Abstract

The objective of this study is to evaluate the impact of periodized core training and resistance-based strength training on enhancing service accuracy, as well as to compare the efficacy of these two training modalities among intermediate tennis players.  This study used an experimental method with a two-group pre-test and post-test design.  There were 16 intermediate tennis players from Club TitikTemuTennis in the sample. They were split into two groups: the periodized core training group and the resistance-based strength training group.  The training program took place over the course of one month, with three sessions per week for a total of 12 sessions.  The research tools used a test to see how well people could serve tennis balls.  Descriptive statistics, paired sample t-tests, and independent sample t-tests were used to look at the data.  The findings indicated that both training methods significantly enhanced service accuracy.  The periodized core training group gained an average of 10.50 points, while the resistance-based strength training group gained 7.75 points.  The comparison test showed that periodized core training was better than resistance-based strength training at helping people serve better.  So, systematic core stability training is a better way for intermediate tennis players to improve their serve accuracy.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of wall shooting drill training using the B.E.E.F. method (Balance, Eyes, Elbow, and Follow-Through) on the free-throw accuracy of basketball athletes at SMAN 3 Tegal City. The study employed a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental method using a one-group pre-test–post-test design. The sample consisted of 25 athletes selected through a total sampling technique. The treatment was administered over 12 training sessions within four weeks. Data were collected through free-throw tests conducted before and after the treatment. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, the Shapiro–Wilk normality test, and a paired-samples t-test. The results showed that the mean free-throw score increased from 3.92 in the pre-test to 4.84 in the post-test. The paired-samples t-test revealed a significance value of 0.037 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test results. Therefore, it can be concluded that wall shooting drill training using the B.E.E.F. method has a significant effect on improving free-throw accuracy among basketball athletes. This method can be recommended as an alternative training program to enhance free-throw performance in school-level basketball athlete development.

Abstract

The evaluation of physical fitness is a core element of sport science, clinical exercise physiology and population health surveillance but a comprehensive bibliometric synthesis of the recent global trend is missing. The present study aims to describe the productivity, intellectual structure, and thematic evolution of the research on fitness tests published between 2015 and 2026. A total of 5,766 peer-reviewed articles indexed in the Scopus database (Elsevier) were retrieved with the search string TITLE-ABS-KEY ("fitness test" OR "physical fitness test" OR "exercise test"). The articles were analysed through performance analysis and science mapping with Bibliometrix R-package (Biblioshiny), VOSviewer 1.6.20, and Microsoft Excel, following the protocol of (Aria & Cuccurullo, 2017; Donthu et al., 2021). The dataset included 92,894 citations (mean = 16.11; median = 7.00) from 1,134 source journals. The annual scientific production increased from 380 documents in 2015 to a maximum of 691 documents in 2024, with a 3-year moving average that indicates a sustained acceleration after 2020. The top contributing countries were: United States (n = 1,168), United Kingdom (n = 782), and Brazil (n = 580). Lotka’s law was confirmed (n ≈ 3.24), with a very skewed distribution of productivity; Bradford’s law identified 15 core journals, accounting for 34.1% of all output. Co-occurrence analysis of author keywords resulted in five thematic clusters: General Exercise & Fitness, Cardiorespiratory & Performance, Athletic Performance & Training, Health Aging & Body, and Methodological. Thematic evolution over three sub-periods (2015–2018, 2019–2022, 2023–2026) demonstrated a clear migration of the field from cardiorespiratory and laboratory-based assessment to wearable sensors, machine-learning-enabled monitoring and CRF risk stratification. These findings offer an empirical guide for researchers, clinicians, educators, and policymakers interested in advancing valid, scalable, and technology-integrated fitness assessment.

Abstract

This research investigated the effectiveness of a structured strength training program in enhancing the muscular endurance of female softball athletes from Satchel Peace Cirebon. A quantitative experimental approach was employed using a One-Group Pretest–Posttest Design, involving 23 athletes selected through total sampling. Muscular endurance was evaluated before and after the intervention using one-minute push-up and sit-up tests. The training intervention consisted of 10 sessions designed according to the principles of progressive overload, goal-oriented training, and recovery. Statistical analysis was conducted with IBM SPSS and included the Shapiro–Wilk normality test, Levene's homogeneity test, and a paired-sample t-test. The findings demonstrated an increase in the mean score from 24.91 during the pretest to 32.96 in the posttest. Furthermore, the paired-sample t-test produced a p-value of 0.000 (< 0.05), indicating the rejection of H₀ and acceptance of H₁. These results confirm that a structured strength training program significantly improves the muscular endurance of softball athletes. The observed improvement may be attributed to neuromuscular adaptations and enhanced muscle function resulting from consistent and continuous training.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of training using parachutes on the running speed of SSB PS Peraga U-17 players using the Two Group Pretest-Posttest Design. Speed is an important component in football that supports a player's sprint and acceleration abilities. Parachute training includes resisted sprint training whichprovides air resistance so as to increase the work of the leg muscles when running. The method of this study was a quantitative experiment with two groups, namely the experimental group that was given training using a parachute and the control group that was not given special treatment. The research sample was SSB PS Peraga U-17 players who were selected with a total sampling technique. The research instrument used a 40-meter sprint running test conducted before and after the treatment. The results showed that the experimental group experienced a more significant increase in running speed than the control group. Thus, training using parachutes has an effect on increasing the running speed of SSB PS Peraga U-17 football players

