Abstract

Wushu is a martial arts sport that originates from China and is starting to develop in Indonesia. Wushu activities as a whole in Indonesia have been stopped due to the COVID 19 pandemic, causing many athletes to be unable to display their best abilities. As evidenced by training at Jakabaring Sport City (JSC), athletes quickly get tired due to lack of training activities, which also results in poor body condition. To achieve maximum performance, an athlete must definitely have good physical fitness. In this research, we used the Indonesian Student Fitness Test which consists of Body Mass Index (BMI), Sitting Reach Test V, Sit Up Test 60 seconds, Squat Push Test 30 seconds, and Pacer Test with descriptive research to determine the level of fitness of student athletes from the Garuda Wushu Melati Putih Palembang club. Based on observations during the research, there were several Wushu athletes at the Garuda Melati Putih Palembang club who were not fit enough, so that when taking the test the athletes had difficulty carrying out these movements. Obtained from 29 Wushu athletes from the Garuda Melati Putih Palembang club, 25 athletes were in the very good category (86,2%), 2 athletes were in the fair category (0,68%), 1 athlete was in the poor category (0,3%), and the remaining 0 athletes (0%). It was concluded that the Indonesian Student Fitness Test of the Garuda Wushu Melati Putih Palembang club still showed very good criteria.

Abstract

In high-intensity sports such as BMX Cross, psychological factors such as anxiety play a significant role in influencing athlete performance. In female athletes, the menstrual cycle can cause hormonal changes that impact physical and psychological conditions, including increased anxiety. Each cycle phase—follicular, ovulatory, and luteal—has different potentials to trigger emotional responses, influencing an athlete’s perception of readiness and performance during competition. This study aimed to understand the role of self-confidence and anxiety in female BMX Cross athletes during the menstrual cycle. This study uses a descriptive quantitative approach with a correlational design. The sample consisted of 22 female BMX Cross athletes. The instrument used was a self-confidence and anxiety questionnaire, given once to all respondents. The study's results showed a significant relationship between self-confidence and anxiety levels during the menstrual cycle. Physiological hormonal changes, physiological factors, and psychological factors such as self-perception and previous experiences affect the mental condition of athletes. This study concludes that, based on the menstrual cycle, the self-confidence and anxiety of female BMX Cross athletes are related. Therefore, a deeper approach is needed in athlete coaching to help athletes manage self-confidence and anxiety and maintain optimal performance. Therefore, we recommend paying more attention to athletes' menstrual cycles in training planning and match strategies to help maintain optimal athlete performance.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the development of traditional sports conducted by PORTINA in Temanggung Regency. Using a qualitative descriptive method, data were collected through in-depth interviews with six key informants, direct observation, and documentation. The informants consisted of PORTINA administrators and traditional sports activists actively involved in coaching and promotional activities. The findings indicate that PORTINA Temanggung has implemented a multidimensional development strategy, including school-based integration, community coaching, and digital promotion. Routine training activities are held in public spaces, with a focus on games such as egrang, gobak sodor, and terompah panjang, supported by storytelling and cultural education. The organization also mobilizes local volunteers through training programs and collaborates with schools via extracurricular and cultural events. However, the study also reveals several challenges: limited infrastructure, inadequate funding, and declining youth interest due to modern digital lifestyles. To address these issues, PORTINA adapts by using social media and community-based innovation. The active participation of local communities and contextual coaching approaches are proven effective in sustaining traditional sports. This research contributes to the understanding of traditional sports development in rural areas and highlights the need for multi-stakeholder collaboration and stronger policy support to ensure the sustainability of traditional heritage in contemporary society.

Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the effects of a 15-week structured training program combining strength and aerobic exercises with progressive overload principles on body fat percentage and muscle mass in young athletes participating in Indonesia's National Sports Grand Design (DBON). Using a quasi-experimental design with pre-test and post-test measurements, 19 athletes aged 13–16 from four sports disciplines at Universitas Negeri Semarang were assessed via InBody 270. Results indicated no significant changes in muscle mass (male: 28.5 ± 2.7 kg to 29.0 ± 2.4 kg, p>0.05; female: 24.7 ± 4.0 kg to 24.6 ± 3.9 kg, p>0.05) or body fat percentage (male: 7.8 ± 5.9 kg; female: 11.6 ± 3.8 kg, p>0.05). A weak positive correlation was found between BMI and fat/muscle mass (rho = 0.124, p = 0.612). The findings suggest that the 15-week program was insufficient to induce significant body composition changes, highlighting the need for longer intervention periods, individualized training adjustments, and integrated nutritional strategies to optimize outcomes for young athletes.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the level of parental support for the training motivation of beginner fencing athletes in Kendal Regency. The method used is a survey with a descriptive quantitative approach. The sample consisted of 45 beginner fencing athletes selected through quota sampling. Data were collected using a Likert scale questionnaire that had been tested for validity and reliability. The results showed that parental support was in the moderate category with an average score of 2.54 or 56%, while athlete training motivation was in the good category with an average score of 2.72 or 60%. These findings indicate that although parental support is not yet optimal, athletes still show strong enthusiasm and commitment in their training. This study highlights the importance of parental involvement, particularly in the form of emotional and instrumental support, in enhancing motivation and athletic performance among beginners. It is recommended that parents become more actively involved in their children’s training activities and maintain regular communication with coaches.

