Scope Journal of Social and Community Development (JSCD) is an open-access journal that invites contributions that explore, analyze, and advance practices, theories, and policies of community service facilitation. Key areas of focus include but are not limited to community development and engagement strategies, public health and social services, education and literacy programs, economic development and employment services, environmental sustainability initiatives, housing and urban planning, rural development and agricultural services, disaster preparedness and response, technology and innovation in community services, policy analysis and advocacy, volunteerism, and nonprofit sector contributions, cross-sector partnerships and collaborations.

Abstract

Bullying adalah pola perilaku agresif, anak-anak yang paling rentan menghadapi risiko lebih tinggi diintimidasi. Sekolah Dasar Gereja Masehi Injil Halmahera (GMIH) terletak di Desa Daeo, Kecamatan Morotai Selatan. Sebagai sekolah dibawah Kementrian Agama yang berada pada lingkungan mayoritas muslim tidak membuat para warga sekolah terasingkan sebab sekolah tersebut memiliki guru-guru beragama Islam dan menerima siswa beragama Islam. Edukasi bullying tepat dilakukan pada anak-anak dari masyarakat yang terpinggirkan, anak-anak dengan identitas gender yang berbeda, kriteria inilah yang membuat kami untuk tergerak membuat kegiatan sosialisasi tentang bullying  agar kerukunan hidup beragama tetap terjaga. Metode pelaksanaanya adalah dengan sosialisasi dan bermain game untuk melatih kekompakkan antar tim. Hasil kegiatan memberikan pemahaman tentang bullying atau perundungan, dampak bagi teman, dan menghargai perbedaan. Kepala sekolah dan guru-guru juga sangat antusias dan menerima kami dengan sangat baik, mereka berharap kegiatan seperti ini tidak hanya sekali tetapi berulang.

Abstract

Implementasi Kurikulum Merdeka di satuan pendidikan menuntut peningkatan kompetensi pendidik dalam menyusun asesmen secara mandiri, khususnya asesmen sumatif. Namun, fakta menunjukkan bahwa sebagian guru masih mengalami kendala dalam menyusun soal yang sesuai dengan karakteristik Kurikulum Merdeka. Kegiatan Program Pemberdayaan Umat (Prodamat) oleh mahasiswa Magister Manajemen Pendidikan Universitas Ahmad Dahlan Yogyakarta bertujuan untuk memberikan pelatihan kepada guru dalam menyusun soal asesmen sumatif yang efektif dan sesuai dengan kaidah yang berlaku. Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan dalam bentuk webinar nasional yang diikuti oleh 159 peserta dari berbagai daerah di Indonesia. Evaluasi pelaksanaan menunjukkan bahwa kegiatan ini memperoleh respons yang sangat positif dari peserta. Meskipun tim pelaksana menghadapi keterbatasan pengalaman dalam menyelenggarakan kegiatan daring, upaya koordinasi yang baik menjadikan kegiatan berjalan lancar. Hasil ini menunjukkan pentingnya penguatan kapasitas guru dalam penulisan asesmen serta peningkatan keterampilan digital penyelenggara kegiatan pelatihan daring.

Abstract

Pengelolaan limbah anorganik, khususnya sampah plastik dan oli bekas, masih menjadi tantangan serius yang berdampak terhadap pencemaran lingkungan. Di SMKN 1 Kepil, akumulasi sampah plastik dari aktivitas peserta didik dan oli bekas dari praktik bengkel otomotif belum ditangani secara optimal. Program pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan dan mensosialisasikan teknologi kompor pembakar sampah berbahan bakar oli bekas sebagai solusi pengelolaan limbah yang ramah lingkungan dan edukatif. Metode pelaksanaan meliputi survei awal, perancangan dan perakitan kompor, serta uji coba pembakaran sampah basah dan anorganik. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa kompor dengan bahan bakar oli bekas sebanyak 0,8 liter mampu membakar sampah secara efisien selama 30 menit dengan bantuan blower. Inovasi ini tidak hanya efektif secara teknis dan ekonomis, tetapi juga meningkatkan kesadaran lingkungan dan keterampilan teknis peserta didik.

