie 4.5 -10.5 and typical menthol odor and fresh taste. The toothpaste does not contain of air bubbles, separated lumps and particles, and foreign objects are not visible.
