Abstract

Waste management remains one of the major challenges affecting public health in many developing regions, including Samboja Kuala Village, Kutai Kartanegara District. Improperly managed household waste often serves as a breeding ground for Aedes aegypti, the vector of dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF), which continues to cause high morbidity in Indonesia. This community service program aimed to increase public awareness of the health impacts of waste and to provide practical skills in producing a natural mosquito repellent spray using lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus) and orange peels. The program was carried out through several stages, including preparation, socialization using lectures and educational media (leaflets and posters), demonstration of the production process, and mentoring. Thirty community participants and ten KKN students were involved in the activity. The evaluation employed pre-test and post-test questionnaires to measure knowledge improvement. The results indicated a significant increase in participants’ average scores, from 22.73 in the pre-test to 29.36 in the post-test. Furthermore, participants successfully produced a natural mosquito repellent spray that was safe, environmentally friendly, and easy to apply. These outcomes demonstrate that combining education with hands-on practice is effective in improving knowledge and skills while promoting environmentally friendly solutions that utilize organic waste. The program is expected to raise collective awareness of environmental health and has the potential to be sustained as a local innovation with economic value.

Abstract

This study examines the impact of the "Gemar Menabung dengan Celengan Kreatif" program on enhancing financial literacy and saving habits among elementary school children in rural areas. The program integrates creativity with financial education by involving students in hands-on activities, such as creating piggy banks from recycled bottles. The aim was to foster an understanding of saving and financial management while also raising environmental awareness. Using a combination of pre-test and post-test assessments, as well as qualitative methods like interviews and observations, the study evaluates the effectiveness of this creative educational approach. The results demonstrate significant improvements in the children’s understanding of financial concepts, with increased motivation to save. The hands-on nature of the activities led to higher engagement, and students showed a greater understanding of the link between money management and their daily lives. Additionally, the creative aspect of the program contributed to increased environmental consciousness. This study contributes to the existing body of knowledge by highlighting the effectiveness of integrating financial literacy with creative projects in rural education. The findings suggest that similar programs could be scaled up in other rural areas, providing valuable insights for further research on long-term behavioral changes and the role of community involvement in financial education.

Furthermore, active involvement of the youth in social activities such as charity events, assistance for the needy, and environmental care initiatives facilitated the internalization of Islamic values in their daily lives. The program not only focused on spiritual development but also emphasized community empowerment and organizational capacity building of RDM. Thus, the community service program conducted by RDM Al-Ikhlas has proven to be an effective model in shaping a morally upright and socially responsible young generation, which can be replicated in other mosque-based youth communities.

Abstract

Education is a key foundation for improving the quality of life in rural communities. In Ramitie Village, Sungai Mas Subdistrict, West Aceh, children and adolescents still show low interest in learning, mainly due to limited facilities and the lack of consistent guidance. The 2025 Community Service Program (KKN) of Teuku Umar University was designed to address this challenge through regular tutoring sessions, creative skills training, the establishment of a reading corner, and awareness campaigns on the importance of education. The program applied a participatory approach, engaging local residents, village officials, and community leaders throughout its planning and implementation. The results indicate increased learning motivation, improvement in basic literacy and numeracy skills among children, and stronger collective awareness of education’s role in community development. Furthermore, a village study group was established to ensure program sustainability after the KKN period. These findings highlight that empowerment based on collaboration can foster a culture of learning while strengthening human resource development in rural areas.

Abstract

The narrative of each product in a destination needs to be conveyed by telling the uniqueness of each product to arouse curiosity among visitors or tourists. Storytelling in the context of tourism is a method of conveying a story through words, images, or other media, with the aim of conveying information, entertaining, or influencing guests. Budo is a tourist village that has many potential attractions with backgrounds that are said to be myths or actual events, but the managers have never realized that the stories behind these attractions can be memorable for tourists visiting the location. Storytelling training equips tourism managers with various skills and abilities, such as speaking skills, thinking skills, and creativity in managing the existing tourism potential to the maximum. Training methods: opening or orientation, core storytelling activities, and closing or evaluation. The primary focus is on creating engaging stories with a strong core and a structured narrative flow. Abstract

Consumers have become increasingly concerned about food quality and safety in the last decade. Fostering and maintaining guest confidence in food quality and safety requires the role of quality assurance departments in the food sector.  These guidelines consist of the basic principles, procedures, personal hygiene and means necessary to design and maintain an environment suitable for producing acceptable quality food.  Budo Tourism Village has 15 culinary operators and 11 tourist facilities and so far there have been no cases of culinary mismanagement causing illness or casualties to visitors.  However, during observations of tourist sites, and facilities owned by culinary arrangements are still classified as below standard and the cleanliness of waiters and culinary managers has not been maximized. Discussion and practice methods were used in this training. The results show that the level of understanding of the participants is quite responsive, this is indicated by six assessment indictors, namely: cleanliness and sanitation, separation of food ingredients, cooking properly, storage of food ingredients, selection of raw materials and dining table set-up. Furthermore, the assessment of the presenters by the participants related to the content of the material and delivery, on average participants answered with interesting and mastering.
