Abstract

This study aims to describe the errors made by students in solving fractional arithmetic operations based on Kastolan theory. This type of research is a qualitative research with a descriptive approach. Data collection techniques used are tests and interview guidelines. The test is in the form of a description. The test is given to class VIII students at one of the SMP Negeri in the Selayar Island Regency totaling 23 students, then 3 students were taken as research subjects. The criteria for selecting research subjects were to have the most and varied errors. The data analysis technique used is data reduction, data presentation and conclusion drawing. The errors analyzed were categorized using the Kastolan error criteria which consisted of three types of errors. Based on the data from the research and discussion, it can be concluded that students made conceptual errors, procedural errors and technical errors. The most dominant type of error made by students is conceptual error.

Abstract

This research aimed to describe the misconception of class VIII students to solving questions in algebra material. To identify the occurrence of misconceptions in this study, using CRI (Certaninty of Respon Index) was a measure the level of confidence / certainty of respondent in answering each question (problem) given. The instrument data collection technique used was a diagnostic test with CRI criteria and interview. The research result concluded that several types of misconception indetified were (1) Student experienced concept misconception related to definition of variableand coefficient, (2) Student experienced count misconception related to the operation of like terms, (3) Student experienced sign misconception related to constant and (4) Student experienced translation misconception related to coefficient.

Abstract

This research aims to describe students' thinking processes in solving trigonometry problems in terms of reflective and impulsive cognitive styles. It is a descriptive study with a quantitative and qualitative approach. The subjects in this research were four students from the 11th grade of a high school, two students in each group representing the reflective and impulsive cognitive styles based on their results in the trigonometry problem-solving test. Data were collected through tests and interviews. The instruments used for data collection included trigonometry problem-solving tests, MFFT cognitive style tests, and interview guidelines. The results of this research indicate that: (1) Students with a reflective cognitive style and high scores in the trigonometry problem-solving test (SRT)tend to undergo an assimilation process, reaching equilibrium at each stage of problem-solving. (2) Students with an impulsive cognitive style and high scores in the trigonometry problem-solving test (SIT) also experience an assimilation process, reaching equilibrium, but undergo accommodation during the stage of planning problem-solving strategies. (3) Students with both reflective and impulsive cognitive styles and low scores in the trigonometry problem-solving test (SRR and SIR) tend to be in a state of disequilibrium, unable to integrate the existing schemes in their minds with their knowledge.

Abstract

This research aims to know the effect of school climate on Indonesian Students’ mathematical literacy skills based on PISA 2018. This research is a causal-comparative research. The population in this research were all 12098 Indonesian students who took part in the 2018 PISA survey. The data was collected by literature study technique. The data were analyzed with regression analysis. The results showed that there was a significant effect between the variables of bullying, student truancy and lateness, competition, co-operation, and sense of belonging at school separately on mathematical literacy skills. As for the variables of teacher behavior and parental participation, both separately do not have a significant effect on mathematical literacy skills. The school climate as a whole has a significant effect on Indonesian students’ mathematical literacy skills based on PISA 2018.

This study aims to determine the effect of the application of Geogebra integration PowerPoint 365 on mathematical representation ability in class XII. This research is pre-ecperiment with quantitative approach with techniques sampling is cluster random sampling. Data collection was carried using test result of mathematical representation ability (pretest and posttest), student quistionnaire responses, and observation sheets of student actvities. The data analysis technique used is descriptive and inferential statistical analysis. The result of descriptive statistical analysis showed: (1) the average pretest result were 47,78 (low category). The average posttest result were 88,89 (high category), (2) the posttest result show that classical completeness is achived 100%, (3) the average normalized gain is 0,8 (high category), (4) the average percentage of activity students by 90,5% (very active), (5) the average percentage of students quistionnaire responses by 92% (very good). The result of inferential statistic analysis show: (1) the average value of students tought using Geogebra integration PowerPoint 365 was greater than 70, (2) the normalized gain average value was greater than 0,3 (medium category), (3) the average classical completeness greater than 85%. In general it can be concluded that implementation Geogebra integration PowerPoint 365 has an effect on student mathematical representation ability.

Abstract

This research is a descriptive research with qualitative approach which aims to describe Junior High School students’ geometry understanding on quadrilateral based on van Hiele Theory and observed from students’ cognitive style. Subjects in this study were Junior High School students who were selected based on GEFT test i.e. 1 student who has Field Dependent cognitive style and 1 student who has Field Independent cognitive style. Then, subject undertook a geometry understanding test on quadrilateral material and conducted interviews to obtain data of students’ geometric understanding on quadrilateral. Subjects’ geometry understanding were described by van Hiele theory that contained van Hiele level of geometry understanding i.e. visualization, analysis, abstraction, formal deduction, and rigor. The result of this study show that there are differences in geometry understanding between student with Field Dependent cognitive style and student with Field Independent cognitive style. Student with Field Independent cognitive style has geometry understanding on quadrilateral better at each level of geometry understanding that had been achieved and was at higher level than student with Field Dependent cognitive style. Student with Field Independent cognitive style has reached the initial stage of formal deduction, while student with Field Dependent cogitive style still is at analysis level.

Abstract

This study aims to explore geometric ideas in traditional food called Tumpi-Tumpi, a typical Bugis Makassar cuisine, and to develop problem-solving abilities using the Iceberg Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) model. This study used a qualitative study with descriptive exploration. Data was collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. Based on the design of Miles and Huberman, the data analysis technique consisted of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion/verification. According to data collection results, the traditional Bugis-Makassar cuisine Tumpi-Tumpi contains ethnic mathematical components (geometrical concepts), namely, the plane figure of an equilateral triangle, and is used to solve mathematical problems. The Iceberg RME math technique utilized "the model of" and "the model for" to determine an equilateral triangle's features, area formula, and perimeter. Iceberg-based ethnomathematics collaboration may enhance high school student's interest in learning.
