Abstract

Didactic Transposition of Absolute Value in Calculus Courses: Analyzing Curicula, Textbooks, and Classroom Instruction. Objective; This study aimed to analyze the knowledge to be taught in absolute value learning as part of the didactic transposition process. Method; A qualitative approach with a descriptive design was employed to examine curriculum documents and calculus textbooks as primary data sources. The research adopted a didactic transposition and praxeological framework to analyze the structure of absolute value instruction. The methodology included document selection based on inclusion criteria, content analysis of absolute value concepts in textbooks, comparison with theoretical praxeology models, and expert validation to ensure alignment with established mathematical and pedagogical principles. Triangulation was applied by analyzing multiple textbooks and curricula to enhance validity and reliability. Findings; The study results indicate that learning absolute value requires comprehensive material to bridge the transition of knowledge from school to university. Differential calculus textbooks introduce the absolute value concept with an initial definition as a non-negative value that geometrically represents distance, followed by a piecewise definition commonly found in high school textbooks. Content analysis reveals that task techniques related to absolute value material predominantly focus on perceptual, algebraic, and operational aspects, while graphical visualization is lacking, which hinders a thorough conceptual understanding. This highlights the contrast between the procedural approach in schools and the conceptual approach in universities, emphasizing the necessity of comprehensive materials to prevent learning obstacles. Conclusion; The findings emphasize the need for a more comprehensive presentation of absolute value in university calculus textbooks to support a smooth transition from school to higher education. The analysis revealed that while absolute value is introduced conceptually, the lack of graphical representation limits students' understanding. Additionally, inconsistencies between curriculum documents and learning materials indicate the necessity of aligning instructional resources. To prevent learning obstacles, it is recommended that absolute value content in differential calculus textbooks be presented in a complete and structured manner, integrating both procedural and conceptual approaches. Keywords: knowledge to be taught, absolute value, didactic transposition.

Abstract

MASTER Learning Model: Motivating, Acquiring, Searching, Triggering,  Exhibiting, Reflecting toward Students Mathematical Reasoning. Objectives: This study aims to analyze the effect of the MASTER learning model (motivating, acquiring, searching, triggering, exhibiting, and reflecting) on students' mathematical reasoning. Methods: This study is classified as a quasi-experiment involving participants engaging fifth-grade students in two Sidoarjo primary schools. The study design was a pre-test, post-test-only control group involving the experiment and control classes. The experiment class implemented the MASTER learning model, and the control class implemented conventional learning. Learning in both classes used the same material, namely building space.  The sample was selected using a purposive sampling technique, with one class in one primary school in Sidoarjo as the experimental class and one primary school in Sidoarjo as the control class. The study instrument used a mathematical reasoning test to measure three components of mathematical reasoning: analysis, generalization, and justification. Validity and reliability tests were conducted before the mathematical reasoning test was used. Data analysis used descriptive and inferential. Descriptive analysis includes the calculation of mean, standard deviation, and effect size. Meanwhile, inferential analysis uses an independent t-test with two prerequisite tests: normality and homogeneity. Findings: This study's result shows a significant impact of the MASTER learning model on students' mathematical reasoning. In this case, the effect size is confirmed in the large category of mathematical reasoning. Descriptive study results show that there is a difference between students who follow MASTER learning and students who follow conventional learning. The difference can be seen in the value of students' mathematical reasoning component. In this case, the highest to smallest differences in mathematical reasoning components are analysis, justification, and generalization. Conclusion: The MASTER learning model can significantly impact enhancing students' mathematical reasoning in elementary school. Consecutively, enhancing mathematical reasoning is confirmed in the components of analysis, justification, and generalization. Keywords: MASTER learning model, mathematical reasoning, primary students.

Abstract

A Systematic Review of Sustainable Higher Education Assessment System: Indicators, Models, and Future Directions. Objective: Evaluation of the sustainability of higher education institutions (HEIs) has become a major focus in academia, especially as evaluation and ranking systems have evolved into increasingly complex ones. This study aims to provide a set of simple indicators for national policy makers to facilitate the measurement of progress towards sustainability in the higher education sector. Methods: Using a qualitative descriptive approach and a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method, this study examines 16 types of higher education ranking systems and 16 previous research findings based on the UNEP sustainable higher education framework policy, in order to develop a set of indicators specific to the sustainable higher education sector. Articles were selected using the keywords "sustainable higher education" OR "Sustainable performance measurement" and "Performance indicator AND sustainable HEIs" through a systematic screening process that was in line with the inclusion criteria, including relevance to indicators for assessing sustainable higher education performance. Findings: The results of this study revealed areas that were not yet filled, especially in the criteria that combine all pillars holistically. Previous researchers assessed higher education using only part of the four pillars of sustainability identified by the UN, based on the reviewed literature, it was found that 37.5% of researchers used 3 pillars, 25% of researchers used 2 pillars and 37.5% of researchers used 1 pillar of sustainable higher education. This shows that there is an opportunity for further research that can integrate all aspects of higher education sustainability holistically. This multidimensional approach is important to provide a more complete and comprehensive picture of the performance and contribution of higher education in the context of sustainability. Conclusion: It is necessary to develop a comprehensive and integrative evaluation method, as well as identify performance indicators that measure the impact of interactions between pillars to provide a more comprehensive picture of higher education sustainability. Further research is also needed to bridge the gap in the literature and strengthen the multidimensional approach in assessing sustainable higher education performance. Keywords: model, sustainability indicators, higher education, sustainability.
