Abstract

Endothelial dysfunction is experienced in hemodialysis patients, characterized by stiffness in the blood vessel walls resulting in decreased peripheral blood flow. The research objective was to determine the effect of immersion in CO2 water on peripheral blood flow changes. Experimental design with 30 patients divided into two groups; 18 patients immersed their feet in CO2 water (1,300 ppm) at 37-38°C and 12 patients were immersed in fresh water at 36-37°C performed 2-3 times per week for four weeks, measurement of peripheral blood flow using Laser Doppler Flowmetry on day 1 and 28. Peripheral blood flow from the CO2 water immersion group decreased from 12,443 mL/minute to 11,677 mL/minute (decreased by 0.766 mL/minute), while the freshwater immersion group decreased from 8,471 mL/minute to 6,776 mL/minute (decreased by 1,695 mL/min). Immersion in CO2 water tends to reduce peripheral blood flow inhibition more than immersion in fresh water in hemodialysis patients.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a world public health problem. This study aims to determine the relationship between obesity and the incidence of type 2 diabetes mellitus in Indonesia. A systematic review and meta-analysis were carried out on case control studies published in the google scholar database. Data processed using RevMan 5.4. Pooled odds ratio (OR) is calculated by fixed effect models. Meta-analysis results showed that there was a significant relationship between obesity and the incidence of type 2 diabetes mellitus (p = 0.00001, OR 4.99, 95% CI 3.58-6.96)). There is a significant relationship between obesity and the incidence of type 2 diabetes mellitus. Obese people have a 4.99 times greater risk of suffering from type 2 diabetes mellitus in the case group than the control group. The public is expected to manage their obesity so that they can reduce the risk of suffering from diabetes mellitus

Abstract

Based on current research, lack of micronutrients, especially Vitamin D, is thought to be associated with metabolic disorders. A good understanding of vitamin D deficiency as a risk factor for metabolic disorders is the basis for establishing policies and programs. This study aimed to determine the relationship between vitamin D and metabolic syndrome (MetS) and its parameters. Search for articles in literature review through Scientdirect, PubMed, Medline, and Google Scholar were publication periods between 2010-2019. Vitamin D/serum 25 (OH) D levels is associated with obesity, hypertention, glycemia index but studies relating vitamin D deficiency and lipid profiles have not shown consistent results. Most of research found association of Vitamin D and Metabolic Syndrome (MetS). Based on the review, most of the study results indicate that Vitamin D is associated with parameters in the metabolic syndrome, so that Vitamin D could be a new risk factor for MetS
