Abstract

This research is a qualitative research, it amis to describe the students’ difficulties in solving three-dimensional problems on the flat-side material. By using purposive sampling technique, then the subjects in this research were 3 students on grade VIII, that is subject KF, subject KK, subject KO and subject KP. For data collection, the instruments used are diagnostic test and interviews. The results showed that (1) Subject KF having facts difficulty relating to the inability to interpret the final results obtained; identify examples and non-example of the concept and an inability to assert concepts, inability to further identify the subject seen from an inability to answer correctly questions provided. The inability of the subject confirms looks of doubt in giving the reasons selecting and deselecting the image. Subject KK also have difficulty in distinguishing geometrical geometrical prism and pyramid; (3) Subject KO having operating difficulty. This is evident from the subject mistake in conducting the operation. Subject KO wrong in doing operations related to the sequence of operations and how to solve equations using division; and (4) Subject KP having principle difficulty. This is evident from the inability of the subject determines the appropriate formula with the given problem. Subject KP capable of memorizing formulas but can not adjust the formula to the problem.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness and comparative effectiveness of problem-based learning models assisted with audio-visual media and direct learning models in terms of understanding mathematical concepts of students of SMP Negeri 3 Sengkang. This type of study is a pseudo-experiment with an unbalanced pretest-posttest control group design. The population in this study were students of grade VIII SMP Negeri 3 Sengkang (Semester II) as many as 5 classes. Sampling using cluster random sampling techniques namely Class VIII - A and Class VIII-C involved as many as 48 people as experimental class and control class. The instruments used in this study are test instruments and non-test instruments that have been validated by mathematics education lecturers with valid and useful results. The results showed that: (1) Learning by applying problem-based learning model assisted by audio-visual media is effective in terms of understanding mathematical concepts of students with an average of studentunderstanding of the concept of problem-based learning model assisted by audio-visual media of 82.17 with a very high category and achieve classical completion of 83%, (2) Learning with direct learning model is less effective in terms of understanding mathematical concepts of students with an average understanding of the concept of students with direct learning model of 62.00 with the medium category and did not achieve a classical completion of 24%, (3) problem-based learning model assisted by audio- visual media is more effectively applied than direct learning model in terms of understanding mathematical concepts.

Abstract

This research is classroom action research which aims to increase motivation to learn mathematics in students of Class XII IPA.1 Barru 3 Public High School through problem posing learning. The research subjects were students of class XII IPA.1 30 SMA 3 Barru Academic Year 2017/2018 amounted to 30 people consisting of 7 men and 23 women. The implementation of this study consisted of two cycles. Data collection techniques are observation, questionnaire and giving test of learning outcomes to each research subject. The research data is in the form of student learning motivation data and student learning outcomes data. The results showed that: (1) student activities in mathematics learning experienced an increase from the first cycle with an average of 65%, increased to 76.60% in the second cycle, there was an increase of 11.60% or from the sufficient category to be good, (2) student learning motivation has increased from cycle I to cycle II, for the level of attention there is an increase of 6.33%, for the level of relevance there is an increase of 14.42%, for the level of confidence there is an increase of 5.50%, and for the level of satisfaction there an increase of 2.56%, and (3) student learning outcomes in mathematics learning experienced an increase from cycle I, classical learning completeness from 14 students (46.67%) to 25 students (83.33%) in cycle II. The results of the study show that learning with a problem posing approach can increase student motivation so that teachers are expected to be able to apply the problem posing model as a variation in mathematics learning.

Abstract

This research aims to find out the description of self-regulation, self-efficacy, creative thinking ability, and mathematics learning outcomes; direct positive effects of self-regulation and self-efficacy towards creative thinking ability; direct positive effects of self-regulation, self-efficacy, and creative thinking ability towards mathematics learning outcomes; and indirect positive effects of self-regulation and self-efficacy towards mathematics learning outcomes through creative thinking ability. The population of this study are students grade 10th MIA in Senior High School in Mengkendek, Tana Toraja. The sampling technique in this study was cluster random sampling, so the sample is 122 students from SMA Negeri in Senior High School in Mengkendek, Tana Toraja. The data was collected using questionnaire and test, then analyzed using descriptive statistics and path analysis. The results of the study show that self-regulation and self-efficacy of students are in the medium category, while the creative thinking ability and students' mathematics learning outcomes are still relatively low. The lack of creative thinking abilities are approved by self-regulation and self-efficacy, while the lack of students mathematics learning outcomes are approved by self-regulation. Meanwhile, the creative thinking ability has not effects towards mathematics learning outcomes, so self-regulation and self-efficacy also not have effects towards mathematics learning outcomes through creative thinking ability.

Abstract

Mathematical thinking ability, particularly the high level of mathematical thinking (high-order mathematical thinking) badly needed by students in order to make students able to confront changes in circumstances or challenges they have in life is always developing. This study aims to describe the mathematical analysis of the critical thinking ability of students in SMA Negeri 5 Wajo. This research was qualitative with the descriptive approach. The subject in this study using a XII IPA 1 grade in SMA Negeri 5 Wajo reviewed from an initial capability that add up to 3 people. The subject is taken using the test ability early, then the subject is given a test of mathematical and critical thinking abilities were interviewed. Test data of mathematical and critical thinking abilities interview each of the subject is described. On the analysis of the data it can be concluded that the ability of critical thinking, analysis of the mathematical ability of students beginning by using Graded Response Model (GRM) noted that the ability of the initial of the high, medium and low indicating the same mathematics critical thinking ability in stages an average between 1,00 to -1,00

Abstract

This study aims to determine: (1) the types of errors, (2) the level of error categories, and (3) the causes of students making mistakes in solving problems of rank and root form based on Watson's criteria in terms of gender differences. The type of research used is descriptive research with a qualitative approach. There are six research subjects, namely three male students and three female students. The instruments used in data collection were test instruments and interview guidelines. The results showed that male students tended to make errors in the response level conflict with a fairly high error category where students had tried to solve the problem but students did not understand the concept of working on the problem so they failed to get the right conclusion. In addition, students only write the final answer without being accompanied by a clear reason or step for solving it because students do not know the right way to work on the problem. Meanwhile, female students tend to make mistakes in the skill hierarchy problem with the small error category where students lack the skills to calculate some arithmetic operations contained in the problem solving step and tend make mistakes other than the seven Watson categories with the small error category where students do not answer questions because students do not know the steps. solution that must be used in the work because students rarely work on problems with different forms.
