Abstract

Kaffir lime peel extract (Citrus hystrix DC.) contains flavonoids and alkaloids still rarely used as medicine; however, its toxicity is lack of the research until now. The research aimed to determine the effects of toxicity in the extracts by Brine Shrimp Lethality test (BSLT). The extraction used maceration and infusion. The former used ethanol of 70% with the thick extract of 3.81 mg and the letter used aquadest with the dried extract of 2.77 mg. The screening-was conducted by observing the color change in the extract and obtained the toxicity effects at the concentration of 1 ppm, 3 ppm, 5 ppm, 7 ppm, and 9 ppm by obtaining LC50 values for both the ethanol extract of 0.98 ppm and water extract of 1.20 ppm. The results showed that the water and ethanol extracts of kaffir lime peel had toxic properties.

Abstract

Sampel yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah tanaman kedondong laut (Nothopanax fructicosum (L.) Miq) yang termasuk dalam famili Araliaceae. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui aktivitas antioksidan ekstrak daun kedondong laut (Nothopanax fructicosum (L.) Miq) dengan metode peredaman radikal bebas DPPH. Ekstrak daun kedondong laut (Nothopanax fructicosum (L.) Miq), diekstraksi dengan cara ekstraksi bertingkat dengan menggunakan pelarut n-Heksan, etil asetat, dan etanol 96% dengan persen rendamen untuk pelarut n-Heksan 1,504 % etil asetat 2,784 %, etanol 3,698 %. Selanjutnya dari masing-masing ekstrak diidentifikasi kandungan kimia menggunakan KLT dengan fase gerak n-Heksan: Etil asetat (8:2) dan fase diam silika gel 60 F254. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa masing-masing ekstrak daun kedondong laut (Nothopanax fructicosum (L.) Miq memiliki aktivitas antioksidan dengan nilai IC50 ekstrak n-Heksan yaitu 33,839 µg/mL antioksidan kuat (10-50 µg/mL), ekstrak etil asetat yaitu 12,604 µg/mL antiokisdan kuat (10-50µg/mL) dan ekstrak etanol yaitu 2,222 µg/mL antioksidan sangat kuat (< 10 µg/mL). Ekstrak etanol daun kedondong laut (Nothopanax fructicosum (L.) Miq) memiliki daya antioksidan lebih tinggi dibanding ekstrak n-Heksan dan Etil Asetat.

Abstract

The plants of Asteraceae family have secondary metabolite compounds, namely flavonoids, saponins, tannins, essential oils, polyphenols, and terpenoids. The research aimed to compare saponin content on stems and leaves of Asteraceae family plants using gravimetry methods. Besides, it compares saponin content using colorimetry methods based on different solvents. The research used literature review methods. The data search was done through the database using a search engine such as Google Scholar and PubMed. By gravimetry method, Vernonia amygdalina plant contained the highest saponin content of 7.92±0.46% on the leaf; on the stem, Helianthus Annuus L. plant carried the highest saponin content of 7.74±2.80%. Meanwhile, by colorimetry method, the ethyl acetate extract of Hypochaeris radicata L. plant contained the highest saponin on the leaf showing the rate of 16. 67±0.01 mg DE/100 g.

Abstract

Skin infections are one of the health problems that often occur in tropical countries which can be caused by several microorganisms such as bacteria, parasites, viruses, and fungi. One of the plants that can be used to treat skin infections caused by bacteria is the Chinese ketepeng leaf (Cassia alata L.), which contains antibacterial compounds. The purpose of this study was to determine the antibacterial activity of the ethanolic extract of the leaves of Chinese ketepeng (Cassia alata L.) against several bacteria that cause skin infections. Chinese ketepeng leaf simplicia was extracted by maceration method and then evaporated to obtain a thick extract. Then an antibacterial screening test was carried out, testing the value of the Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC), Minimum Kill Concentration (KBM) with variations in the concentration of each test of 0.5%, 0.1%, 0.2%, 0.4%, 0, 8%, 1.6%, 3.2%, 6.4%, and 12.8%, and the antibacterial activity test with varying concentrations of 5%, 10%, and 20% against several bacteria, namely Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Propionibacterium acnes. Based on the results, the MIC values ​​for Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa were 1.6%, and Propionibacterium acnes was 0.4%. The MBC value for Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Propionibacterium acnes is 3.2%, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa is 6.4%. And the antibacterial activity test obtained the largest diameter of the inhibition zone at the optimum concentration of 20% on the test bacteria. Based on this research, the ethanolic extract of the leaves of the Chinese ketepeng (Cassia alata L.) has potential as an antibacterial.

