Abstract

This study aimed to determine the level of farmers’ motivation in cultivating jambu air Citra (Citra water apple) and to identify the factors related to their motivation. The research was conducted purposively in Sumberagung Hamlet, Tegalsari District, Banyuwangi Regency. Jambu air Citra is a commodity with high economic potential that requires optimal cultivation practices, although farmers often face obstacles such as pests and diseases that can damage or cause premature fruit drop. This research employed a descriptive quantitative approach with Rank Spearman correlation analysis. The dependent variable was farmers’ motivation, while the independent variables included age, farming experience, education level, land area, income, availability of capital, availability of production inputs, and farm location distance. The results showed that the farmers’ motivation was classified as high, with 57% or 16 farmers falling into this category. The motivation aspects, namely existence, relatedness, and growth, were all in the high category. The analysis revealed five factors significantly related to farmers’ motivation: age, farming experience, land area, income, and availability of production inputs. Meanwhile, education level, availability of capital, and distance of farm location did not show a significant relationship.

Abstract

Melon (Cucumis melo L.) was a high-value horticultural commodity with increasing demand in both domestic and international markets. However, melon productivity in Indonesia remained unstable, partly due to low seed quality and the inappropriate selection of seedling media. The seedling stage played a crucial role in determining the success of plant growth in subsequent stages. Therefore, optimal seedling media were required to support the viability, vigor, and early growth of melon seedlings. This study aimed to determine the effects of different seedling media and melon varieties, as well as their interaction, on seed viability, vigor, and early seedling growth. The research was conducted from October 2024 to July 2025 at the Teaching Factory (TEFA) Celeban and the Seed Technology Laboratory of the Agricultural Development Polytechnic of Yogyakarta Magelang. A factorial randomized complete block design (RCBD) with four replications was used. The first factor was seedling media (soil, cocopeat, rice husk charcoal, and vermiculite), and the second was melon varieties (TM Gaiya and Manika). Data were analyzed using ANOVA, DMRT, multiple linear regression, and Pearson correlation for normally distributed data, and Kruskal–Wallis, Mann–Whitney, Generalized Linear Model (GLM), and Kendall Tau-b correlation for non-normal data. Vermiculite showed the best results and was recommended as an effective medium to enhance viability, vigor, and early seedling growth of melon.

Abstract

Abstract

Increasing rice production is one of the strategic priorities in supporting national food security. The jajar legowo planting pattern is an innovative rice cultivation system designed to enhance land productivity through optimized spacing and better sunlight absorption. This study aims to analyze the impact of implementing the jajar legowo planting pattern on increasing rice production among local farmers in Mungkung Village, Kalikajar, Wonosobo, Central Java. A qualitative approach was applied, with data collected through in-depth interviews, direct field observations, and documentation. The respondents consisted of farmers who had implemented the jajar legowo system and local agricultural extension officers. The findings reveal that the adoption of the jajar legowo pattern increased yields by 15–25% compared to conventional planting methods, while also improving grain quality. Supporting factors include the availability of superior seeds, technical guidance from extension workers, and farmers’ awareness of the benefits of this planting system. Constraints identified were limited labor availability during planting, initial adaptation to the new technique, and additional costs for land preparation. These results confirm that the jajar legowo planting pattern can serve as an effective strategy for increasing rice production, particularly in highland areas such as Wonosobo.
