Abstract

This study examines inheritance distribution patterns among the communities along the Musi River in South Sumatra, who are known for adhering to customary law systems with patrilineal and majorat patterns. However, variations in inheritance practices that do not always align with customary traditions have been observed. Using a phenomenological approach and rational choice theory analysis, this study identifies inheritance distribution patterns and the factors influencing community preferences. The findings reveal three main patterns: (1) pure customary patterns that prioritize paternal lineage and male heirs, (2) compromise patterns combining customary law with Islamic law or family agreements, and (3) individualistic patterns based on personal agreements among heirs without reference to specific legal systems. Factors influencing these preferences include emotional closeness between heirs and inheritors, economic considerations to preserve family assets, and principles of mutualism in maintaining social relationships. This study provides insights into the dynamics of customary law adaptation amid social and economic changes in the Musi River communities

This qualitative approach research uses descriptive research. Interpretation and analysis of research data comes from the content of the documentary film "Yang Diperas Cuciannya, Bukan PRT-nya" and is supported by a literature review. The literature review shows that previous research discusses several things including ideas, the historical context of feminism globally and in Indonesia, and gender inequality in various fields of life. Abstract

This study aims to analyze the impact of horizontal communication and organizational culture on employee performance at Rocky Plaza Hotel Padang. In the hospitality industry, effective communication among employees and a supportive organizational culture are crucial to improving employee performance, which in turn affects service quality and guest satisfaction. This research uses a quantitative approach with a sample of 100 employees, selected through stratified random sampling. Data was collected via questionnaires and analyzed using linear regression and hypothesis testing. The results indicate that both horizontal communication (X1) and organizational culture (X2) have a positive and significant effect on employee performance (Y), with p-values of 0.000 for each, which is less than 0.05. These findings suggest that smooth communication among employees and the implementation of a supportive organizational culture can enhance both individual and overall organizational performance. The practical implication of this study is the importance of strengthening internal communication and fostering a positive organizational culture to improve productivity and service quality in the hospitality sector.

Abstract

This study examines the community's reliance on mangrove forests, particularly through the establishment of charcoal kiln businesses as a primary livelihood in Batu Ampar Village, following the decline of sawmill operations. The production of charcoal requires large quantities of mangrove wood, leading to significant environmental impacts, including the reduction of mangrove forests, increased carbon emissions, and deteriorating public health. In response to these challenges, social movements among mangrove honey farming groups have emerged, focusing on ecological revitalization efforts. This research aims to explore the role of social movement strengthening through mentoring by PKM-KI students from the Sharia Economics Master's program, specifically in the development of digital platform-based marketing strategies for mangrove honey businesses. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, the study analyzes field data to evaluate the effectiveness of digital marketing in promoting mangrove honey as an alternative livelihood. The results highlight the potential of digital platforms in expanding the market for local mangrove honey products, offering a sustainable livelihood for the community while supporting environmental conservation.

Abstract

This study examines the prohibition of marriage during the month of Apit, corresponding to the Islamic month of Dzulqa'dah, which is a prevalent belief among the Javanese community, including in Jamblang Village, Cirebon Regency. The research aims to analyze the impact of this tradition on societal behavior and its implementation within the community. Employing a qualitative field research approach, the study utilized structured interviews with two respondents and document analysis to collect data. The research is descriptive in nature, focusing on presenting an in-depth understanding of the tradition. Findings reveal that the prohibition of marriage during the month of Apit, when analyzed from the perspective of Islamic jurisprudence ('urf), is categorized as 'urf fasid (a corrupt custom), as it instills a sense of fear among the community when performing marriages in this period. Theoretically, this research contributes to understanding the intersection of local traditions and Islamic legal principles, emphasizing the need to evaluate customary practices against Islamic jurisprudential frameworks.

Abstract

This study examines the role of inclusive persuasive communication in influencing mindsets, viewpoints, and attitudes to improve. The high prevalence of mental health disorders dominated by Generation Z is caused by an environment full of stigma and discrimination. This research uses qualitative methods by referring to Hovland's Persuasive Communication to influence, change, and regulate the attitudes and behaviours of people with stigma. Inclusive Persuasive Strategy, chosen to find out how to design effective messages that are able to evoke emotions, empathy, and motivation for positive change based on Aristotle's Rhetoric to package information according to aspects that facilitate persuasion. Communication Accommodation Theory was chosen to look at the situations and conditions of individuals with mental health disorders when making adjustments as part of their efforts to deal with unfavourable situations. The results showed that individuals with mental health disorders focus on consuming information that is clear and relevant to their needs as a means of validating their feelings, emotions and conditions. When there is relevance to the individual's needs at that time, changes in attitude and behaviours will certainly occur. In accordance with the strategy and form of an inclusive approach, patterns of behaviours and emotional changes that occur need to be channelled and validated, where channelling and validating these emotions is characterized by recognition of the diversity of experiences and feelings.

Abstract

The Aceh customary courts play a pivotal role in resolving societal conflicts, particularly those not addressed by the formal justice system. The formal system often remains inaccessible due to remote locations, high costs, and the complexities of judicial administration, posing significant challenges for communities, especially in Kota Lhokseumawe. This study examines two key issues: the authority of gampong customary courts in addressing customary criminal cases and the resolution models employed by these courts to reduce such cases in Kota Lhokseumawe. Using a descriptive qualitative method based on field research with a normative-empirical juridical approach, this study reveals that the authority of gampong customary courts represents a form of local wisdom that remains highly relevant in Indonesia, particularly in regions with strong customary traditions like Kota Lhokseumawe. This authority is confined to 18 types of cases as stipulated in Article 13 of Aceh Qanun No. 9 of 2008 on the Development of Customary Life and Customs and Aceh Governor Regulation No. 60 of 2013 on the Settlement of Customary Disputes. Through deliberation (musyawarah) and consensus (mufakat), these courts effectively restore social harmony and resolve conflicts peacefully. However, challenges such as the formalization and documentation of customary decisions, training for customary leaders in formal legal procedures, and the inconsistent application of customary law persist. Addressing these challenges is essential to ensure that customary courts continue to contribute to maintaining social order and justice at the local level.

Abstract

This article discusses the influence of Sufism on Indonesian music and its role in the spread of Islam within Indonesian society. Initially, Indonesia was primarily associated with traditional religions like Buddhism and Hinduism until Sufism, introduced by Yemeni traders, helped facilitate the acceptance of Islam. Sufism and Islam became intertwined, significantly shaping Indonesian identity. Key figures, such as the Nine Saints, propagated Islamic values through various means, including music, which serves as a universal art form transcending sects. This integration led to a significant transformation in Indonesian music, incorporating Islamic themes that resonate during religious occasions like Eid and Ramadan. The current research aims to further explore the specific impact of Sufism on Indonesian music, using a combination of deductive and analytical methods, differing from the previous studies' methodologies. This comprehensive approach seeks to elucidate the nuanced relationship between Sufism and the musical landscape in Indonesia.