Abstract

Makassar City is one of the largest cities in the eastern region of Indonesia with the lifestyle of its society having undergone changes, starting from consuming instant food, lack of movement, and rarely exercising. So that, there is an increase in non-infectious diseases. People in the city of Makassar use traditional medicinal plants in accordance with the changing trend of people who return to nature "back to the nature". Yhe purpose of this study, we wanted to find out how the use and the process and the application of traditional medicine regarding its types, morphology, and its properties in Makassar society. Furthermore, as well as to get the suitability of scientific data by community use. The research method used was a descriptive survey with a qualitative approach, a combination method of purposive sampling and snowball sampling was used in determining the sample, the data was collected by direct observation and in-depth interviews. The results of research that have been carried out obtained about 47 types of plants, the part of the plant that used often by the community is leaves. And there are also the rhizomes, bark, fruit skin, stems, fruit, tubers, seeds, and herbs. Moreover, the processing of traditional medicine was boiled, brewed, pounded, squeezed, and without processing, while the application of use is by drinking, rubbing on the affected area, smearing, patching, and consume immediately. Based on data from various literature, some medicinal plants that have been used by society have scientific evidence as to their activities. The people of Makassar city use traditional medicinal plants in the treatment of non-infectious diseases and also there is scientific evidence on some plants that supports the use of traditional medicines by society.

Abstract

Inflammation is the body's normal response to injury or tissue damage which is characterized by heat (calor), pain (dolor), swelling (tumor) and redness (rubor). Matoa leaves contain flavonoid compounds which have anti-inflammatory properties. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect anti-inflammatory of the ethanol extract of matoa leaves (Pometia Pinnata J.R Forst & G. Forst) in male rats (Rattus norvegicus). This study used 25 rat test animals which were divided into 5 treatment groups, group I negative control in the form of 1% Na CMC suspension, group II positive control in the form of diclofenac sodium suspension, groups III, IV and V were given a suspension of ethanol extract of matoa leaves with concentrations of 200 mg/kgBB, 400 mg/kgBB and 800 mg/kgBB. Measurements were made every 1 hour after administration of a comparison or test extract for 6 hours and then recorded. The results showed that the ethanol extract of matoa leaves had the potential as an anti-inflammatory candidate with the most effective dose in reducing the volume and diameter of edema was a dose of 400 mg/kgBB.

Abstract

Kemiri (Aleurites moluccana) adalah tanaman yang memiliki berbagai macam manfaat. Salah satu bagian tanamannya adalah daun. Daun kemiri diketahui memiliki sifat analgesik, antivirus danantibakteri yang dapat membantu meningkatkan sistem kekebalan tubuh, sedangkan ekstrak etanoldaunnya memiliki efek hipolipidemik yang dapatmengurangi penyerapan protein di dalam usus.Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui toksisitas dari daun kemiri dengan menggunakan metodeBrine Shrimp Lethality Test (BSLT). Penelitian ini diawali dengan melakukan ekstraksi daun kemirimenggunakan pelarut etanol 96% dengan metode maserasi kemudian dilakukan skrining kromatografi lapis tipis yang menunjukkan sampel batang kayu wole woe mengandung senyawa alkaloid, flavonoid, saponin dan triterpenoid. Pengujian toksisitas ekstrak daun kemiri terhadap larva Artemia salina Leach dibagi menjadi 5 kelompok uji yaitu 4 kelompok perlakuan (konsentrasi 5 ppm, 10 ppm, 20 ppm, dan 50 ppm)dan 1 kelompok kontrol atau pembanding (air laut).Masing-masing konsentrasi dibuat dalam 3 vial yang dimasukkan 10 ekor larva Artemia salina Leach. Pengamatan dilakukan dengan melihatkematian larva Artemia salina Leach setelah perlakuan selama 24 jam. Hasil penelitian dapat dilihat melalui analisa probit dengan menghitung nilai LC50. Nilai LC50 dari ekstrak daun kemiri adalah 37,670 µg/mL (sangat toksik).

