Abstract

This research aimed to reveal the rhetorical structures (Moves) of the thesis introduction sections written by a group of students at English as a Foreign Language (EFL) Education Department and if the thesis introduction sections written by the students are in line with the standard model. This research employed a qualitative study and the subject of the research were all student theses with the relative score A (86-100) assessed based on the thesis defense examination during the Academic Year of 2020/2021 in Even Semester. The number of theses selected was six (6) introduction section texts coded as follows: T1, T2, T3, T4, T5, and T6. The analysis was done manually and by referring to the revised CARS model by Swales (2004 cited in Pashapour et al., 2018). The steps constructed in the students’ thesis introduction were highlighted and classified into the Move based on the communicative purposes realized. The results of data analysis revealed that the lowest occurrence of steps constructed by the text samples in Move2 and a relatively higher proportion of steps found in Move1 and Move3 indicated that the thesis introduction sections written by students are misguided and unstructured. Although the text samples selected were confirmed as the most outstanding thesis performance with the A (86-100) score, this finding showed that the students have a lack of knowledge and familiarity with the generic structure of the thesis introduction section. Therefore, several points related to the teaching of academic writing (literacy) and the handling of thesis supervision should be recommended to an institution for better students’ performance in completing their thesesKeywords: Academic writing, genre analysis, a structural move analysis, the thesis introduction section.

Abstract

The Acehnese in Indonesia from Pidie district are fond and proud of their traditional sport or martial art called Geudeu-geudeu. Thus, there are some concerns by these Acehnese to perform the martial art in competitions since there are dangerous moves that do not have clear regulations on their conducts. Based on this problem, this study proposes some modifications on the regulations in performing Geudeu-geudeu. This is deemed important to encourage the people to perform and preserve this traditional sport. A number of ten Geudeu-geudeu coaches were interviewed to collect data. The results of the interviews revealed that there are 11 indicators and 92 items from the modification variables of Geudeu-geudeu regulations which include the game field, rounds, players and weight of players, age, equipment, form of moves, general rules, restrictions, scoring, violations, penalty, jury, referee and judge. Regarding the modification of Geudeu-geudeu regulations, 62.23% of the participants strongly agreed to it, 34.24% chose to agree, 3.26% chose to disagree and 0.27% strongly disagreed. Hence, it can be concluded that more than half of the participants support the modification of Geudue-Geudeu regulations to make this traditional sport more accessible and maintained by the Acehnese by performing them in competitions or traditional ceremonies. Keywords: modification, regulations, geudeu-geudeu, martial art, traditional sport.

Abstract

This qualitative research aimed to discover the benefits and constraints of Blended Learning faced by English as a Foreign Language (EFL) teachers in teaching English. In total, 65 pieces of studies were analyzed by using tables and charts which are categorized based on the content of the research reports. Both quantitative and qualitative analysis were employed to analyze the data. Then, the data were computerized and processed using Microsoft Excel to see the distribution of each classification. There were fourteen tables of Paper Classification Form (PCF) classified in this study. The result shows that the Blended Learning (BL) model lists numerous advantages for both teachers and students. Moreover, the benefits of BL were categorized in terms of benefits for students, teachers, and pedagogy. However, there were few articles that described the constraints faced by the teachers and students during the implementation of BL such as the limitation of Internet access, the requirement of creative activities, and the problems with the students who have low motivation in learning. Keywords: Blended Learning models, English language teaching, research reports

Abstract

The Aceh region became a battleground in the Dutch-Indonesian Revolutionary War of Independence, which lasted from 1945 to 1949. Bireuen, as one of Aceh's cities, became the core of the fight to stop the Dutch invasion of Indonesia. This research looks at the function of Bireuen, which has taken the jargon of "Kota Juang". The reference technique in this study is historical research utilizing a qualitative approach. The data was also gathered through a literature review, which included books, journals, and document reviews, as well as field observations, which included memoirs written by the offenders and historical witnesses in the occurrence. Bireuen has three primary functions following the completion of the study. First, the city of Bireuen served as the focal point for the military defensive equipment for the battle, which was gained as a result of the Japanese armory's spoils of war. The existence of the TNI Headquarters Division X in Bireuen as a command center for attacks against the Dutch in the Medan Area is the second reason. Three, the role of Radio Rimba Raya in international debunking of Dutch propaganda. This radio program begins by stating that Indonesia is an independent country and that Aceh is a part of the Republic of Indonesia's Unitary State. The Dutch recognized Indonesia's sovereignty as an independent country after three main roles and several supporting parts in the Indonesian Independence Revolution in Bireuen. On this premise, Bireuen is deserving of the nickname of "City of Fighting for the Independence Revolution".Keywords: Juang City, Independence Revolution, Independence Revolutionary War.

Abstract

The Industrial Revolution 4.0 leads to innovation in all aspects including education. In this era, teachers need to adapt to change by using technological advances to support teachers' innovation. This study analyzed that innovative learning strategy through cyber technology improves teacher performance innovation in the era of Industrial Revolution 4.0. However, the application of innovative learning strategies through cyber technology for students will not be successfully applied in learning without the support or guidance of the teacher. The teacher's role as a mentor cannot be replaced by cyber technology. Therefore, Blended Learning is the most appropriate model in implementing innovative learning strategies in the era of Industrial Revolution 4.0. It is a combination or integration of cyber technology and teacher as adviser or motivator. Blended Learning is an interesting learning system that motivates students in learning that focuses on creativity and student participation. While, contributions from all parties are needed to prepare teachers as human capital who are ready to adapt the industrial revolution 4.0 through various education or training programs. Keywords: Innovation Performance, Innovative Learning Strategy, Blended Learning,Teacher Competence
