Abstract

This study analyzes Christina Dalcher's Vox using the theory of representation by Stuart Hall 1997 and the discursive approach by Michel Foucault is an effective means of comprehending meaning through conversation. This theory analyzes patriarchal discourse experienced by female main characters. This study is categorized as qualitative research. This thesis has two kinds of data to support this research, primary and secondary. The primary data are collected from the dialogues and narration in Vox novel that represent the patriarchal system through the female characters. The secondary data are collected from various journals, books, and internet sources. In Vox novel, women always experience oppression and violence. It makes women’s lives miserable. The result of this study found four patriarchal discourse which cover patriarchal culture, patriarchal sexuality, patriarchal household production, and patriarchal state. Women experience psychological oppression carried out by President and Pure Movement. It begins with President and Pure Movement who control women’s life. This causes gender inequality which can give birth to subordination, marginalization, double burden, and violence. The last result is the ideological position of the author. The ideological position of the author does not support patriarchal system. Dalcher paints an original depiction of the current state of society by implying that women must be granted equal rights in society. Women have essentially the same rights as men, including the right to live an honorable life, to be free from fear, and to have the ability to choose their path in life.

Abstract

This paper aims to analyze the position of women in various major civilizations before the revelation of the Qur'an and the contribution of Islam in changing these perspectives. This research uses the literature review method to explore how women were treated in the pre-Islamic Greek, Roman, Persian, Indian, Chinese, and Jahiliyyah civilizations, and compares them with the Islamic view as stated in the Qur'an. The results show that at that time, women were in a subordinate position and were often seen as property without civil rights. They experienced discrimination in various aspects of life, including social, economic and political. In fact, the religions that developed at that time, such as Judaism and Christianity, often reinforced negative stereotypes against women. In contrast, Islam through the Qur'an brought significant changes by giving equal rights to women. These rights include education, politics, career, social security, leadership, inheritance, and various other aspects, which show high respect for the dignity of women. In conclusion, the Qur'an acts as a revolution in glorifying women, freeing them from the shackles of discrimination, and elevating their status in society. The contribution of this research lies in the finding that such transformation not only impacts women, but also brings about social changes that are more just and inclusive

Abstract

In the social life of Muslim societies, there are gender inequalities that contradict Islamic teachings that prioritise equality between men and women. This inequality is often justified by incorrect religious interpretations, so cultural and structural changes are needed to change the view of Islamic education to achieve gender equality. Gender education has the goal of creating justice and harmony between different types of individuals, based on the disparities that exist between them. This research is intended to investigate the concept of education that considers gender differences and the extent to which it is relevant to the goals of Islamic education. The research method uses qualitative analysis with a literature approach, involving the collection of various documents such as books, articles, journals, and other documents. The research data sources consist of main data and supporting data. The findings of this research indicate that there are conceptual similarities between gender-inclusive education and the goals of Islamic education, especially in terms of education that is mandatory for both men and women and emphasis on moral development. Through this education, it is expected that men and women can work together for the progress of the nation, in accordance with the thoughts of RA Kartini.

Abstract

Bantengan, a traditional art from Indonesia, blends martial arts, dance, music, and theater. Historically linked to martial arts, Bantengan preserves culture and addresses gender, inclusion, and child development issues. It shapes gender identity by reinforcing traditional values and promoting inclusivity but faces challenges such as restrictive norms and trance-related risks. Bantengan fosters social inclusion by encouraging empathy, cooperation, and interaction while supporting local economies through performance-related trade. For children, it serves as an educational platform to instill cultural knowledge, creativity, and character. However, risks like exposure to violence and neglect of academic pursuits need attention. A balanced, inclusive approach ensures Bantengan remains a valuable cultural and social asset.
