Abstract

Students with disabilities are a group that cannot be overlooked in the education and learning process. Often, due to their limitations and societal perceptions that underestimate their abilities, they tend to lack self-confidence, which in turn hinders them from maximizing their individual potential. This article discusses strategies implemented by MAN 2 Sleman to instill and foster self-confidence among students with disabilities. The study employed a qualitative method with a case study approach. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation. The results revealed three key strategies. First, the school provides equal access to education for students with disabilities. In the learning context, teachers at MAN 2 Sleman are required to be creative in designing instruction so that teaching materials and methods are accessible to students with disabilities. Second, the school implements a compensatory program as a special enrichment initiative for students with disabilities, which includes consultation services to accommodate their complaints and aspirations, mapping of their interests and talents, and encouragement to participate in various extracurricular activities as outlets for their interests and talents. They are also involved in various competitions to build their self-confidence. Third, the school fosters an inclusive environment by cultivating an attitude of openness among non-disabled students and establishing a disability-friendly community.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the cross-cultural adaptation process experienced by Indonesian pre-service EFL teachers when teaching English at early childhood education institutions in Thailand and its impact on teaching effectiveness. This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach based on Kim’s stress–adaptation–development theory (2017). Purposive sampling technique was used to select eight Indonesian female pre-service EFL teachers based on their experience in international teaching practice. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and analysed using thematic analysis through coding, categorization, and theme interpretation. The results showed that differences in language and student learning styles were the main obstacles in the early stages of adjustment. However, the participants gradually adjusted their teaching methods by using nonverbal communication, songs, games, movements, and experience-based approaches. This adjustment increased student engagement, improved classroom interaction, and strengthened the relationship between teachers and students. Support from mentors and the school environment also played a role in facilitating the adjustment process. Overall, cross-cultural adaptation contributed positively to the quality of English language teaching in early childhood education. This study shows that pedagogical adaptability and intercultural competence are essential for pre-service EFL teachers when facing multilingual classroom environments in early childhood education.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the ecotheological dimension in Ahmad Nurullah's poetry collection Setelah Hari Keenam by the Sixth Day, focusing on a reading that integrates ecocritical approaches and theological reflection. The research method used is qualitative analysis with an ecocritical approach based on an ecotheological perspective. The research data consist of poetic texts in Setelah Hari Keenam, which were purposively selected based on the relevance of their ecological and theological themes. The analysis was conducted by interpreting symbols, metaphors, and poetic structures to identify representations of nature, ecological submission, and spiritual reflections contained therein. The conclusion of this study is that Ahmad Nurullah's work functions not only as an aesthetic expression, but also as a theological-ecological text that encourages reconciliation between humans and the earth. An ecotheological reading of this work demonstrates the potential of literature in mediating spiritual relationships with nature and fostering collective awareness of the importance of environmental sustainability. This research is expected to expand the repertoire of Indonesian literary studies based on ecocriticism and become a reference for interdisciplinary research that connects literature, theology, and environmental studies.

Abstract

This study investigated the strategies used by an English teacher to improve the listening skills of a student with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in an inclusive senior high school classroom. Using a qualitative case study design, data were collected through semi-structured interviews and classroom observations involving one English teacher who taught a student with ADHD. The data were analyzed using thematic analysis. The findings revealed six major themes: the teacher’s adaptation process, the student’s characteristics and responses during listening activities, the use of simple and repetitive instructions, the use of visual media and animation, challenges in managing distractions, and the development of the student’s focus skills. The teacher implemented various adaptive strategies, including individual guidance, repeated instructions, simplified explanations, audio-visual materials, and supportive teacher and student interactions. These strategies helped increase the student’s engagement and participation in listening activities despite ongoing attention difficulties. The study also found that the teacher relied primarily on personal teaching experience rather than formal training in inclusive education. The findings highlight the importance of adaptive teaching practices and the need for professional development programs to better prepare teachers to support students with ADHD in inclusive EFL classrooms.

Abstract

Bullying is a significant problem that requires special attention from educators, parents, and the government, as it can have a profound impact on the victims. Victims of bullying often experience feelings of pressure and frustration, which can lead to depression and even suicidal attempts. The inability of students to interact with their peers in the school environment is suspected to contribute to the emergence of bullying behavior. This study aims to analyze the influence of interpersonal and intrapersonal intelligence on bullying behavior tendencies among junior high school students in Indonesia. A quantitative-causal comparative research design was employed, with a sample of 400 students selected using cluster sampling. The research instrument was validated using construct validity (r ≥ 0.3) and reliability (alpha Cronbach ≥ 0.7). The results showed a significant negative relationship between interpersonal intelligence (β = -0.155) and intrapersonal intelligence (β = -0.841) with bullying behavior tendencies (p < 0.05). The findings suggest that both interpersonal and intrapersonal intelligence are significant predictors of bullying behavior tendencies among junior high school students in Indonesia.

