Abstract

This study aims to know whether or not using authentic materials can improve reading comprehension of the grade eight students of SMP Negeri 16 Palu. This research used a quasi-experimental research design. The research population was the grade eight students of SMP Negeri 16 Palu which consisted of 112 students. The sample was selected by using a purposive sampling technique. The number of the sample was 22 students of class VIII A as the experimental group and 22 students of class VIII E as the control group. The data were collected through pre-test and post-test about reading. The students were assigned some tasks consisting of 10 multiple-choices and 5 essay questions. The result of this research showed the mean deviation score of the experimental group was 89.45 and 79.27 for the control group. Therefore, the t-counted value (6.43) is higher than the t-table value (2,018). It is proved that the hypothesis is accepted in which there is development of the students after getting the treatment. It means that the use of Authentic Materials can improve students Reading comprehension. The implication of this finding is that the teachers need to use authentic material as the media in teaching reading.

Abstract

Adinda Delima Rameisyah (2024). Enhancing Speaking Skill of the Eleventh Grade Students of SMA Negeri 2 Sigi Through the Use of Tik Tok Application. English Education study program Language and Art Education Department, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Tadulako University, under the guidance of Mochtar Marhum and Andi Patmasari. The purpose of this study to find out whether the use of the Tik Tok Application has a significant effect as a teaching tool and in enhance the speaking skills of elevents grade students at SMA Negeri 2 Sigi. This study uses a experimental class and control class. The numbers of this study were 25 students, the sample was elevents grade students at Sma Negeri 2 Sigu. Data were obtained before and after treatment, students were given a pre-test and post-test, while data were analyzed using the T-test and data obtained from the pretest and posttest were analyzed through SPSS. The results showed that there was a significant difference in students' speaking scores. Based on the sig value of the paired sample test (2-tailed) is 0.000 <0.05, meaning that Ha is accepted while Ho is rejected. It can be concluded that the use of Tik Tok Application has a significant effect on enhance the speaking skills of elevents grade students of Sma Negeri 2 Sigi.

Abstract

The objective of the research is to determine if using Partner Reading Strategy can improve reading comprehension of grade eight students of SMPN 2 Tanantovea. This research was conducted through a quasi experimental research design in which the sample of the research was selected using a simple random sampling technique. This research used a reading comprehension test as the instrument. The data collection of this research were analyzed statistically in order to find out the significant difference between two groups on the posttest after the treatment using Partner Reading Strategy given to the experimental group. It was found that the mean scores of both the experimental and control groups on the posttest were respectively 70 and 42. Furthermore, referring to the ttable value of df 44 (23+23-2) by applying 0.05 level of significance on one-tailed test, it was found that the tcounted value of this research (16) was higher than the ttable value (1.7). It implies that using Partner Reading Strategy can improve reading comprehension of grade eight students of SMPN 2 Tanantovea

Abstract

The objective of this research is to improve if using the U-Dictionary Application can improve the vocabulary of eighth-grade students. The researchers applied quasi experimental research design. The experimental group consisted of 25 students, while the control group also consisted of 25 students. The data were collected using a test administered twice; it was in the form of a pre-test and a post-test. The data were analyzed statistically. The results of the data analysis showed that the t-counted value (2.14) was higher than the t-table (1.677). It means that the hypothesis is accepted. In other words, using U-Dictionary Application can improve the vocabulary of eighth-grade students of SMP Negeri 17 Palu.

Abstract

The reading comprehension of class X1 students at MA Alkhairaat Biromaru. This research uses a quasi-experimental design by applying a nonequivalent control group design. The population was class X1 students at MA Alkhairaat Biromaru consisting of 30 students from two classes. The sample is class IPA as the experimental group and class IPS as the control group. Sample selection was carried out in total. Tests are used to collect data consisting of pre-test and post-test. The test results show that the average pre-test score obtained by the experimental group is 40.47, while the mea pre-test score obtained by the control group is 43.53. Then, the average post-test score for the experimental group is 86.68, while the control group is 67.13; the t-calculated value (4.28) was higher than the t-table value (1.70), which means that the hypothesis was accepted. The T-test tests determine the significance and relevance between two groups of unpaired samples. Based on the research results, using Story Mapping can improve the reading comprehension of class X1 students at MA Alkhairaat Biromaru.

