Abstract

Background. The results of the Indonesian Health Survey (SKI) in 2023 showed that the prevalence of anaemia in adolescents was 14.6%. Knowledge about blood tablets is one of the factors that can influence someone’s blood tablets consumption behavior. Increasing knowledge and attitudes regarding blood tablets consumption can be done through education. Aim. This study aims to analyse the effect of providing education on improving the knowledge and attitudes of parents and adolescent girls regarding anaemia prevention and consumption of blood supplement tablets in Socahah District, Bangkalan Regency. Method. This study used a quasi-experimental design by designing one group pre-test and post-test. The pre-test was conducted before the anemia prevention education. The post-test was conducted seven days after the training involving 89 adolescent girls aged 12-15 years and 40 parents in 3 junior high schools in Socah sub-district, Bangkalan district. Data were collected using validated questionnaires and analysed using the Wilcoxon test to measure changes in knowledge and attitudes. Result. Adolescent knowledge increased from 22.4% to 44.9% (p=0.00), as did attitudes which increased from 30.0% to 51.6% (p=0.00). In parents, there was a very significant increase in knowledge from 42.5% to 82.5% (p = 0.00), as well as an increase in attitude that reached 100% (p = 0.00). There was no effect of providing education in improving parental support in the prevention of anaemia and the importance of taking blood supplement tablets for adolescents (p = 0.45).

Aim: This study aims to identify the level of knowledge and attitudes of students and bullying behavior in Elementary Schools. Method: This study uses a cross-sectional approach with a cluster sampling technique. The research location is in six public elementary schools from six sub-districts in the Purwokerto Timur District with a sample size of 211 students. Data collection was conducted in July - August 2024 with univariate and bivariate analysis. Result: The majority of students have good knowledge about bullying (79.5%), and good attitudes about bullying (61.9%). As many as 47.2% of students have been bullied at school, and 52.8% of students admitted to having been victims of bullying by their friends. The majority of bullies are male (54%), and the majority of victims of bullying are female (68%). This study had no significant relationship between knowledge and attitudes towards bullying behavior. Promotive and preventive efforts in schools must be continuously intensified to create a safe learning environment and prevent bullying among students.

Abstract

Background. Mental health disorders have become a significant global concern, with the Global Health Data Exchange reporting approximately 970 million individuals worldwide—equivalent to one in eight people—suffering from mental health issues, primarily depression and anxiety. Adolescents are particularly vulnerable due to academic and non-academic pressures. Experiential learning, an active educational approach, may serve as an effective method to enhance adolescent knowledge and self-efficacy regarding mental health. Objective. To analyze the effectiveness of the experiential learning method in improving adolescents’ knowledge and self-efficacy related to mental health. Method. This study employed a pre-experimental one group pretest-posttest design, conducted at a senior high school in Balikpapan City. A total of 30 students were selected purposively from a population of 444. Knowledge data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test, while self-efficacy data were analyzed using the paired t-test. Results. The N-Gain score was 0.65, indicating that the experiential learning method was moderately effective in improving students' knowledge and self-efficacy. Conclusion. Experiential learning is effective in enhancing adolescent understanding and confidence in managing mental health issues. This method is recommended as an interactive educational strategy and could be extended to other health topics to promote youth well-being.

Abstract

Informal public transport, as a mode of transportation, offers flexibility to users by allowing them to access services conveniently. However, its mode of operation poses significant challenges, particularly regarding safety, thereby undermining the core objective of ensuring safe travel. This study employs a survey research design to investigate passengers' safety perceptions in informal public transport along the Lokoja-Okene transport corridor. A total of 300 questionnaires were purposefully distributed among commuters using the Lokoja-Okene transport network, with 255 valid responses analyzed using frequencies and percentages. The relationship between passenger safety and factors influencing it was analysed using multiple regression analysis. The findings identified eight key factors affecting passenger safety, including vehicle condition (37.5%), driver driving behavior (41.9%), poor road conditions (57.7%), overloading (42.6%), and driver operational behaviour (46%). Furthermore, a statistically significant relationship was established between passenger safety and factors such as driver behavior, operational practices, and vehicle condition, which were found to influence passengers' safety perceptions positively. In conclusion, informal public transport operations along the Lokoja-Okene road network are deemed highly unsafe. The study recommends, among other measures, that Kogi State Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIOs) implement mandatory periodic inspections for vehicles operating in informal public transport along this route.

Abstract

Background. In 2018, 48.9% of adolescent girls in Indonesia were diagnosed with anemia. Knowledge about the definition, symptoms, and prevention of anemia, including the correct use of Iron Supplement Tablets (IST), is essential in the prevention of anemia. A deeper understanding of these behaviors is necessary to formulate effective educational messages. The Health Belief Model (HBM) is often used to explore and understand preventive behaviors. Aim. To explore the determinants and practices of IST consumption among adolescent girls. Method. This descriptive qualitative study used a phenomenological approach. Participants were selected purposively from adolescent girls. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, transcribed, and analyzed by identifying themes in line with the study objectives. Results. Not all participants knew the definition of anemia, its symptoms, or preventive measures. However, participants were aware that IST could prevent anemia in addition to consuming healthy food. Some did not perceive themselves as vulnerable to anemia or did not see it as a serious threat. Barriers to IST consumption included its unpleasant taste and odor, and irregular availability at schools. Many participants lacked confidence in taking IST regularly, often forgetting, or needing reminders from parents or peers. Information about anemia and IST was obtained from school, parents, peers, and media. Despite knowing about IST, regular consumption every week was not consistently practiced. A wider and continuous educational approach using various methods and media is needed to increase adherence.