Abstract

Human trafficking is one of the most severe forms of gender-based violence, exposing women to physical, psychological, sexual, and economic abuse. Literary works often portray these realities while criticizing social injustice against women. This study aims to analyze the forms of violence experienced by the female protagonist, Indayati Sri Utamawati, in Mimi lan Mintuna by Remy Sylado. A qualitative descriptive approach with feminist literary criticism was employed. The primary data source was the novel, while data were collected through close reading, note-taking, and documentation. Data were analyzed using an interactive model consisting of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, with theoretical triangulation ensuring validity. The findings reveal that Indayati experiences interconnected forms of violence throughout the narrative. Physical violence includes assault and confinement; psychological violence involves intimidation, manipulation, threats, and humiliation; sexual violence includes forced nudity, sexual exploitation, pornography, and prostitution; while economic violence appears through labor exploitation, commodification of the female body, deprivation of economic autonomy, and appropriation of the victim's labor. These findings demonstrate how patriarchal power relations and human trafficking systematically deprive women of dignity, autonomy, and fundamental human rights.

Abstract

This study empirically analyzes the impact of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) disclosures on financial performance. The sample consists of 77 manufacturing companies, including 46 from Indonesia, 15 from Malaysia, and 16 from Thailand, listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX), Bursa Malaysia, and the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET), with 231 observations over the 2022–2024 period. Samples were selected using purposive sampling. Panel data regression was employed using STATA 17 at a 5% significance level, with model selection determined through Chow, Lagrange Multiplier, and Hausman tests. The results indicate that environmental disclosure has a positive and significant effect on financial performance, as companies with greater environmental transparency tend to gain investor trust and improve operational efficiency. However, social and governance disclosures do not significantly influence financial performance, suggesting that social initiatives require substantial upfront costs with long-term benefits, while governance practices often remain formal compliance without substantive implementation. These findings support the stakeholder theory perspective that environmental transparency enhances corporate legitimacy and financial outcomes.

Abstract

This study aimed to explore the self-acceptance of parents who have children with moderate intellectual disabilities at the State Special Needs School in Pagaralam City. This research employed a qualitative approach using a phenomenological method. The participants consisted of parents of children with moderate intellectual disabilities enrolled at the State Special Needs School in Pagaralam City. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation. The data were analyzed using the interactive model of Miles and Huberman, including data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings revealed that parents experienced a gradual process of self-acceptance, beginning with feelings of shock, sadness, disappointment, and difficulty accepting their child's condition, before eventually accepting it as part of their lives. Self-acceptance was influenced by several factors, including family support, social support, religious beliefs, the adaptation process over time, and parental responsibility. Adequate social support and positive meaning-making helped parents reduce emotional distress, accept their children's condition more realistically, and provide more positive and optimal parenting. Therefore, self-acceptance among parents of children with moderate intellectual disabilities is a dynamic process influenced by both internal and external factors.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of service quality and promotion on tourist satisfaction at tourism destinations in Sabang City. Tourist satisfaction is one of the key indicators of successful destination management, influenced by the ability of destination managers to provide high-quality services and implement effective promotional strategies. This study employed a quantitative approach using a survey method. The research sample consisted of 100 tourists selected through an accidental sampling technique. Data were collected using a five-point Likert scale questionnaire and analyzed using IBM SPSS Statistics 25 through descriptive statistical analysis and multiple linear regression. The descriptive analysis showed that the mean score for service quality was 20.20 out of a maximum score of 25, promotion scored 12.63 out of 15, and tourist satisfaction scored 12.27 out of 15. These findings indicate that tourists perceived both the service quality and promotional activities of tourism destinations in Sabang City positively. The results further revealed that service quality and promotion have a positive and significant effect on tourist satisfaction, indicating that improvements in service quality and the effectiveness of promotional activities are associated with higher levels of tourist satisfaction. This study implies that tourism destination managers and local governments should continuously improve service quality, strengthen human resource competencies, and optimize promotional strategies, particularly through digital media, to enhance tourist satisfaction, encourage repeat visits, and strengthen the competitiveness of Sabang City's tourism sector.

Abstract

This study aims to explore translanguaging practices in multilingual classrooms involving young learners. Using a qualitative approach, data were collected through classroom observations and semi-structured interviews with five teachers. The findings reveal that translanguaging is consistently used as part of the teaching and learning process. Teachers employ multiple languages—English, Malay, and Thai—within a single learning activity to accommodate students’ diverse linguistic backgrounds. Language shifting is used strategically to clarify concepts and vocabulary, while repetition of instructions in different languages helps ensure students’ understanding. In addition, students respond using mixed languages, indicating that translanguaging occurs naturally in classroom interaction. The study also finds that translanguaging plays significant pedagogical roles, particularly in enhancing students’ comprehension, confidence, and participation. The use of students’ first language creates a more inclusive and supportive learning environment, allowing them to engage more actively in classroom activities. These findings suggest that translanguaging is not merely a communicative practice but also an effective pedagogical strategy in multilingual early childhood education.
