Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of the mapati tradition in pregnancy within the Palang, Tuban community, identify the cultural elements and Islamic values embedded in it, analyze the form of interaction (acculturation) between Islam and local culture, and reveal the meaning of this tradition for the community. This research employs a descriptive qualitative approach using interviews with a local religious figure, supported by literature review. The findings show that the mapati tradition is carried out as a thanksgiving ritual at four months of pregnancy, involving Qur’anic recitations, diba’an, and collective prayers. The tradition reflects a blend of local cultural practices such as slametan and food sharing with Islamic values including gratitude, supplication, and hope for the well-being of the unborn child. The encounter between Islam and culture is evident in the integration of religious practices into local traditions. The mapati tradition is meaningful as an expression of gratitude, a prayer for safety, and a medium for strengthening social bonds. Therefore, it remains relevant as a form of harmony between Islamic teachings and local culture.

Abstract

This article aims to analyze the contribution of Generation Z in maintaining and enhancing This study aims to examine the implementation of the Sedekah Laut tradition, the process of acculturation between Islamic teachings and local culture, as well as the Islamic values contained within it in the coastal community of Karangagung Village, Palang District, Tuban Regency. This research employs a descriptive qualitative approach with a field research type supported by a literature study. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation. The results show that the implementation of the Sedekah Laut tradition consists of several stages, namely preparation, communal prayers, tumpengan, social activities, and the peak event of the ritual of offering to the sea (larung sesaji). This tradition represents a form of acculturation between pre-Islamic local culture and Islamic teachings, which occurs gradually through adjustments in meaning and practice without eliminating the original cultural elements. In addition, this tradition contains Islamic educational values, including worship values reflected in prayer activities and expressions of gratitude to Allah SWT, moral values manifested in mutual cooperation and environmental awareness, and social values demonstrated through community participation that strengthens social relationships and fosters a sense of togetherness. Therefore, the Sedekah Laut tradition functions not only as a cultural heritage but also as a medium for instilling Islamic values and strengthening the social life of the community.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the history, figures, and roles of the educational institutions Jami’at Khair and Al-Irsyad in the development of Islamic education in Indonesia. This research uses a library research method by reviewing various written sources such as books, scientific journals, and other references relevant to the topic. The results of the study show that Jami’at Khair was one of the Islamic organizations that played an important role in the reform of Islamic education in the early 20th century. This organization implemented a more modern education system by incorporating general subjects into the curriculum and applying a classical learning system. In its development, differences of opinion emerged between Ahmad Surkati and several leaders of Jami’at Khair regarding the concept of equality among Muslims. These differences later led to the establishment of a new organization, Al-Irsyad. Al-Irsyad then developed as an organization engaged in education, da'wah, and social activities by emphasizing the purification of Islamic teachings and the importance of returning to the Qur’an and Sunnah. Therefore, Jami’at Khair and Al-Irsyad have played an important role in the history of Islamic educational reform in Indonesia, particularly in developing the education system, Islamic thought, and improving the quality of Muslim society.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of Kambang Putih Port in the process of spreading Islam and its contribution to the formation of local civilization in the coastal area of Tuban. This study is motivated by the strategic position of the coastal area as a main route for maritime trade interactions, which not only brought economic commodities but also cultural and religious values. The research method used is a qualitative approach with a descriptive type, through historical and sociological approaches. Data were obtained from literature studies, observations, documentation, and interviews with community leaders, and then analyzed using an interactive analysis model with triangulation techniques to ensure the validity of the data. The results of the study show that Kambang Putih Port has an important role as a trading center as well as a social interaction space that brings together various cultural groups. Through trading activities, Islamic values were gradually introduced by Muslim traders and reinforced by the role of religious scholars through a cultural da'wah approach. The Islamization process occurred peacefully, adaptively, and contextually, allowing it to integrate with local culture without causing conflict. This interaction gave rise to a form of cultural acculturation reflected in the socio-religious practices of the community, such as tahlilan, yasinan, and community-based activities. Furthermore, this study found that the presence of the port contributed to shaping the social structure, patterns of community life, and the spatial planning of the coastal area. The port functions as an agent of social change, promoting the development of an open, adaptive, and cosmopolitan society. Thus, the local civilization in Tuban is the result of the integration between economic activities, Islamic values, and local culture that developed sustainably. This study concludes that Kambang Putih Port not only serves as a trading center but also as a space for social and civilizational transformation. These findings reinforce the understanding that the process of Islamization in the Nusantara was more influenced by trade networks and social interactions than by political power.

Abstract

Islamic Cultural History (Sejarah Kebudayaan Islam/SKI) learning plays an important role in developing students’ understanding as well as character. This is because SKI learning not only presents historical events but also contains moral values and exemplary lessons that can be applied in daily life. This article aims to analyze effective classroom management in SKI learning by examining its concepts, principles, approaches, as well as supporting and inhibiting factors that influence the success of the learning process. This study employs a library research method by reviewing various relevant sources, including books, scientific journals, and previous studies, which are then analyzed descriptively to obtain a comprehensive understanding of the topic. The findings indicate that effective classroom management is characterized by teachers’ friendly and enthusiastic attitudes, the use of varied teaching methods, flexibility in instruction, and the implementation of positive discipline. Classroom management approaches that can be applied include authority, freedom, socio-emotional, group process, and behavior modification approaches, adjusted to classroom conditions. Supporting factors include a comfortable learning environment, harmonious social relationships, and the availability of adequate learning media. Meanwhile, the obstacles encountered include an excessive number of students, limited facilities, and the use of less varied teaching methods. In conclusion, creative and innovative classroom management can enhance students’ motivation, participation, and understanding of SKI materials. Therefore, teachers need to create a conducive learning environment in order to achieve learning objectives optimally.
