Abstract

RAP (Read, Ask, and Put) is a strategy that instructs students to focus their reading on a particular section of the text, consider the main idea and supporting ideas of the paragraph or passage, and then explain it in their own words. This study aims to determine the achievement of fourth-year students at Gontor for girls 2nd campus in reading comprehension using the RAP strategy since the researchers found that their reading comprehension is still low. This research used a quantitative experimental method with an experimental non-equivalent control group design. The population in this study were all fourth-year students of Gontor for girls 2nd campus with 79 students and used probability sampling which is simple random sampling. The method used in data collection is the test method and is complemented by some documentation. For the data analysis, it used the formula SPSS 22. This study concluded that the use of the RAP strategy in teaching reading comprehension on reading subjects proved effective with the formula-test acquisition value of Sig.(2.tailed) 0.009 < 0.05. Based on the conclusion, the researcher provided suggestions, they are (1) the RAP Strategy is very likely to be used to teach the reading subject to students because the students try to think critically and will understand the text with comprehension; (2) it is hoped that teachers will develop and try to apply the RAP strategy in teaching reading. Thus, the students can independently find the main idea and use their prior knowledge of vocabulary

Abstract

In this study, students' perceptions regarding their preference for digital or printed reading materials were analyzed using a quantitative approach. The research design employed was a survey with a descriptive design. This design aimed to collect opinions and preferences from students regarding their reading habits and experiences with both digital and print materials. A questionnaire was used to gather data from 103 students in grade 12 (science, social science, and language studies) at SMAN 10 Malang. The study showed that most students liked both printed and digital materials, but slightly preferred digital ones. They enjoyed reading digitally more than on paper because it was easier and convenient, though they felt equally comfortable with both. Students liked the appealing design of both, but digital content intrigued them more. They understood that both were important for learning English, but they favored digital materials for being up-to-date. However, they found it easier to take notes with printed materials. The study found that most students liked both digital and printed materials, but they slightly favored digital ones. The mean score for digital reading materials was 3.92, while for printed materials, it was 3.68. Overall, they did not find either format too difficult, finding digital materials quick to access but feeling neutral towards printed ones. Although students recognized the benefits of digital resources, their preference for learning from digital materials over print was neutral.

Abstract

Gender inequality is the unequal allocation of opportunities and rights, among people of various genders. This commonly works against one gender, typically women. This research aims to analyze Louisa May Alcott's "Little Women" with a focus on gender inequality. A qualitative approach was used in this study. This study also used theory from Fakih (2008). The findings indicated that the novel describes five different forms of gender discrimination. The first is subordination, show that Jo cannot do anything she want because of her status as women. Second, stereotypes, when a woman behaves unfavorably or imitates a man, she will be perceived as a bad woman, like what Jo did because she always do the boyish tricks. Third, marginalization, show by Jo character that can be the backbone of his family when their father go to the war. Fourth, burden of work, where the Jo and also her sibling not only work to earn money, they also work at home to clean the house. For the last form, which is violence, it did not happen in the novel. In order to rouse women at the time, gender injustice was brought up in "Little Women," and as a result, the subject came to represent the state of American society at that time. The conversation and utterances of the characters make it clear that the female characters struggle to fit in with society.
