Abstract

This study aims to analyze the determinants of students' physical condition in urban and rural environments in Semarang. The study used a quantitative, correlational method. The study sample consisted of 67 students, consisting of 33 rural students and 34 urban students, selected using a purposive sampling technique. Data collection was carried out using the Neighborhood Environment Walkability Scale-Youth (NEWS-Y) questionnaire, anthropometric measurements, and the Nusantara Student Fitness Test (TKPN), which includes V Sit Reach, Sit Up, Squat Thrust, and PACER. Data analysis used descriptive statistics, normality and linearity tests, and Pearson Product-Moment correlation tests with SPSS version 26. The results showed that most students in both schools were in the category of sufficient physical fitness. Urban students had higher average TKPN scores than rural students across all test components. The results of the correlation test showed that the relationship between environmental determinants and students' physical condition was 0.110 in rural areas (p=0.541) and 0.080 in urban areas (p=0.654). These results indicate that the relationship between environmental determinants and students' physical condition is very low and insignificant. This study indicates that students' physical condition is influenced by various factors such as daily physical activity, nutritional status, modern lifestyle, and active lifestyle habits.

Abstract

This study aims to develop the GOTANG game model as an alternative for physical education learning to increase the active participation of fifth-grade elementary school students in Semarang City. This research is motivated by students' low in-terest in traditional games and limited facilities and infrastructure in learning large ball games, especially handball. This study used the Research and Develop-ment (R&D) method with the ADDIE model (analysis, design, development, imple-mentation, and evaluation). Data collection was conducted through observation, interviews, and questionnaires. Data analysis used quantitative and qualitative descriptive analysis using the Guttman scale. A small-scale trial was conducted on 15 students from SDN Pakintelan 2, while a large-scale trial was conducted on 45 students from SDN Pakintelan 2 and Pakintelan 3. Product validation involved game experts and physical education experts. The results of the study are as fol-lows: (1)  The validation data according to experts is 97% in the sufficient category. (2) The results of small-scale trials were 92% with Good category, and (3) The re-sults of large-scale trials were 90% in the Good category. The product resulting from this development is a model of the Gobak Sodor Bala Tangan (GOTANG) game that can be assembled and disassembled. The Gotang game has been de-clared suitable for use as a learning model for physical education materials in elementary schools.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of instructional media on forearm passing ability in volleyball and to examine whether learning motivation moderates this effect among Grade XII students at SMA Pasundan Banjaran. A quasi-experimental design with a Nonequivalent Control Group Design and pretest–posttest scheme was employed. The sample consisted of 35 students divided into an experimental group (n=17, Class XII-A) receiving instructional media treatment and a control group (n=18, Class XII-B) taught using conventional methods. Forearm passing ability was measured through pretest and posttest assessments, while learning motivation was assessed using a validated questionnaire. Data were analyzed using moderated regression analysis. Results showed that learning motivation significantly affected forearm passing ability (β=0.032, t=5.882, p<0.05), and the interaction between instructional media and motivation was also significant (β=0.014, t=30.464, p<0.05), indicating a moderation effect. Instructional media alone did not significantly affect passing ability (p=0.256). These findings suggest that the effectiveness of instructional media in improving forearm passing is contingent on students’ level of learning motivation, highlighting the importance of motivation-enhancing strategies in physical education.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze gender differences in PE learning motivation and basic psychological needs satisfaction from the perspective of Self-Determination Theory (SDT) among students at SMK Muhammadiyah 1 Semarang. This study used a quantitative comparative research design involving 91 students consisting of 36 male and 55 female students. Data were collected using the Basic Psychological Needs in Physical Education (BPNS-PE) and Perceived Locus of Causality (PLOC) questionnaires. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Kolmogorov–Smirnov normality tests, and the Mann–Whitney U test. The results showed that there was no significant difference in PE learning motivation between male and female students (p = 0.111). However, significant differences were found in basic psychological needs satisfaction (p = 0.001), where male students demonstrated higher levels of autonomy, competence, and relatedness compared to female students. These findings indicate that psychological experiences during PE learning activities may differ according to gender. Therefore, teachers need to create inclusive and supportive learning environments to improve students’ motivation and psychological needs satisfaction during PE learning.

Abstract

The modern era, characterized by rapid advances in digital technology, has led to an increase in sedentary lifestyles among children and adolescents, which has resulted in a decline in physical literacy—a crucial foundation for students’ affec-tive, cognitive, and psychomotor development. This study aims to analyze the role of traditional games in improving students’ physical literacy in the modern era through a literature review approach. The method used is a literature review em-ploying descriptive analysis techniques on various relevant articles, journals, and scientific literature. The findings indicate that traditional games such as engklek, gobak sodor, and hide-and-seek have been proven to holistically enhance stu-dents’ physical literacy, encompassing the physical, psychological, social, and cognitive domains. Furthermore, traditional games are effective in reducing sed-entary time, improving motor skills, physical fitness, motivation, and students’ self-confidence to actively engage in long-term physical activities. Traditional games also contribute to character building, the instillation of cooperative values, and the preservation of local culture. Thus, traditional games can serve as a contextual, relevant, and effective pedagogical approach in physical education at school to support the development of physical literacy among students growing up amidst the challenges of the modern era.
