Abstract

This research explores the impact of decentralization on the education system in Bosnia-Herzegovina, focusing on three key areas: school autonomy, curriculum adaptation, and the role of local governments. Following the end of the conflict in 1995, the education sector underwent significant reforms aimed at addressing the diverse needs of a multi-ethnic society. Decentralization has allowed local authorities to exercise greater control over educational policies, which has led to increased school autonomy. Interviews with school principals and teachers reveal that while autonomy has enabled schools to tailor their curricula to local contexts, it has also presented challenges in maintaining educational quality. Additionally, the study highlights the varying effectiveness of local governments in supporting educational initiatives, with some regions successfully improving resources and teacher support, while others struggle with financial constraints. This research underscores the complexities of balancing local needs with national educational standards, suggesting that a more coordinated approach is necessary to enhance educational equity across all regions of Bosnia-Herzegovina.

Abstract

This study explores the effectiveness of guided inquiry as a strategy for improving Arabic writing skills among Madrasah Tsanawiyah students. The research involved implementing guided inquiry methods in writing instruction over a semester and assessing its impact on students’ grammar, coherence, and critical thinking. Data were collected through pretest and posttest assessments of students’ writing, along with observational data on classroom interactions and student feedback. Results indicated significant improvements in grammar accuracy, sentence complexity, and essay coherence. Students demonstrated enhanced abilities to organize and develop arguments, use evidence effectively, and express their opinions with greater clarity. The guided inquiry approach also positively influenced students' perceptions of their writing abilities and confidence. Despite these gains, challenges such as difficulties in self-editing and generating ideas without direct guidance were noted. The findings suggest that guided inquiry is a valuable pedagogical tool for enhancing writing skills but also highlight the need for additional support mechanisms to address ongoing challenges.

Abstract

This research investigates the role of higher education in fostering economic development in Egypt, focusing on policy implementation and the alignment of educational outcomes with market needs. The study utilizes a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative surveys and qualitative semi-structured interviews with students, educators, and policymakers to explore perceptions of higher education's contribution to economic growth. The findings reveal that while Egypt's higher education system has made significant progress in increasing accessibility, there remain gaps in the relevance of education to the labor market. Regression analysis highlights a positive correlation between educational attainment and economic indicators, though skills mismatches persist. Case studies of successful university-industry partnerships underscore the importance of practical, hands-on learning and innovation in driving economic progress. Furthermore, comparisons with global best practices, particularly in South Korea and Finland, provide insights into potential policy reforms. Recommendations include enhancing university-industry collaboration, improving curriculum relevance, and investing in research and development to ensure higher education in Egypt supports sustainable economic growth

Abstract

This study investigates the effectiveness of formative assessments and peer reviews in enhancing student learning outcomes in educational settings. Through a mixed-methods approach, quantitative data were collected via pre- and post-test scores, while qualitative insights were gathered from student and teacher interviews. The results reveal a significant improvement in student performance following the implementation of formative assessments, particularly among low-performing students. Additionally, qualitative findings indicate that students generally view formative assessments as beneficial for self-regulation and learning control, despite some challenges related to workload and stress. Teacher feedback highlighted the importance of these assessment methods in adapting instruction and monitoring progress, although concerns about time and resource allocation were also noted. The study underscores the need for careful implementation of formative assessments and peer reviews to maximize their effectiveness while addressing the associated challenges.

Abstract

This study explores the effectiveness of constructivist and traditional approaches in teaching Arabic to beginners. The constructivist approach, grounded in active learning and real-world application, emphasizes learner engagement and collaborative learning. The traditional approach, however, focuses on structured grammar-based instruction, providing learners with a foundational understanding of language rules. Through a comparative analysis of two groups of beginners—one taught using a constructivist approach and the other using a traditional method—the research examines differences in engagement, motivation, and skill development (speaking, listening, reading, writing). Data was collected through classroom observations, interviews, and questionnaires to assess the participants' experiences and perceptions. Results indicate that learners in the constructivist group showed higher engagement and improved speaking and listening skills, while the traditional group excelled in reading and writing. Both approaches presented unique challenges, such as limited practical application in the traditional group and insufficient focus on grammatical accuracy in the constructivist group. The study concludes that a blended approach, combining the strengths of both methods, may provide the most comprehensive language learning experience for beginners.
