Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of work ethic on employee performance, either directly or through work motivation as a mediating variable at SMA YPK Merauke. Employee performance is an important factor in achieving quality education, so it needs to be improved through strengthening work ethic and motivation. Work ethic is understood as a positive attitude and responsibility towards work, while work motivation refers to internal and external drives that affect an individual's work ethic. This study uses a quantitative approach with a population of 105 employees, and the sampling technique is carried out in saturated samples. The data analysis technique used is Partial Least Square (PLS) with the help of SmartPLS 3.0 software. The results of the study show that work ethic has a positive and significant effect on employee performance, both directly and indirectly through work motivation. Work motivation has been proven to be a mediating variable that strengthens the relationship between work ethic and employee performance. These findings provide practical implications for school management to improve employee performance through the development of a work ethic and effective work motivation.

Abstract

The era of digital transformation and the complexity of modern organizational performance demands encourage the application of coaching and mentoring as a human resource development strategy. This study analyzes the influence of coaching and mentoring on the work motivation of employees in Sijunjung Regency, with self-efficacy as a mediator. The phenomenon in the field shows a disparity in work motivation between employees who participate in coaching and mentoring programs and those who do not, where the first group has higher self-efficacy and work motivation. A quantitative approach with an explanatory causality method was used on 125 employees through purposive sampling. Data was collected with a 5-point Likert scale questionnaire and analyzed using PLS-based SEM via SmartPLS. The results showed that coaching had a significant effect on work motivation (β = 0.711) and self-efficacy (β = 0.820), while mentoring had a significant effect on work motivation (β = 0.904) and self-efficacy (β = 0.856). Self-efficacy also mediates the influence of coaching and mentoring on work motivation. The research model showed R² 0.754 for self-efficacy and 0.044 for work motivation with a Q² of 0.996, indicating excellent predictive relevance. The findings affirm the important role of self-efficacy as a mediator and make theoretical and practical contributions to human resource development in local governments.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of motivation on the performance of women Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Purbalingga Regency with family support as a moderation variable. A quantitative approach was used by distributing questionnaires to 150 respondents who were members of the Purbalingga Entrepreneur Muslim community. Data analysis was carried out using the Partial Least Square (PLS-SEM) method. The results of the study show that motivation has a positive and significant effect on the performance of women MSME actors. Family support has also been shown to have a positive and significant effect on performance, especially through emotional and practical aspects. However, family support is not significant in moderating the relationship between motivation and performance, which means internal motivation is a major factor driving performance improvement. These findings confirm that women's empowerment programs for MSME actors are more effective when they focus on strengthening individual motivation, while the role of the family functions as additional indirect support.

Abstract

This phenomenological study explores how women entrepreneurs in Makassar’s beauty and wellness sector strategically leverage Word-of-Mouth (WOM) marketing as a relational economic mechanism for customer acquisition and retention. Anchored in a humanistic-economic perspective, the research examines how trust, emotional labor, and social capital function as non-financial assets that substitute for capital-intensive marketing strategies in resource-constrained contexts. Using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) on semi-structured interviews with salon owners, beauticians, and spa entrepreneurs, three superordinate themes emerged: (1) Trust as the Primary Economic Currency, emphasizing integrity and competence as foundations of customer advocacy; (2) Emotional Labor as Strategic Investment, highlighting empathy and personalized care as deliberate economic resources; and (3) The Social Network as Market Infrastructure, illustrating how localized community ties and digital interactions form efficient, low-cost distribution channels for business growth. The findings reveal that WOM in this sector is not merely a promotional outcome but a relational economic system rooted in cultural trust, affective commitment, and collective reciprocity. The study contributes to the literature by advancing a humanistic-economic framework for relational marketing, demonstrating how feminine entrepreneurship transforms social and emotional capital into measurable economic value.

Abstract

While start-ups are often celebrated as agile and egalitarian spaces that disrupt traditional hierarchies, women leaders within them continue to navigate gendered expectations, institutional ambiguities, and cultural constraints—particularly in emerging entrepreneurial ecosystems of the Global South. Drawing on in-depth phenomenological interviews with 10–12 women leading start-up teams across technology, creative, and service sectors in Makassar, Indonesia, this study explores how these leaders construct, enact, and sustain leadership amidst intersecting global norms and local socio-cultural logics. Findings reveal that participants engage in continuous relational labor to assert legitimacy, craft hybrid leadership models that blend strategic agency with communal care, and reinterpret domestic roles as both resources and constraints. Rather than conforming to dominant masculine entrepreneurial archetypes, they mobilize narrative, empathy, and ethical stewardship to build team cohesion and organizational identity. This research contributes to transnational feminist scholarship by centering the lived experience of women in Southeast Asian start-ups, challenging universalist assumptions in entrepreneurship theory, and highlighting the need for culturally grounded, gender-responsive support ecosystems.

Abstract

This phenomenological study examines how women micro-entrepreneurs in Makassar’s informal economy construct and exercise financial agency amid persistent economic precarity. Grounded in a humanistic economic perspective, the research explores how women navigate financial risk and uncertainty through informal strategies, social capital, and adaptive resilience. Drawing on in-depth interviews, three superordinate themes emerged: (1) The Dual Nature of Social Capital, revealing that trust-based financial networks function simultaneously as safety nets and sources of moral burden; (2) Financial Improvisation as Agency, illustrating how women deploy creative financial practices—such as flexible budgeting and strategic concealment of profits—to retain control and autonomy; and (3) The Temporal Duality of Resilience, emphasizing the continuous oscillation between short-term survival priorities and long-term aspirations in an unstable market context. The findings demonstrate that financial decision-making in Makassar’s informal sector transcends conventional economic rationality, instead reflecting socially embedded, context-specific negotiations of agency and dependence. The study contributes theoretically to the discourse on women’s entrepreneurship by reframing financial agency as an evolving, relational process rooted in everyday resilience rather than formal inclusion. Policy implications highlight the need for human-centered interventions that recognize and strengthen women’s adaptive financial practices, mitigate the hidden costs of social capital, and support sustainable microenterprise growth in Indonesia’s informal economy.

Abstract

This study explores how the indigenous values of Siri’ (dignity, honor) and Pacce (compassion, shared feeling) shape human resource management (HRM) practices among micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Makassar, Indonesia. Using a qualitative case study design, the research examines leadership as a cultural-economic institution in which moral commitments guide organizational behavior, employee motivation, and firm resilience. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, participant observation, and document analysis involving ten MSME leaders in the trade, culinary, and craft sectors. Thematic analysis revealed that Siri’ informed dignity-preserving disciplinary practices and accountability norms, while Pacce manifested through mutual aid systems and empathetic management. Decision-making was consensus-oriented, integrating hierarchical authority with community deliberation. These practices produced positive HRM outcomes such as job satisfaction, loyalty, and ethical reputation, yet also imposed financial and emotional strains due to the moral obligation to preserve collective welfare. The findings suggest that Siri’ na Pacce-based leadership functions as a moral economy that substitutes social capital and emotional intelligence for formal control systems. This culturally grounded model enhances organizational legitimacy and sustainability but requires careful balancing between moral duty and economic pragmatism. The study contributes to humanist economic theory by demonstrating how local wisdom can inform dignity-centered, relational HRM systems in developing contexts.
