Abstract

Nowadays, young Catholics are seen as having a more important role in church life. Based on this, each parish has its way of encouraging Catholic Youth to be involved in church life. Therefore, this article aims to get an overview of the involvement of Catholic Youth in church life and the dynamics that occur in Sanggar Emaus. This research uses a qualitative approach with data collection techniques through observation, questionnaires, and interviews. The results showed that the Catholic Youth in St. Peter Kanisius Wonosari Parish who often gather in Sanggar Emaus are not fully involved in church life. Most of them involve themselves only within the scope of the parish church. The church life seen in Young Catholic of Wonosari Parish is more dominant by involving their activities in the field of liturgy and coinonia. Meanwhile, Sanggar Emaus is the centre of involvement of Young Catholics of Wonosari Parish, especially those who live within the city area. The dynamics in Sanggar Emaus are fluid, there are no binding rules, and activities are carried out according to the wishes of young people. Sanggar Emaus can be a model of informal mentoring with a pleasant atmosphere so it is expected to encourage Catholic Youth to play an active role in church life.

Abstract

Basic christian community of St. Philip at the Holy Spirit Parish in Surabaya inhabited by many catholic young people so called catholic young people (Orang Muda Katolik or OMK). Most of the OMK members consist of the students or workers. The busyness of studying and working resulting in many of OMK’s members are not actively involved in the church activities. Most of them rarely and reluctantly participate in the Church activities. They spend most of their holidays and free time with their own friends, and they pay less attention to the Church’s activities. The research was conducted with the aim of identifying factors (motivation) which are supporting the involvement of OMK in the Church activities, especially in St. Philip basic christian community. OMK's involvement in the church activities is rooted in the sacrament of Baptism. Through this sacrament, OMK is called to take part in the five missions of the Church in the world so called Liturgia, Kerygma, Koinonia, Diakonia, Martyria. This research used qualitative methods. Data collection was carried out by using individual interview techniques. There were 8 members of OMK interviewed for the study. All of those OMK’s members live in St. Philip’s basic christian community.The results of the research pointed out that the majority of OMK’s members in the basic christian community were less actively involved in church’s activities. This was due to several factors, including OMK’s activities being too boring, busyness of working and studying, and the lack of support of their parents. The results of research also pointed out there was a small number of OMK’s members in the christian community were actively involved in church activities due to the internal and external motivation.

Abstract

Catechesis must answer to the challengs of era in order to help people experience the presence of God in life which is increasingly complex. This article suggests the use of symbolic language which is creative as a contemporary approach in catechesis, especially for reaching the Catholic youth. Through the narative Catechesis model that has been renewed, researchers want to reveal that symbolic language can touch the inner hearts and as the some time to push the active participation of the youth. By utilising the digital development, this article offers an innovative strategy in preaching the faith teaching, applying the relevant way and interesting to the youth in this era.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the importance of developing Pancasila’s character for prospective Catechist and Catholic Religious Teacher students to minimize the culture of cheating and at the same time to meet the needs of students, namely having superior character. This study uses a qualitative method with a purposive sampling technique, namely an informant selection technique using certain criteria. The data collection technique uses the interview method and in the data collection process, documentation is included as evidence of the implementation of the research. The results show that Pancasila's character is essential for students. One of them, Pancasila becomes a guideline in acting and becomes a noble value that must be preserved which will then become the identity of students. The challenges for students in appreciating the values of Pancasila are mostly coming from within the students themselves and various influences from outside the students themselves. Therefore, the results of the analysis show that Pancasila’s character development is needed for prospective Catechist and Catholic Religious Teacher students. This character development will be a solution to meet the needs of students in having superior character as provisions in their mission as Catechists and Catholic Religious Teachers.

Abstract

This research aims to explain the implementation of pedagogical competency management in the teaching and learning process of teachers at Yayasan Santo Stanislaus Borong. This qualitative study employs in-depth interviews, document analysis, and observations involving five informants: the Foundation Chair, Kindergarten Principal, Elementary School Principal, Junior High School Principal, and Senior High School Principal within Yayasan Santo Stanislaus Borong, East Manggarai Regency, NTT. The findings indicate that the management of pedagogical competencies in the teaching and learning process is well-organized, supported by several factors including collaboration among teachers, effective communication between teachers and students, and support from parents, as well as the professionalism and quality of the teachers.

