Abstract

Background. Primiparous mothers have a higher risk of experiencing difficulties in providing breast milk (ASI) due to lack of experience and preparation to become mothers. 90% of mothers in Indonesia have breastfed their children, but those who provide exclusively for 6 months are still low at 20%. One of the reasons for the failure of the success of providing exclusive breastfeeding is the low self-confidence or belief (Self Efficacy) of primiparous mothers in providing breast milk. Therefore, it is necessary to provide education about breastfeeding by implementing the emotional demonstration method developed by the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) to increase breastfeeding self-efficacy in primiparous mothers. Objective. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the emotional demonstration method in increasing breastfeeding self-efficacy (BSE) in primiparous mothers in Bengkulu City. Method. The research design used quasi-experimental design with two group pretest-posttest design. Data collection used questionnaire instruments. The number of primiparous mother samples was 33 people in the intervention group and 33 people in the control group. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon test to determine the differences before and after the intervention. Result. The results of the study showed that there was a difference in Breastfeeding Self Efficacy before and after being given the emotional demonstration method with a p-value = 0.007 (<0.05). Conclusion. The emotional demonstration method has been proven to be effective in increasing Breastfeeding Self Efficacy in primiparous mothers.

Abstract

Background. Based on the 2023 GSHS data, 7.1% of adolescents aged 13–17 in Indonesia have had sexual intercourse, of which 66.2% are male and 33.8% are female. Adolescent premarital sexual behaviour is influenced by internal and external factors. Differences in social determinants may lead to behavioural variations between groups within a population. Aim. To identify differences in peer influence, parental roles, and mass media (as social environmental factors), as well as premarital sexual behaviour among urban dan rural high school students in Samarinda Method. This comparative cross-sectional study involved 274 respondents, consisting of 206 respondents from three urban high schools and 68 from one rural high school. They were selected using simple random sampling. Data were analysed using the Mann-Whitney U test and the independent t-test (parental role). Result. A significant difference was found in peer influence (0.004) between urban and rural high school students, while no significant differences were found in parental role (0.864), mass media influence (0.713), and premarital sexual behavior (0.862) between urban and rural high school students in Samarinda. Researchers recommend the development of health education involving peer educators in schools and adolescent parenting education, especially in rural areas. Conclusion. The mean rank of the peer influence variable score is higher among high school students in rural areas than in urban areas in Samarinda.

Abstract

Background. The I-HELP (Integrated Help Promoting School Programs) initiative is a school-based behavioural change intervention that integrates health values and belief-related variables into daily school activities. This program was developed as a follow-up to the collaboration between Universitas Muhammadiyah Prof. DR. Hamka (UHAMKA) and SEAMEO RECFON. Aim. his study aims to describe implementation of the I-HELP (Integrated Help Promoting School Programs) at the junior high school level in Jakarta in 2022. Method. This qualitative research employed a case study design conducted at SMP Muhammadiyah 4 and SMP Muhammadiyah 36 Jakarta. Data collection techniques included in-depth interviews, focus group discussions (FGDs), and a review of documents related to the implementation of the I-HELP Program. Data were analyzed using thematic analysis and content analysis to evaluate the process of program implementation. To strengthen the validity of the findings, methodological triangulation was applied through interviews with school principals, health promotion officers, teachers, and members of the I-HELP team from SEAMEO RECFON. Additionally, observations of school conditions and program activities, as well as an examination of relevant documents, were conducted. Result. The findings indicate that both schools implemented the I-HELP Program in alignment with global indicators for health-promoting schools. Furthermore, each school optimized its available resources to support program execution.

Abstract

Background. The prevalence of adolescent smokers aged 10–18 in Indonesia increased from 7.2% in 2013 to 9.1% in 2018. Approximately 70 million people in the country are active smokers, with 7.4% of them aged 10–18 years. Aim. This study aims to investigate the association between knowledge, attitude and subjective norms with smoking status among students at a public junior high school in Samarinda. Method. This study uses a cross-sectional design with a quantitative approach. A total of 159 respondents were randomly selected using proportionate stratified random sampling. Data were collected through interviews using a structured questionnaire and analyzed using the contingency coefficient correlation test. Result. A total of 23.9% respondents were identified as smokers, comprising 78.9% males and 21.8% female. Most had high knowledge levels (58.5%), positive attitude toward non-smoking behavior (57.2%), and supportive subjective norms (63.8%). Bivariate revealed statistically significant associations between smoking status and both attitude and subjective norms, while knowledge showed no significant association. The study recommends strengthening anti-smoking education, reinforcing family and school roles, and promoting sustained cross-sectoral collaboration.

Abstract

Background. The rapid development of social media has significantly influenced information-seeking behavior, including among pregnant women. One emerging phenomenon is doomscrolling, defined as the excessive consumption of negative information, which may trigger stress and anxiety. Aim. This study aimed to analyze the correlation between the intensity of doomscrolling of negative pregnancy-related information on social media and levels of stress and anxiety among pregnant women in Pare-Pare City. Method. This study employed a quantitative method with a cross-sectional design. The study population consisted of all pregnant women attending antenatal care at public health centers in Pare-Pare City, with a sample of 40 respondents selected using the Slovin formula. Data were collected using a doomscrolling intensity questionnaire, the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-10), and the Generalized Anxiety Disorder scale (GAD-7). Data analysis was conducted using univariate and bivariate analyses with the Kendall’s tau-b test. Result. Research shows that 42.5% of respondents have a moderate intensity of doomscrolling, 52.5% of res-pondents have a moderate level of stress, and 50% of respondents have a moderate level of anxiety. Statistical tests show a significant correlation between the intensity of doomscrolling and stress levels (p=0.004) and anxiety (p=0.002). Conclusion. Doomscrolling is correlated with the mental well being of pregnant women therefore, improvements in digital literacy and psychological support provided by healthcare professionals are needed.