Abstract

Competition anxiety in basketball athletes can be influenced by poor performance. Good performance can boost self-confidence, thereby reducing anxiety before a match. Religiosity is another factor that may alleviate competition anxiety. This study aims to examine the relationship between religiosity and performance on Competition anxiety among male basketball athletes of the POPDA team in Brebes Regency. The research employs a correlational quantitative approach with total sampling technique. Data were collected using questionnaires for religiosity and anxiety, as well as performance tests (physical and technical skills). The results indicate: A strong correlation between religiosity and anxiety (r = 0.678; p = 0.05). A strong correlation between performance and anxiety (r = 0.788; p = 0.00). Simultaneously, religiosity and performance significantly influence anxiety (F = 124.637 > F-table = 3.81; p = 0.00). Partial t-tests further confirm that both religiosity (t = 3.841) and performance (t = 2.595) positively and significantly affect anxiety. Overall, 75% of anxiety variability is influenced by religiosity and performance. Showed that religiosity and athlete performance had a significant role in reducing male basketball athletes’ match anxiety. Higher levels of religiosity and better performance were strongly associated with lower levels of anxiety prior to competition. Together, these two factors accounted for 75% of the variability in athletes’ anxiety levels, highlighting their substantial combined impact.

Abstract

Student-athletes often find themselves juggling the demands of schoolwork and sports, which can create much pressure and lead to feelings of stress and anxiety. These difficulties do not just make it harder for them to do their best in class or on the field—they can also have a long-term impact on their mental health. This research seeks to explore how psychological distress is connected to anxiety among student-athletes. This study used a descriptive correlational quantitative method involving 61 student-athletes of the Faculty of Sport and Health Education, Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia. Data were collected using the Depression Anxiety Stress Scale (DASS-21) to measure psychological distress and the Sport Anxiety Scale (SAS-2) to measure sports anxiety through Google Forms. Data analysis used a normality test, Pearson correlation, and descriptive statistics with SPSS version 29. The results showed a strong and significant positive relationship between psychological distress and anxiety in student-athletes. Data showed 56.3% of student-athletes experienced psychological distress, and 50.6% experienced anxiety, indicating a relatively high prevalence of psychological disorders in this population. This study indicated that student-athletes who experience psychological distress are also more likely to feel worried, revealing exactly how impossible it can be to reconcile school and athletics.   The findings underscore the particular mental health issues these students confront as they strive to keep up with both their academic and sports commitments. We therefore recommend the importance of integrated psychological interventions and tailored mental health support for student-athletes to help them manage stress and anxiety, as well as improve their academic and athletic performance.

Abstract

Volleyball, a dynamic team sport, relies heavily on mastering fundamental techniques such as forearm passing to ensure seamless gameplay and effective team strategies. The proficiency in forearm passing is influenced not only by technical skills but also by physical components, including agility, reaction time, and eye-hand coordination. This study aims to analyze the relationship between these three physical factors and forearm passing ability among volleyball players. Conducted at the Tunas Brilliant Volleyball Club, vocational high school Ma’arif NU 01 Limpung, Batang, Central Java, in December 2024, the research employed a quantitative correlational approach. A purposive sampling technique was used to select 30 active players aged 15–18 years. Data were collected through standardized tests: the Illinois Agility Run Test for agility, the Whole Body Reaction Test for reaction time, the ball throw-catch test for eye-hand coordination, and the volleyball forearm passing test for passing ability. Pearson correlation analysis revealed significant relationships: agility showed a strong negative correlation (r = -0,553, p = 0,002), reaction time a moderate negative correlation (r = -0,378, p = 0,039), and eye-hand coordination a strong positive correlation (r = 0,564, p = 0,001) with passing ability. These findings underscore the critical role of integrated physical training in enhancing passing skills. Coaches are recommended to design holistic training programs incorporating agility drills, reaction exercises, and coordination activities to optimize player performance and support long-term volleyball development.