Abstract

The spirituality of the Brotherhood, Love and Peace aims to produce a comfortable, pleasant, joyful and peaceful life of a community. The main problem of the study is the lack of influence of knowledge and application of spirituality of the Brotherhood, Love and Peace related to the character building of the orphanage boy. The purpose of the study was to analyze relationship between spirituality teaching of the Brotherhood, Love and Peace and the character building of the orphanage boys. The research method used in the study is quantitative. Based on the results of this study, it can be concluded that the majority (46.7%) of respondents understand and appreciate well what is spirituality in general. The results of the study also showed that the majority (66.7%) of respondents understand well the spirituality of brotherhood of love and peace. In addition, the majority (70%) of respondents understand what characters and character education. Finally, the results of data analysis also show that the majority of respondents said there was a positive influence of the Spirituality of the Brotherhood of Love and Peace on the character building of students at the Saint Aloisius orphanage Madiun.

Abstract

Instagram is a social media application that is currently a new world, especially for young people. OMK (Youth Chatolic Organization) of Saint Willibrordus Cepu’s Parish took advantage of the opportunity of this media to be a media for reporting for his organization. This research has to analyze the impact of instagram, toward OMK's involvement in church; social media and instagram; the use of instagram social media of young Catholic parish of Saint Willibrordus Cepu; and the impact of the instagram account of Saint Willibrordus Cepu’s parish for the youth involvement in the life of the Church. This research used a quantitative method through the Google Form service that was conducted in November 2019. Respondent in this study were 52 OMK of Saint Willibrordus Cepu’s Parish. Based on the results of the research, instagram is a photo and video sharing application. The youth of Saint Willibrordus Cepu’s Parish has used instagram as a space to share photos of OMK’s activities. OMK's Instagram account has a positive impact on almost all respondents, among others in terms of activeness, cohesiveness and attractiveness of OMK who are less active to be active in Church life.

Abstract

Pastoral school is a pastoral care, mentoring and faith formation activity for students in Catholic schools. In this mentoring and faith formation, the pastoral school organizes various activities such as religious lessons, catechesis, liturgical activities, deepening of the faith, recollections, retreats, pilgrimages, visits to orphanages, fasting, and group recreation. This research uses qualitative methods. This research was conducted from April 21 to May 5 2020. The total number of respondents was 7 people, with details of 4 respondents from St. Yusuf and 3 respondents from St. Bernadus Junior High School, who is actively involved in pastoral development activities in their respective schools. The results of the research showed that all respondents (100%) were able to explain the meaning of pastoral school as a place for cultivating children's faith in the school environment. All respondents (100%) provided an understanding regarding the importance of developing children's faith through pastoral activities. Regarding the impact of pastoral school on the development of children's faith in Junior High School, the majority of respondents (85.71%) could see the positive impact of pastoral activities on the development of children's faith. However, one respondent (14.28%) stated that pastoral school care had a less significant impact because there were still many children who did not want to be involved in spiritual activities.

Abstract

Instagram is one of the most popular digital social media and is widely used by children to adults. Young Catholics of Saint Paul Parish Bojonegoro use Instagram as a means of communication and interaction with others. This study aims to determine the influence of Instagram of young Catholics of Bojonegoro on involvement in church life. The study used a quantitative method with a random sampling technique. Data collection used Google Form. The respondents numbered 115 people, namely members of the young Catholics of Saint Paul Parish Bojonegoro who were unmarried, and aged between 13-35 years. Based on the results of the study, this Instagram account often uploads content in the form of activities with young Catholics, spiritual activities, liturgical service tasks, and covers of spiritual songs. These posts provide benefits for their followers in obtaining information and inspire them to be more actively involved in Church life.

Abstract

This study uses a qualitative approach to explore the influence of reading the Bible on the development of children's faith. The main objectives of this study are to understand how reading the Bible can influence children's understanding and development of faith, as well as to explore the role of the Bible in shaping their belief in God. Based on the results of data analysis obtained from 7 respondents, it is known that all respondents (100%) stated that faith is a form of strong belief or conviction in God, which is a guideline or regulator in everyday life. This faith functions as a foundation in facing life's challenges and as a spiritual strength in their lives. In addition, this study also reveals children's understanding of the Bible. From the results of the study, 7 respondents (100%) stated that they view the Bible as a guideline for life, especially in the context of family life. Respondents see the Bible not only as a collection of teachings or stories, but as a source of values ​​and guidance in living a harmonious and loving family life. In essence, the Bible is indeed a guideline for life for Catholics. Through reading and deep understanding of the Bible, these children can absorb teachings that lead to the development of attitudes of love, empathy, and concern for others. In these teachings, Christ's love for humanity is the main value that inspires them to live their lives with understanding and love for God and others. Overall, this study aims to describe how reading the Holy Bible can play an important role in shaping and developing children's faith, as well as strengthening their understanding of the values ​​of life taught in religious teachings.
