Abstract

The moral degradation among students—such as bullying, inappropriate social interactions, and low empathy—emphasizes the urgency of Akhlak (Islamic moral education) that fosters noble character and higher-order thinking skills. Critical thinking enables students to analyze information, assess moral values, and make logical, responsible decisions amid the rapid digital information flow. This study explores the preparation, implementation, and evaluation of the problem-based learning (PBL) model to enhance students’ critical thinking in Akhlak subjects at MTs Mu’allimin Katekan. Using a qualitative descriptive design, data were collected from teachers, students, and classroom observations through interviews, documentation, and observation. Data were analyzed through reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing, with validity ensured by source and technique triangulation. Results show that PBL, applied through preparation, implementation, and evaluation stages, effectively fostered students’ confidence, argumentation, collaboration, responsibility, and empathy. Although some students were still passive and time was limited, PBL significantly improved critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and moral character.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the operational curriculum of Islamic boarding schools in dealing with the needs of students in the era of the Industrial Revolution 4.0, with a focus on the approach and design of the curriculum. In the context of Islamic boarding schools, the use of information technology is still limited, so it is necessary to rearrange the curriculum to adapt to the challenges of the evolving times. This study raises questions about the challenges of pesantren in facing the needs of students in the era of the Industrial Revolution 4.0, the suitability of the approach of the pesantren operational curriculum to the needs of students, and the suitability of the design of the pesantren operational curriculum with the needs of students in the era of the Industrial Revolution 4.0. The research method used is qualitative with a library research approach. The results of the analysis are expected to provide an overview of the quality of the pesantren curriculum in facing the challenges of the ever-evolving times. This research is expected to contribute to improving the quality of pesantren education in the era of the Industrial Revolution 4.0.

Abstract

This study examines the interconnected role of policy frameworks and leadership behavior in shaping educational quality within contemporary school systems. Using a qualitative design supported by document analysis and thematic interpretation, the research explores how leadership practices interact with governance structures, policy mandates, and institutional contexts to influence school performance. Findings reveal that effective educational leadership is not merely a function of individual leadership styles but is deeply shaped by policy implementation dynamics, organizational culture, and the broader sociopolitical environment. The study also highlights key challenges faced by school leaders in translating policy goals into meaningful instructional improvements, particularly amid increasing accountability pressures and rapid educational transformations. Overall, the research underscores the need for integrated policy–leadership approaches that align strategic vision, governance structures, and evidence-based practices to sustainably enhance educational outcomes.

Abstract

This study examines the cognitive load management strategies employed in digital learning environments and their implications for student performance. As online and technology-mediated learning continues to expand globally, understanding how cognitive load influences students’ processing of digital instructional materials becomes increasingly crucial. Using a qualitative descriptive approach supported by an analysis of contemporary research in cognitive science and digital pedagogy, the study explores how intrinsic, extraneous, and germane cognitive loads interact within various digital platforms. The findings reveal that poorly designed digital interfaces, excessive multimedia elements, and unstructured tasks significantly increase extraneous load, thereby reducing learning efficiency. Conversely, well-designed instructional scaffolds, adaptive technologies, and structured multimedia integration optimize germane cognitive load, leading to improved comprehension and performance. This study highlights the importance of cognitive load-informed design in digital learning ecosystems and calls for collaborative efforts between educators, instructional designers, and technology developers to ensure effective digital learning experiences.

Abstract

This study examines how educational governance operates within an increasingly globalized world, focusing on comparative perspectives of accountability, autonomy, and school performance across different national contexts. Globalization has reshaped governance frameworks by introducing international standards, cross-national policy borrowing, and performance-based accountability systems that influence national reforms. Despite extensive global discourse on school governance, significant gaps remain in understanding how varying degrees of school autonomy interact with accountability pressures to affect institutional quality and student outcomes. Using a comparative qualitative approach, this research analyzes governance models in multiple countries representing centralized, decentralized, and hybrid systems. Findings reveal that high-autonomy systems require robust accountability mechanisms to ensure equity, while highly centralized systems often struggle with innovation and responsiveness to local needs. The study highlights that effective governance depends not merely on autonomy or accountability alone, but on balanced alignment between policy design, leadership capacity, and socio-cultural conditions. These insights contribute to global education policy debates and provide practical considerations for countries seeking to enhance school performance through improved governance structures.

Abstract

This study explores strategies for empowering adult learners through lifelong learning in non-formal education settings, focusing on enhancing participation and skill development. The research employed a qualitative approach, incorporating participatory methods, observations, interviews, and document analysis to understand learner experiences and program effectiveness. Findings reveal that experiential learning, peer collaboration, flexible course structures, mentorship, and problem-based learning significantly contribute to increased engagement, practical skill acquisition, and self-confidence among adult learners. Moreover, aligning learning content with learners’ socio-economic contexts enhances relevance and motivation, while digital tools expand accessibility and participation. Overall, the study demonstrates that learner-centered, contextually relevant lifelong learning initiatives can effectively empower adults, foster autonomy, and promote continuous skill development, with implications for policy and practice in non-formal education.