Abstract

Program Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk mengintegrasikan Sasirangan, kain tradisional khas Kalimantan Selatan, ke dalam gerakan sustainable fashion melalui serangkaian workshop dan pelatihan bagi pengrajin di Banjarmasin. Modul kegiatan meliputi pelatihan teknik pewarnaan ramah lingkungan, pemanfaatan bahan baku lokal, serta pendampingan dalam inovasi desain dan pemasaran. Metode pelaksanaan mencakup sosialisasi materi oleh narasumber ahli, praktik langsung di sentra produksi, dan pendampingan intensif oleh tim Dekranasda Banjarmasin bersama akademisi. Hasil yang diperoleh antara lain peningkatan keterampilan pengrajin dalam menggunakan pewarna alami, penurunan limbah cair, perluasan jaringan pemasaran produk Sasirangan, serta peningkatan kesadaran masyarakat terhadap nilai budaya dan lingkungan. Program ini diharapkan menjadi fondasi kolaboratif antara pengrajin, pembina, dan pemangku kepentingan lainnya untuk mewujudkan keberlanjutan ekonomi, sosial, dan budaya.

Abstract

This study explores the role of community engagement in mental health advocacy, focusing on academically driven initiatives conducted by Ratna Yunita Setiyani Subardjo in Malaysia. Utilizing a qualitative descriptive method, the research draws on institutional reports and participatory observations, framed by community psychology and participatory action research (PAR). Key activities included mental health campaigns, psychological counseling, educational outreach, and capacity building, all implemented in collaboration with institutions such as Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia and Universitas Aisyiyah Yogyakarta. The interventions addressed student mental health through culturally sensitive, bilingual services and peer support models. Findings indicate that academic institutions can serve as powerful agents of social transformation when their members actively engage in community well-being. These initiatives significantly contributed to emotional resilience, stigma reduction, and inclusive mental health literacy. This case highlights the potential of cross-cultural academic partnerships in promoting sustainable and human-centered mental health practices.

Abstract

This study explores the lives of street-selling children in Dili, Timor-Leste, who support their families through informal economic activities. Using a qualitative library-based research approach, the study highlights their dual roles as sources of family income and children with dreams and emotional needs. These children often work under harsh conditions and face social stigma. Only 40% of them have access to formal education. Despite this, they express strong educational aspirations, better livelihoods, and social recognition. The article emphasizes the urgency of inclusive educational policies, child protection laws, and government and civil society collaborative efforts to ensure a supportive environment for these vulnerable children. This research contributes to understanding the intersection of child labor, education access, and child welfare in post-conflict developing countries.

Abstract

Children and adolescents aged 6 to 15 years are a vulnerable age group prone to injuries due to high curiosity and limited awareness or response to hazards. Data indicate that approximately 42.56% of middle school students experience injuries, ranging from minor to severe. The most common types of injuries include falls, sprains, puncture wounds, lacerations, fractures, bruises, foreign body intrusion, and traffic accidents. The most frequent injury sites are the lower limbs (67.9%), followed by the upper limbs (32.7%) and the head (11.9%). This community service program was designed to equip middle school students at Ekkapap International School, Krabi, Thailand, with essential first aid knowledge for everyday injuries. The theme was selected to provide basic health literacy through practical, interactive, and engaging approaches. The methods included wound illustration, hands-on activities such as wound cleaning, dressing with gauze, applying adhesive bandages, and simulation and role-play as first responders in emergencies. The results demonstrated a significant improvement in the knowledge of 40 participating students. The average pre-test score was 61, which markedly increased to 93 in the post-test. Statistical analysis confirmed a highly significant difference between pre- and post-intervention scores. Visual and hands-on methods proved highly effective, even in a cross-cultural context, highlighting that empathy and the willingness to help are universal values.

Abstract

In recent years, social justice has become a central theme in global debates on equality, human rights, development, and political reform. Yet, much of this discourse remains shaped by Western frameworks, with limited scholarship engaging African perspectives on what constitutes a just society – and even less examining how African states themselves operationalize justice in pursuit of national development and peace. This paper contributes to filling that gap through a qualitative, multi-method study of Eritrea, where social justice is conceived not only as a moral imperative but also as a practical foundation for sustainable development, national cohesion, and long-term peace. The analysis traces the roots and manifestations of Eritrea’s approach, highlighting achievements in areas such as gender equality, social protection, and inclusive development, while also acknowledging persistent structural challenges. Eritrea’s pursuit of social justice is substantive, yet progress remains uneven and contingent on overcoming resource constraints, entrenched norms, and institutional limitations. Ultimately, Eritrea’s experience provides valuable insights for broader debates on social justice in low-income and post-conflict contexts, illustrating both the possibilities of state-led progress and the enduring obstacles to transformative change.
