Abstract

This paper explores the strategic role of music in enhancing social coherence within organisations and communities. Drawing from insights into psychology, organisational behaviour, and sociology, we investigate how music catalyses fostering collaboration, strengthening relationships, and promoting inclusivity. By integrating music into various facets of organisational life, including branding strategies and decision-making processes, organisations can create environments that entertain, inspire, and unite individuals. Organisations can communicate values, evoke emotions, and establish a sense of belonging among stakeholders through music. Whether through the selection of background music in the workplace, the incorporation of music into marketing campaigns, or the use of music-based activities in team-building exercises, the strategic deployment of music can significantly impact social dynamics and organisational culture. Embracing music as a strategic tool enables organisations to create inclusive environments where diverse perspectives are valued, and individuals feel connected and supported. By identifying and leveraging music's transformative potential, organisations can cultivate cohesive, interconnected societies that thrive on collaboration and mutual respect. This study highlights the importance of integrating music into strategic initiatives to foster social cohesion and build resilient communities.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the analysis of Jujuk Eksa’s techniques in applying multitrack mixing to dangdut music, emphasizing the genre's distinctive use of the kendang drum. Jujuk Eksa is a sound engineer who specializes in music production across various genres, including dangdut, keroncong, congdut, and Javanese langgam. His extensive experience includes collaborations with renowned national musicians such as Didi Kempot, Nurhana, and Soleh Akbar. This research employs a qualitative descriptive method, integrating a musicological approach to examine dangdut music and a technological approach to analyze mixing techniques. The study involves in-depth interviews with Jujuk Eksa, direct observation of the mixing process, and documentation analysis of mixing data. The findings reveal three key aspects: (1) Preparation, which includes ensuring data feasibility, determining the appropriate formula, and considering musical arrangements; (2) Treatment, comprising essential mixing procedures such as setting levels, equalization, dynamic processing, reverb effects, harmonic enhancement, and pre-mastering, which encompasses mixdown and normalization as the finalization process; and (3) Mixing Focus, highlighting the critical role of leveling and panning in the multitrack mixing process of dangdut music. Overall, this research underscores the significance of precise mixing techniques in preserving the unique characteristics of dangdut music production.

Abstract

Kusumodilagan is an area renowned for its iron market, where the livelihoods of the community predominantly rely on iron processing. The various types of iron produced reflect the character of individuals within the society, along with the accompanying phenomena and challenges. Community activities, characterized by the sounds of iron work, have served as a source of inspiration for musical creation. This study aims to explore how to develop a musical presentation that encapsulates the lives of iron workers in Kusumodilagan. The methodology employed in this research is participatory observation, which seeks to understand and recognize the diverse sound characteristics and their social phenomena as the primary approach in the preparation of musical compositions. The findings indicate that the sounds of iron can serve as a compositional idea for musical harmony, while also engaging iron workers in the creative process. The objective of this study extends beyond artistic experience; it emphasizes the recognition of community members' existence and fosters a sense of togetherness among them.

Abstract

This research aims to analyse the musical characteristics and lyrical themes of Bring Me The Horizon (BMTH) and Bad Omens to explore the cultural values shaped through the commodification of metalcore music, drawing on Adorno’s theory of the culture industry. This research uses mixed-methods approach by examining the duration of unclean and clean vocals, as well as the lyrical themes from both bands' debut and latest albums, to identify forms of standardization. In addition, the commodification analysis incorporates audience reactions, concert ticket sales, and streaming data. The findings reveal a transition from the creative freedom of the early years to more standardized works, marked by a reduction in unclean vocal techniques, less frequent use of blast beats, and a greater emphasis on smoother melodies. This study also identifies elements of pseudo-individualization, where both bands create a sense of uniqueness while adhering to market trends to appeal to a broader audience. These findings highlight how standardization and pseudo-individualization function not only as marketing tools but also as bridges to integrate metalcore music into the mainstream market and attract new listeners.