Abstract

Physical fitness is one of the key factors supporting the health, growth, and learning ability of elementary school students. Differences in environmental characteristics between urban and rural areas are thought to influence students’ physical fitness levels. This study aims to compare the physical fitness levels of elementary school students in urban and rural areas of Klaten Regency. The study employed a survey method using a comparative quantitative approach. The sample consisted of 89 male and female students with an average age of 11 years, selected using purposive sampling, comprising 48 students from SD Muhammadiyah 1 Tonggalan and 41 students from SDIT Persada Bayat. Data collection was conducted on April 20–24, 2026, using the Indonesian Physical Fitness Test (TKJI) for ages 11–12, which included a 40-meter run, 30-second sit-ups, 30- second sit-to-stand, standing long jump, and a 600-meter run. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and the Independent Samples t-test after meeting the normality and homogeneity tests. The results showed no significant differences in the bent arm hang, sit-up, and vertical jump components. However, there were significant differences in the 40-meter run and 600-meter run components. Urban students demonstrated better performance in the speed component, while rural students performed better in the cardiorespiratory endurance component. These findings suggest that environmental characteristics have the potential to influence specific physical fitness components in elementary school students.

Abstract

This study examines the role of interpersonal communication between badminton doubles partners in supporting the achievement of athletes from Jepara Regency. Interpersonal comm unication plays an important role in fostering cooperation, coordination, trust, and mutual understanding between partners during training- s, and competitive matches. The objectives of this study are to describe the forms of verbal and nonverbal interpersonal communication among badminton doubles athletes in Jepara Regency and to analyze the role of interpersonal communication in enhancing athletic performance and achievement. This research employed a qualitative method with a narrative design. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation to gain comprehensive insights into the athletes’ experiences. The findings reveal that effective interpersonal communication significantly contributes to improving team cohesion, strategic coordination, self-confidence, and athletes’ ability to cope with competitive pressure. The study also found that openness, empathy, supportiveness, positivity, and equality are essential components in establishing harmonious relationships between partners. Conversely, miscommunication and a lack of openness may negatively affect performance during matches. Overall, effective interpersonal communication positively contributes to the achievement of badminton doubles athletes in Jepara Regency and supports the development of strong partnerships in pursuing common goals.

Abstract

This quasi-experiment-based quantitative research with a pretest-posttest design of two groups aims to analyze and compare the effect of shuttle run and zig-zag drill exercises on ball dribbling agility in SSB DUTA FORTUNA U-13 players. The research sample amounted to 20 players who were taken using saturated sampling techniques, then divided evenly into two groups to undergo a 3-week training program with a frequency of 3 times per week. Dribbling agility is measured using the dribbling agility test in seconds. The results of the Paired Samples T-Test analysis showed that both training methods had a significant influence on the improvement of dribbling agility (p < 0.001), where the shuttle run group experienced a decrease in average travel time by 0.634 seconds and the zig-zag drill group by 0.639 seconds. Based on the effect size analysis, both treatments were in the very large effect category, but the zig-zag drill showed slightly stronger values (Cohen's d = 21.582) than the shuttle run exercise (Cohen's d = 30.693). It can be concluded that both training methods effectively improve the dribbling agility of early age players, with the zig-zag drill making a slightly higher contribution due to its complex movement characteristics more resembling real situations in the game of soccer.

Abstract

Physical activity and sleep quality are important factors that influence students' health and academic performance. Final-year students often face academic demands that may affect both aspects. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between physical activity level and sleep quality among final-year students of the Sport Science Study Program, Faculty of Sport Science, Universitas Negeri Semarang. This research employed a quantitative cross-sectional design involving 40 respondents selected through purposive sampling. Physical activity was measured using the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ), while sleep quality was assessed using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). Data were analyzed using the Spearman Rank correlation test. The results showed that 50% of respondents had high physical activity levels, 32.5% had moderate levels, and 17.5% had low levels. The majority of respondents experienced poor sleep quality (95%). The Spearman Rank test revealed a correlation coefficient of ρ = 0.044 with a significance value of p = 0.786 (p > 0.05). These findings indicate that there is no significant relationship between physical activity level and sleep quality among final-year students of the Sport Science Study Program. Sleep quality is likely influenced by factors other than physical activity.

Abstract

Backhand netting is an essential skill in badminton, helping players control the pace of play while creating scoring opportunities. Its effectiveness depends on shuttlecock placement accuracy, trajectory quality over the net, and its ability to land where the opponent struggles to reach it. This study aimed to describe the effectiveness of the backhand netting technique among athletes of the Badminton Student Activity Unit (UKM) at Universitas Negeri Semarang and identify its contributing biomechanical factors. A descriptive-correlational quantitative approach was used, involving ten male athletes selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through a backhand netting skill test with three assessment indicators and 2D kinematic video analysis using Kinovea software, then analyzed using descriptive statistics and Pearson correlation. Results showed a mean effectiveness score of 10.10 out of 12, with eight athletes (80%) classified as very effective and two (20%) as effective. Kinematic analysis further revealed a significant, strong positive correlation between the final elbow angle during follow-through and effectiveness score (r = 0.692, p = 0.027). Overall, the athletes' backhand netting technique was highly effective, driven mainly by optimal elbow extension during follow-through, offering coaches valuable insight for evaluating technical performance through biomechanical technology.
