Abstract

The purpose of the study was to find out the effect of family education and mass media on students’ attitudes toward sex education. Using correlational design, the study involved 93 third-semester students of Education Faculty of Sebelas Maret University, who were selected out of 125 students using multistage random sampling technique. The data, which were collected through questionnaire, were analyzed using Pearson's product moment correlation, t-test, and multiple regression. The results indicate that family education and mass media had a significant effect on students’ attitudes toward sex education.

Abstract

Proses hubungan antarbangsa dapat melahirkan keragaman budaya yang berasal dari keragaman etnis, dan berkembang ke arah kerjasama internasional. Pendidikan multikultural bertujuan membantu peserta didik dalam memahami dan menyadari diri sendiri dan budaya bangsa lain, mengembangkan penghargaan terhadap budaya bangsa lain, serta mendorong individu untuk mendukung dan berpartisipasi dalam berbagai budaya yang dipilihnya.

Abstract

Kehidupan modern yang serba positivistik dan serba terukur sebagai konsekuensi dari pendewaan akal pikir telah gagal mengatasi problem kehidupan, bahkan menimbulkan problem baru yang mengusik hati nurani umat manusia seperti dekadensi moral, dehumanisasi, perusakan lingkungan, dan peperangan. Kegagalan modernisme itu telah melahirkan gerakan postmodernisme yang mendekonstruksi pemikiran modernisme. Gerakan postmodernisme telah merambah ke berbagai bidang kehidupan, termasuk seni, ilmu, filsafat, dan pendidikan.

Abstract

This study was focused on the organization effectiveness of private universities. Data were collected using a questionnaire administered to 263 lecturers of private universities in Malang Municipality drawn randomly. The data were then analyzed statistically by percentages, mean measures, dan path analysis. The results indicated that there were 7 components of organizational effectiveness: communication system, goal setting, leadership process, decision-making process, motivation intensity/strength, controlling process, and interaction process. In general, there was a correlation between subordinates' characteristics, situation control, leadership style, organization culture, organization climate, and the organization effectiveness of the private universities.

Abstract

Gagasan keterkaitan dan kesepadanan atau link and match merupakan kebijakan Mendikbud untuk meningkatkan relevansi pendidikan dengan kebutuhan pembangunan umumnya. Pelaksanaannya di lapangan masih dihadapkan kepada berbagai permasalahan. Pendidikan gunakarya merupakan alternatif jawaban terhadap masalah relevansi pendidikan dengan dunia kerja secara lebih nyata dalam pelaksanaannya di lapangan, termasuk dalam pendidikan seni rupa. Bidang didik gunakarya dalam program seni rupa tidak berhenti pada kegiatan mengenal atau menghafal saja, tetapi sampai pada menghasilkan bukti rampung yang berupa karya yang bermakna bagi kehidupan nyata.

Abstract

This study aimed at describing teenagers’ smoking frequency and analyzing the factors which encouraged them to smoke. Data were collected from 120 respondents taken randomly from one public and 2 private vocational schools. The result showed that 59.17% students were active smokers, and 67.87% smoked 1 to 3 cigarettes per day. 47.89% students smoked because of their school mates’ invitation. Other findings showed that smoking was not considered as a dangerous threat for health. These students even thought that smoking could grow courage, help solve problems, increase self confidence, serve as identity for men, and means for building social life.

Abstract

The study was intended to explore teachers’ speech acts in the teaching-learning process of Bahasa Indonesia in the fourth grade of elementary schools. A descriptive-qualitative design was employed and data were collected from fourth-grade teachers of Bahasa Indonesia in elementary schools in Blitar through observation, interview, and field notes. Data analysis was carried out while and after collecting the data. The results indicate that the teachers used a variety of speech acts proportionally and effectively in accordance with developmental theories by Austin, Searle, Flanders, Sinclair and Coulthard, and Burton. The teachers’ speech acts reflect the success of communicative interaction in the teaching-learning process.

Abstract

Behaviorism as system of thought has its roots in a number of philosophical traditions: materialism, empirism, and positivism. Behavior-istic psychology applied to the educational context has resulted in several educational policy emphases and specific instructional practices, i.e. behavioral objectives, instructional strategies, and competency based education. The emphases in competency based education are on the outcomes rather than the process of learning. The advocates of behavioral education maintain that learning outcomes should be measured objectively and precisely.

Abstract

The Relationship between Teachers' Professional Competence and Utilization of Learning Resources and Students Achievement in Science. This study was intended to investigate the relationship between teachers' professional competence and utilization of learning resources and students' achievement in science. The study involved 34 elementary school teachers in Sarangan, Surakarta. Product moment technique and regression analyses were employed to analyze the data which had been collected using questionnaires. The results indicate that there is no correlation between the utilization of learning resources and students' achievement in science, that there is a significant correlation between teachers' professional competence and students' achievement, and that there is no significant correlation between the use of learning resources, teachers' professional competence, and students' achievement in science.

Abstract

Curriculum change into competence based education can give implications to the economy course syllabus. The curriculum change should be supported by lectures as a course syllabus developer. The syllabus development aims to give students with relevant life skill for their future. Therefore, life skills should be integrated to syllabus development, so the students can apply the knowledge to their ordinary life. The process can be integrated to the economy education course.
