Abstract

Yoghurt is a fermented food product produced worldwide using co-cultures of two species of lactic acid bacteria; streptococcus thermophilus and Lactobacillus bulgaricus. Study was carried out to evaluate the quality in chemical and sensory characteristics of plain yoghurt produced from sweet corn-soybean milk mixing during 15 days refrigerated storage. The reduction in pH can be due to breakdown of lactose into lactic acid. The lag time for the pH decrease during storage reflected the acidification rate of the culture involved. Yoghurt quality is therefore affected due to microbial growth. The pH value was 4 - 4,15. Organoleptic examination showed that yoghurt produced from sweet corn-soybean milk mixing in t ; l formulation had the highest acceptable degree in color, flavor, taste and consistency. The most favored yoghurt was then observed for its nutrient contents consisting water, ash, fat, protein, fiber, totat sucrose, vitamin C, vitamin A, and minerals. The water content of yoghurt was lower than soyghurt, meaning yoghurt had higher total solids, indicating that it was more nutritious than soyghurt. The fat content in the corn-soybean milk mix yoghurt was 0.44 I o%, therefore suitable in supporting diet programs. The results showed that Na content of the sweet corn-soybean milk mixing yoghurt was I146,54 ppm and Fe content was 10,075 ppm.

Abstract

The research aimed to determine the effect of carp fish meat usage on the texture and the taste of beef meatballs. Completely Randomized Design was used on the research with five treatments i.e. T0: 100% beef meat + 0% carp fish meat; T1 :87.5% beef meat + 12.5% carp fish meat; T2:75% beef meat + 25o% carp fish meat; T3 : 62.5% beef meat + 37.5% carp fish meat and T4 : 50% beef meat + 50'% carp fish meat. Each treatment was assessed by 25 panelists with Scoring Test based on the texture, flavor and taste of the meatballs. The analysis had been done through organoleptic analysis, including Difference Test and Preference Test toward texture, flavor and taste. Obtained data were then processed with Analysis of Variance (A^/OVA) Tukey procedure (Honestly Significant Difference) was used to find out the significance of differences among treatments on the level of D.'0.05. The results were.'(1) More than 12.5 %, Carp fish meat usage in the meatball dough affected the texture, but up to 37.5% of carp fish addition to the meatball mixture was still favorable to the panelists (2) Carp fish meat usage in the meatball dough could affect the flavor, but panelists still consider it favorable, and (3) Beef meatballs mixed with carp fish meat between 12.5% - 50% did not affect preferences as well as taste.

Abstract

The topography of Jatiyoso sub-district is steep and mountainous, leading to potential erosion and landslide. Adding more problems to such situation, most farming activities tend to plant seasonal crops without any land conservation attempts. This research aimed to set up a model of community empowerment in landslide prone areas. Results showed that a successful program of community empowerment in landslide-prone areas must comprehensively involve every community elements. The community empowerment model was created based on input, process, and output. The end result of such empowerment model should hopefully generate community participation in the effort of land conservation in landslide prone areas.

Abstract

This research aim to propose an alternative distribution pattern of government- subsidized paddy seeds to effictively reach the farmers. The research was conducted in Purbalingga District, Central Java, by using the descriptive analysis method. The primary and secondary data were obtained by indepth interview and documentation. The data were further analysed descriptively to lonw the mechanism of subsidize paddy seeds distribution. Result of the research indicated that the paddy seed varieties (breeder seeds) were first yielded by the Ministry of Agriculture's Reseqrch and Development Center, then further distributed b Seed Directorate to be channelled to Balai Benih Induk, the institution responsible for yielding the foundation seeds. The seeds w-ere then propagated by producers and middlemen to yield stock seeds or extension seeds and became available to the farmers through agriculture kiosks.

Abstract

Many parties have believed that agricultural and rural sector have been shifting toward diversification, commercialization, sustainability and efficiency. Those phenomenons have made it necessary for the paradigm changes of agricultural extension practices. From the perspective of political-economy, many dramatically changes have occurred including decentralization, democratization, liberalization and privatization. To respond to the new paradigm, countries worldwide have adopted a variety of institutional reform for agricultural and rural extension. In Indonesian case, by considering a big variation of farming conditions and farmer resources, choosing only single strategy for institutional reform of agricultural extension has been likely not appropriate. Funding and dervice of public extension are still hugely needed especially for food production and smallholder farming business. However, privatization of extension has been started from last decade for profitable farming commodities. Public-private-partnership is likely one among the solutions. for agricultural extension arrangements. Optimizing of accumulation and distribution of agricultural knowledge's that has been acknowledged as triangle knowledge model including research, education and extension where farmer is situated as a center of the system will be great solutions for overcoming various problems of agricultural development. From technical perspective, development and utilization of Informationd and Communication Technologies (ICTs) for agricultural extension has become promizing strategy. ICTs in some cases could guaranty high speed and effectiveness of information distribution for new technologies and innovations.

Abstract

This research aimed to study rice field productivity in Kupang Timur, NTT. The research was carried out on April 30th 20ll in East Kupang District. Data analysis used in the research was Magic Box method. The principle use of the magic box was by using parameters of productivity and stability. The research used paddy fields productivity data in the villages of Oefafi, Pukdale, Nunkurus, Manusak, Oesao, Oelatimo, and Tanah Putih; and the villages of Tuatuka, Oesao, Babau, and Merdeka, during 2006-2010. In the research, paddy field productivity was considered as low if: productivity <29.8kw/ha; moderate if:29.8< the Productivity< 49.6kw / ha; and high if: productivity ≥ 49,6 kw/ha. Stability was categorized as low if the Coefficient of Variation (CV): CV> 20%,; moderate if: CV 10-20%; and high if CV< 10%. Results of analysis showed that the magic box outcome for Oefafi Village, Pukdale, Ninkurur, Manusak, and Oelatimo; and Village Tuatuka, Oesao, Naibonat, Babau, and Merdeka had the same stability and productivity levels, i.e. medium productivity and high stability (Box 4), while the village oesao andTanah Putihproductivity and stability were medium (Box 5). ' According to the outcome of the magic box, farmer group empowerment efforts should be done through two approaches, namely , research and extension. Farmer group empowerment include the following activities: 1) The use of improved labelled seed, 2) fostering group labelled breeder seed, 3) utilization of livestock wastes for organic fertilizer production; 4) Structuring the cropping pattern and crop plots;-5) Improved post-harvest activities; 6) Optimization of the land cultivation; 7) Optimization of pest control with IPM principles, and Group coaching'
