Abstract

Abstract

Ketapang (Terminalia catappa L.) is a plant that belongs to the Combretaceae family which is spread in tropical countries, including Indonesia. Ketapang leaves (Terminalia catappa L.) contains flavonoid compounds which function as antioxidants. The purpose of this study was to determine the antioxidant activity of ketapang leaf extract (Terminalia catappa L.) using the β-carotene bleaching method. The extract was obtained through the maceration method, then the yield percentage was 20.25%. Phytochemical screening test was carried out identifiy chemical compounds and obtained namely alkaloids, flavanoids, tannins, saponins, and steroids. Antioxidant activity was performed using UV-Vis spectrophotometry with a wavelength of 538 nm. The results showed that the antioxidant activity of ketapang leaf extract (Terminalia catappa L.) of 56.5% was an intermediate antioxidant (moderate), then in a standard solution of quercetin has a strong antioxidant activity of 72.3%. Several representatives of the genus Syzygium have been proposed to possess chemical compounds, nutraceutical values, and biological activities. In particular, previous studies have emphasized the abundance of bioactive chemicals, including flavonoids, phenolic acids, triterpenoids, and volatile compounds. The tectoquinone compound isolated from Syzygium oblanceolatum (C.B. Rob.) Merr based on its chemical structure is a substituted anthraquinone, namely 2-methylanthraquinone. This study aims to determine the Tectoquinone compound as an α-glucosidase inhibitor and determine the IC50 value of the tectoquinone compound. The method of this research was an α-glucosidase inhibition test using ELISA reader instrument by measuring the absorbance at the maximum wavelength of 405 nm using an acarbose comparator. The results of the α-glucosidase inhibition test of the akarbosa comparator had an IC50 value of 0.258 μg/mL and the IC50 value of the tectoquinone compound was 155.184 μg/mL.

Abstract

Moisturizers are very popular dermatological products prescribed because they have been proven effective for preventing and treating a variety of dermatological conditions. Moisturizer products have a vital role for skin health to ensure the skin remains hydrated for both normal and dry skin by increasing the water content in the stratum corneum, so that it is able to moisturize the skin. Avocado fruit (Persea americana Mill) can hydrate the skin because it contains chemicals such as vitamin A, vitamin E, fat, carbohydrates, folic acid and protein. This research aims to formulate and interpret the physical stability of avocado ethanol extract body cream preparations as a moisturizer. This type of research is laboratory experimental. The stages of this research began with extraction, formulation, and ended with evaluation of body cream preparations. This research obtained results that body cream preparations can be formulated as moisturizers by mixing the emulsion form and gel form of the formula ingredients with the effective concentration of carbopol 940 in the body cream preparation of avocado fruit ethanol extract being 0.7% (Formula 2) because this concentration is higher. physically stable and more popular with the panelists. This research can be concluded that the pH and homogeneity tests show that all formulas are stable, the viscosity test shows that there is instability due to storage temperature in formula 3, the spreadability and stickiness tests show that formula 1 is unstable to changes in storage temperature, the hedonic test shows that the panelists prefer the formula 2, and moisturizing effectiveness testing shows formula 3 provides the greatest moisturizing effect.
