Abstract

This article discusses the relationship between the Kingdom of God and the Industrial Revolution, focusing on justice for marginalized people, as explained in the parable of Matthew 20:1-16. The Kingdom of God, which is more than just a concept of heaven, is rooted in God's governance that involves social justice and grace for all humanity, including the marginalized. This study aims to explore how Jesus' teachings about the Kingdom of God can inspire an understanding of social justice, particularly for marginalized groups, and how these teachings can be applied in the context of the Industrial Revolution and modern social life. The research uses a qualitative approach with a literature review method, analyzing theological references and biblical texts, especially Matthew 20:1-16, and comparing them with the social and economic conditions during Jesus' time and the Industrial Revolution. The findings show that the Kingdom of God, as taught by Jesus, speaks not only about personal salvation but also about social justice that emphasizes grace and equality. Jesus challenged the social norms of His time by teaching that in the Kingdom of God, all people, regardless of their status or occupation, are treated justly and with compassion.   Contribution: This article contributes by introducing the relationship between Jesus' teachings on the Kingdom of God and the concept of social justice, which is relevant to both the Industrial Revolution and modern life. Through the analysis of Matthew 20:1-16, the article highlights how the principles of the Kingdom of God, such as equality and compassion, can be applied to address social injustices. This concept offers new insights into how Christian teachings can tackle social issues, particularly the marginalization of certain groups.

Abstract

The concept of death has been a subject of human contemplation across various religious and philosophical traditions. Both Islam and Christianity provide their followers with distinct interpretations of death, offering perspectives on the afterlife and how death should be approached. This study aims to compare the understanding of death in Islam and Christianity, exploring theological differences and similarities between the two religions. Using a qualitative approach through literature review, the research examines religious texts, scholarly articles, and other sources to analyze how death is perceived and how each religion encourages its followers to prepare for it. The findings reveal that while both religions view death as a transition to the afterlife, Islam focuses on the journey to the barzakh and ultimate judgment, while Christianity emphasizes salvation through faith in Jesus Christ and eternal life with God. This comparative study provides deeper insight into how both religions shape their followers’ views on mortality and the afterlife.   Contribution: This study contributes to the understanding of how Islamic and Christian teachings on death influence the behavior and attitudes of their followers toward life and mortality. It provides a framework for interfaith discussions on the spiritual implications of death and afterlife.

Abstract

Christian religious education within the family plays a crucial role in shaping the spiritual, moral, and ethical character of children. One of the fundamental principles in Christian family education is the Shema, found in Deuteronomy 6:4–9, which emphasizes loving God with all one’s heart, soul, and strength. The Shema not only provides a foundation for a personal relationship with God but also shapes the moral character of children through the application of biblical principles in everyday life. This study aims to examine how the teachings of Shema can be applied in Christian family education and its impact on the development of children’s character in an increasingly complex social and global context. It also identifies challenges in implementing Shema and offers practical solutions for Christian families to help children face these challenges with faith and biblical values.   Contribution: This study significantly contributes to understanding the application of Shema in Christian religious education within the family. By focusing on how Shema shapes the character of children, this research not only fills a gap in the literature on Christian family education but also provides practical insights for parents on how to integrate biblical principles into daily life. Additionally, it offers guidance for churches and communities to support families in nurturing children who are equipped to face the challenges of the world with faith and Christian values. Furthermore, this study enriches the discourse on how family education can contribute to the formation of a society based on strong character and moral integrity.

Abstract

This article explores the biblical narrative of the Cushite woman in Numbers 12, focusing on the intersections of race, gender, and power within the ancient Israelite context. The background of this study lies in the marginalization of non-Israelite women in biblical texts, particularly the Cushite woman, whose identity and role have been largely overlooked. The purpose of this article is to investigate how her silence and the criticism from Moses' siblings, Miriam and Aaron, reflect broader themes of racial and gender-based exclusion. Using a qualitative analysis of the biblical text, this study examines the implications of her marginalization within the power structures of ancient Israel, as well as the racial prejudices embedded in the narrative. The results suggest that the Cushite woman’s silence, while often interpreted as subjugation, can also be viewed as a form of subtle resistance against the patriarchal and racial systems at play.   Contribution: This article contributes to a more nuanced understanding of how marginalized figures were portrayed in the Bible, and it reflects on the ongoing relevance of these themes in modern discussions of race, gender, and authority.

Abstract

This study explores the timeless relevance of Job’s suffering as narrated in the biblical Book of Job, analyzing its practical theological implications for contemporary believers. Positioned “between ashes and hope,” Job's journey is not merely an ancient tale of personal tragedy but a profound reflection on faith, endurance, divine silence, and the mystery of suffering. In a modern world marked by existential anxiety, personal loss, injustice, and spiritual doubt, the figure of Job invites a deeper inquiry into how believers today can meaningfully engage with suffering without losing faith. This paper argues that Job’s suffering is not incidental but essential mandatory crucible through which authentic faith is refined. It challenges superficial understandings of prosperity theology, proposing instead a spiritual maturity rooted in the tension between lament and trust. By drawing on biblical exegesis, historical interpretations, and contemporary theological voices, this research examines: How Job’s responses model a sacred protest that honors both emotional honesty and reverence. The role of divine silence as a test of trust and a space for transformative waiting. The implications of non-retributive suffering, where pain is not punishment but participation in a deeper divine mystery. Ultimately, this paper seeks to equip modern believers with a resilient, hope-infused theology of suffering—one that does not deny pain but embraces it as a pathway to spiritual depth, solidarity with the suffering Christ, and ultimate restoration. In living “between ashes and hope,” the believer learns that God is most present not in explanations, but in enduring presence.   Contribution: This article contributes by offering practical and theological perspectives on how the suffering in the story of Job can be applied to contemporary life, especially for those facing difficulties and doubts. Additionally, it challenges narrow theological views, such as prosperity theology, by presenting a deeper understanding of suffering as a path to spiritual maturity, rather than as a punishment from God.
