Abstract

Learning mathematics during the pandemic has many challenges such as internet constraints, be it network quality or limited internet quota owned by students or students. This research uses a sequential explanatory design to investigate the effectiveness of the combined use of WhatApp (WA) and Google Classroom (GC) in learning mathematics, especially in the Elementary Algebra course. The sampling technique used was simple random sampling and the selected class was class A which is one of the classes from one of the universities in South Sulawesi. Related to qualitative data, surveys and interviews were conducted to find out how students respond to the implementation of the use of the two applications and why the use of the two applications is effective / ineffective in mathematics learning. The results showed that the mean of the class scores is 80.12 with a standard deviation of 1.85. Based on inferential analysis, combination of WA and GC in learning mathematics in the Elementary Algebra course was effective. In addition, most students gave positive responses. Based on students' perspectives, the ease of access, features of both applications and ease of use are the reasons for the success of mathematics learning using WA and GC.

Abstract

This study aims to describe students' difficulties in solving exponential problems in terms of student learning styles. The type of research used is qualitative research. There are 6 research subjects, namely two students with visual learning style, two students with auditory learning style, and two students with kinesthetic learning style. Data collection techniques in this study are questionnaires, tests and interviews. The instruments used are learning style questionnaires, exponential mathematical ability tests, and interviews. The results showed that students with visual learning styles had fewer difficulties in understanding concepts, applying principles and stages of arithmetic operations. Students with auditory learning style have more difficulty in understanding concepts, applying principles and stages of arithmetic operations. Students with kinesthetic learning style have less difficulty in understanding concepts while more difficulties in applying the principles and stages of arithmetic operations.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of using a realistic mathematical approach to the Higher Order Thinking Skill (HOTS) of SMA Negeri 2 Majene (SMAN 2 Majene), Indonesia. The subjects of this research were four students of class XI at SMAN 2 Majene. This research used a descriptive qualitative method. The instrument used was PISA-based HOTS questions developed based on a realistic mathematical approach to test students' HOTS. The average score obtained by students in answering test questions ranged from 61-80. It was concluded that the HOTS of SMA Negeri 2 Majene students were good. It showed that the realistic mathematics education effectively increased students' HOTS.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the application of MURDER collaborative model (Mood, Understand, Recall, Detect, Expand, and Review) on student learning outcomes, activities, and responses in learning mathematics in class X. This research is pre-experiment with quantitative approach with techniques sampling is cluster random sampling. Data collection was carried out using observation sheets of implementation of learning, test results of learning (pretest and posttest), observation sheets of student activities, and student questionnaire responses. The data analysis technique used is descriptive and inferential statistical analysis. The results of descriptive statistical analysis showed: (1) the average of learning achievement was 3,73 (well implemented), (2) the average pretest results were 35 (very low category). The average posttest results was 85 (high category), (3) the posttest results show that classical completeness is achieved 94% (4) the average normalized gain is 0,77 (high category), (5) the average percentage of activity students by 90% (very active) (6) the average percentage of students who gave positive response 89%. The results of inferential statistics analysis show: (1) the average value of students taught using collaborative MURDER model was greater than 70, (2) the normalized gain average value was greater than 0,3 (medium category), (3) the average classical completeness greater than 80%. In general it can be concluded that implementation MURDER collaborative model has an effect on students mathematics learning outcomes, activities, and responses.

Abstract

This research is to determine the effectiveness of implementation LAPS-Heuristic learning model in students grade VIII one ofSMP Negeri at Wajo regency with criteria, procedural knowledge, student activities and student responses.. The data were collected using initial knowledge test (pretest) at the first meeting and procedural knowledge test (posttest) at the final meeting, learning feasibility observation sheets, student activity observation sheets, and student’s response questionnaire.Research result descriptively obtained 1) Improvement of learning achievement in terms of normalized gain score obtained an average 0.6704 with standard deviation 0.21822, 2) Learning feasibility was done very well with average 3.85, 3) The results of student activity observation is in average percentage 95%, and 4) The increase of student’s procedural knowledge is reviewed through normalized gain score 0.6704 is in the medium category. Inferentially obtained 1) Hypothesis test for procedural knowledge obtained value of ttable = 2.080 with value α = 0,05 and tcount = 20,761, and 2) Hypothesis test for normalized gain obtained tcount= 14,409. Based on the results, LAPS-Heuristic learning model is effective to implement in mathematics learning on the subject of tangent line to two circles.

Abstract

This study is a qualitative study that aims to investigate description of analysis results the students’ higher order thinking skill in mathematics problem solving based on Anderson taxonomy. The descriptions were obtained by analysis the test results of students' higher order thinking skill in mathematics problem solving. The description is also supported by interview data after the test was conducted. Data validation technique using time triangulation is by conducting interviews to find the suitability of data sourced from the same problem at different times. Data analysis technique using data analysis steps according to Miles and Hubberman. This study conducted in SMAN 1 Mamuju with the number of subjects are 2 people that selected using by purposive sampling technique. The results of the study indicate that: (1)students’ higher order thinking skills who follow guidance of OSN Mathematics in mathematics problem solving based on Anderson’s taxonomy in analyzing category(C4) involving skills in understanding(C2) and applying(C3); evaluate category(C5) involving skills in understanding(C2), applying(C3) and analyzing(C4); while the creating category(C5) involving skill in analyzing (C4), (2) students’ higher order thinking of students who don’t follow guidance of OSN Mathematics in mathematics problem solving towards on Anderson's taxonomy in analyzing category(C4), that is not able to analyzing well because not able to understanding(C2) so mistaken in interpretation(C3); evaluating category(C5) involving skills in understanding(C2) and analyzing(C4); while creating category can’t be identified.