Abstract

The objective of this research was prove that the use of pictures can develop the students skill to write recount text. The research applied quasi experimental research design that involved experimental group and a control group. The sample of this research was 45students, which where divided into 22 students of class A as the experimental group and 23 students of class B as the control group. The sample was selected by using purposive sampling technique. In collecting the data, the researchers used test, the test was used pre-test and post-test. Then, the data were analyzed statistically. Having analyzed the data, it was revealed that there were different score obtained from control group and experimental group. In other words, t-counted (3,70) was higher than t-table (1,681). It means that the research hypothesis is accepted. In conclusion, that the use of pictures can develop the students writing skill to the eighth grade of SMP SATAP Negeri 1 Ampibabo.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to prove that using discovery learning methods can improve reading comprehension of the eleventh grade students of SMA NEGERI 2 SIGI. The research applied pre-experimental design. The data were obtained from pre-test and post-test. The population was class XI students at SMA Negeri 2 Sigi. Consisting of 228 students from eight classes. The sample is class IPS 2 as the experimental group. Sample selection was carried out in cluster random sampling. Tests were used to collect data consisting of pre-test and post-test. The test result showed that the average pretest score obtained by the experimental group is 61.55. Then, the average post-test score for the experimental group is 81.45. By applying the 0.05 level significance, the researcher found the sig value obtained (p) was lower than (α) (0,000<0,05) it means that the hypothesis is accepted or using discovery learning method can improve reading comprehension of grade eleventh students of SMA Negeri 2 Sigi. This research implies that the use of discovery learning encourages students to develop research and reflective skills that can be applied across various situations and for teachers to have additional ways of teaching English to their students, especially by using discovery learning methods.

Abstract

This research aims to find out whether the application of descriptive text is effective in improving the writing skills of grade 8 (eight) students at SMP Negeri 18 Sigi. This research uses descriptive qualitative methods. This population is students in class 8 (eight) of Sigi State Middle School, consisting of 100 people. Sample selection was carried out in total. The test was used to collect data consisting of a pre-test and post-test. The test results showed that the average pre-test score obtained was 59.58. After carrying out the post test the results showed that there were 85% of students who were competent and 15% who were not competent. Increasing students' abilities means that the application of descriptive text to grade 8 (eight) students at SMP Negeri 18 Sigi was declared successful.

Abstract

The Songs can provide attractive and instructional media in learning activities. Song has been designed to motivate students to participate the English teaching and learning. The study aims to identify the students’ perception on using songs in teaching English. Interviews are conducted as the research instruments to get students’ perceptions towards English songs in teaching English. The interviews show that most students feel English songs are very helpful for them in improving their Speaking skill. They also feel that the English song they listen to have the power to encourage students' motivation to learn the. Correct pronunciation and learn English more deeply. In addition, the beauty of the tone and rhythm of the music also makes students feel happy and relaxed. They also feel that by listening to the lyrics of English song carefully, they can easily get information about the correct pronunciation from native speakers. It makes them enthusiastic and increases their interest in learning.

Abstract

This research aimed to discover students’ perception of using YouTube as a Media for Learning and factors that can contribute to the use of YouTube as a learning media. Qualitative descriptive are used. The subjects of this research were 30 students of class X 7. Questionnaires and interviews were applied to collect data. The questionnaire consists of 30 questions; interviews were conducted as supporting data. Based on data analysis, data from the questionnaire shows that most students agree with the use of YouTube as a medium for learning English. Learning to use YouTube also gives students new experiences in learning and can overcome boredom in monotonous learning. The interview results also showed that students were happy and gained new experiences by using YouTube as a learning medium. The conclusion can be drawn that students agree that using YouTube can overcome boredom in class, increase interest in learning and gain new experiences