Abstract

The isolation and identification of flavonoid compounds from the ethanol extract of purple passion fruit peel (Passiflora edulis Sims) has been carried out. The aims of this research was to determine the class of flavonoid compounds from the ethanol extract of purple passion fruit peel (Passiflora edulis Sims). About 300 grams was extracted using maceration method with 96% ethanol produces dry 33.127 grams. Preliminary identification was performed using thin layer chromatography method with eluent n-hexane: acetone (8:2), then sprayed with AlCl3 specific reagent. Isolation was done using vacum liquid chromatography method with eluent n-hexane : acetone (100:0, 90:10, 80:20, 70:30, 60:40,50:50, 40:60, 30:70, 20: 80, 10:90, 0:100). The purity was tested using two-dimensional TLC and multi-eluent TLC methods. This research obtained a pure isolate namely isolate 4. The isolate were then identified using UV-Vis spectroscopy showed absorption at a wavelength of 230 nm and 270 nm. Infrared spectroscopy showed absorbance at wave number 3483.44 cm-1 showed possibility of O-H group, reinforced the wave number 1653.00 cm-1 which indicates the possibility of a C=C group, the wave number 1238.30 cm-1 showed possibility the C-O, the wave number 808.17 cm-1 which indicates the possibility of a C-H group, as well as identification using specific reagents. The above observations showed that the isolate is a compound of the flavonoid group.

Abstract

The isolation and identification of flavonoid compounds of dengen leaves (Dillenia serrata Thunb.) has been carried out. The aim of this research was to determine the group of flavonoid compounds from the Dengen Leaves extract (Dillenia serrata Thunb.). A sample of 500 grams was macerated with ethanol solvent to produce 53.369 grams of dry extract with a yield value of 10.673%. The extract was spotted on the TLC plate and then eluted with n-hexane : acetone (7:3), then sprayed with citroborate. The ethanol extract was then isolated using KCV method with the eluent ratio nhexane : acetone (10:0, 9:1, 8:2, 7:3, 6:4, 5:5, 4:6, 3:7, 2: 8, 1:9, 0:10) then tested by thin layer chromatography. The fractionation results were isolated by TLC using n-hexane: acetone (7:3) followed by testing the purity of the isolate using multi-eluent TLC and two-dimensional TLC to see the purity of the compound/isolate. Isolates were identified by interpretation of UV-Vis spectrophotometer data obtained maximum wavelengths of 223 nm and 286 nm and by interpretation of FTIR data it was found that there was an absorption band at wave number 3456.44 indicating O-H groups, at absorption of 1653.00 indicating C=O (ketones), at absorption 1093.64 showed a C-O group, and at absorption 802.39 showed a C-H group and obtained color screening data, TLC screening, and UV-Vis and FTIR spectrophotometric identification as a feature of the presence of flavonoid compounds.

Abstract

Dengen fruit juice (Dillernia serrata) is a type of medicinal plant that is used as an anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antimicrobial, antitumor, anti-ulcer, immunoprevention, cancer chemoprevention, medicine for thrush, vomiting blood, fever, and wound medicine because it contains polyphenolic compounds, such as tannins. and flavonoids. This study aims to interpret the total flavonoid content of dengen fruit (Dillenia serrata) using the UV-VIS spectrophotometry method. This type of research is laboratory experimental using a spectrophotometer method based on the determination of extract levels and quarcetin standards. The stages of this research began with sample preparation, qualitative testing of flavonoid compounds, and ended with the determination of total flavonoid content of the sample and quarcetin standard. This study obtained the results that the positive dengen fruit extract contained flavonoids based on the results of identification using wilstater reagents, this sample also tested positive for flavonoids based on the TLC test using AlCl3 reagents and citroborate with an Rf value of 0.636, and on the quantitative test results using extract UV-VIS spectrophotometry Dengen fruit has a percentage of flavonoids of 19.355%.
