Abstract

This community service activity aims to increase students' understanding of the environmental impacts of mining activities and foster an environmentally conscious character among students at SMA Negeri 2 North Gorontalo. The background to this activity is based on the increasing number of environmental problems caused by mining activities, such as water pollution, land degradation, declining air quality, and ecosystem degradation. Therefore, educational efforts are needed to raise awareness among the younger generation about the importance of environmental conservation. The method used in this activity is participatory outreach and education through material delivery, interactive discussions, questions and answers, and motivation related to environmentally friendly behavior. The target group for this activity was 30 students at SMA Negeri 2 North Gorontalo. Evaluation of the activity was conducted through observation, documentation, and the distribution of questionnaires to measure the level of understanding of participants after participating in the activity. The results showed that students responded very positively and demonstrated a high level of participation throughout the program. Based on the questionnaire results, 80% of students were in the high understanding category, 13.33% in the medium category, and 6.67% in the low category. These findings indicate that the educational activity successfully increased students' knowledge of environmental issues in mining while fostering environmental awareness and character. Thus, environmental education based on mining issues can be an effective strategy for developing environmental literacy, ecological awareness, and environmental responsibility in the younger generation as part of efforts to achieve sustainable development.

Abstract

The development of information and communication technology has encouraged the use of digital learning media to improve the quality of the learning process in schools. One such media is Google Sites, a website-based platform that allows for interactive presentation of learning materials through the integration of text, images, videos, and various other learning resources. This study aims to analyze student responses to the use of Google Sites as a Geography learning medium at SMA Negeri 1 Kabila. The study used a quantitative descriptive approach with 20 students of grades X-11 as research subjects. Data were collected through a Likert scale questionnaire covering five assessment aspects, namely appearance and accessibility, learning engagement and motivation, understanding of material and learning outcomes, ease of interaction and communication, and advantages and disadvantages of learning media. Data analysis was carried out using a percentage technique to measure the level of student responses to the use of Google Sites. The results showed that 80% of students stated that they strongly agreed, 15% agreed, and 5% disagreed with the use of Google Sites in Geography learning. These findings indicate that Google Sites received a very positive response because it was able to increase learning motivation, facilitate access to materials, support conceptual understanding, and create more interactive and flexible learning. Thus, Google Sites can be used as an alternative effective website-based learning media to support Geography learning and improve the quality of learning in the digital era.Analisis Respon Siswa terhadap Penggunaan Google Sites sebagai Media Pembelajaran Geografi di SMA Negeri 1 Kabila

Abstract

The Makale area, Tana Toraja, South Sulawesi (119°19′05″–120°09′16″ E; 02°36′03″–03°24′13″ S) features a complex geological setting with limited detailed data. This study maps its geology through 54 observation stations, thin-section petrography, geomorphological classification, and Landsat 8 band 5-6-7 lineament interpretation. Stratigraphically, the area comprises four units from oldest to youngest: Early–Middle Miocene Makale Formation limestones, classified as Foraminiferal Rudstone (±28%, grain-supported, 1% porosity) and Foraminiferal Packstone (±29%, mud-supported, 2% porosity) per Embry and Klovan (1971); the Middle Miocene–Pliocene Sekala Formation sandstone (±20%); and the youngest alluvial deposits (±24%). Geomorphologically, the terrain is divided into karst hills with tower karst morphology (±57%), denudational hills (±20%), and fluvial valleys (±24%). Lineament analysis reveals a dominant north–south structural trend, validated by field lithological contacts.

Abstract

This research was conducted to identify geomorphological units and analyze the characteristics of land form in the Botubarani region and its surroundings, Bone Bolango Regency, as the basis for understanding the development of natural landscapes and spatial planning in coastal areas. This analysis is carried out through the interpretation of topographic maps, DEM data and field observations to explain the relationship between lithology, geological structures and geomorphic processes that form the landscape. The research results show that Botubarani and its surroundings are composed of four main landforms, namely, intrusion hills, volcanic hills, denudational hills and aluvial plains. Variations in altitude, slope slope and river flow patterns illustrate the influence of longitudinal topography, resistant rocks and active exogenous processes. This finding shows that the geomorphological diversity of Botubarani is the result of the interaction between past tectonic activity, lithological character, and continuous surface processes. This research provides a more detailed and relevant geomorphological mapping to support the study of environmental vulnerability, hazard mitigation, and coastal area utilization planning.

Abstract

Gorontalo City is an urban area vulnerable to geological and hydrometeorological hazards, including earthquakes, landslides, floods, coastal abrasion, and tsunamis. Spatial planning is an important instrument for disaster risk reduction through the regulation of disaster-prone areas, protected areas, and spatial utilization control. This study aims to examine the substance of geological disaster mitigation in Gorontalo City Regional Regulation Number 9 of 2019 concerning the 2019–2039 Spatial Plan. This research employed a qualitative approach using content analysis of the spatial planning document, particularly sections related to disaster-prone areas, active fault buffer zones, earthquake-prone areas, and zoning provisions. The findings show that the Gorontalo City Spatial Plan has accommodated disaster mitigation through the designation of disaster-prone areas, protection of conservation areas, control of cultivation activities, and provision of evacuation routes and spaces. However, these provisions still require more detailed technical elaboration, particularly regarding the spatial boundaries of active fault buffer zones, safe distances from fault lines, hazard classification, and technical requirements for development in disaster-prone areas. Therefore, strengthening detailed spatial plans, zoning regulations, integration of disaster hazard maps, and supervision of spatial utilization is essential to support safer and more sustainable urban development in Gorontalo City. Keywords: disaster mitigation, Spatial Plans (RTRW). The Gorontalo region's geological conditions are influenced by tectonic activity and the presence, active faults, earthquakes, spatial planning.

Abstract

Shade trees are an important element of roadside green corridors that contribute to improving urban environmental quality. This study aims to identify and analyze the characteristics of shade trees along arterial and collector roads in Gorontalo City. A quantitative descriptive method was applied using a spatial analysis approach based on Geographic Information Systems. Data were collected through field observation, vegetation inventory, GPS-based coordinate recording, tree characteristic measurements, and documentation. The results show that there were 1,140 shade trees consisting of 15 species. Mahogany was the dominant species, with 333 trees or 29.21%. Tree characteristics were dominated by medium height of 5–10 m at 60.44%, crown width of 2.5–5.0 m at 57.81%, and trunk diameter of 50–100 cm at 50.88%. The general physical condition of the trees was mostly good, particularly trunk condition at 99.56%, leaf condition at 95.88%, branching condition at 91.58%, and root condition at 69.56%. These findings indicate that shade trees in Gorontalo City support ecological functions, aesthetic quality, and urban environmental comfort.

Abstract

This study examines the zoning and spatial use directives for geological hazard-prone areas in the Regional Spatial Plan of Boalemo Regency for 2025–2045. The study is important because spatial planning documents should function not only as development guidance but also as an instrument for geological disaster mitigation. This research used a qualitative descriptive approach with content analysis of the Boalemo Regency Spatial Planning Regulation document and supporting scientific literature. The analysis focused on three aspects: the existence of geological hazards in the spatial plan, the regulatory depth of zoning and special provisions, and the relationship between settlement allocation and potential geological vulnerability. The results show that geological disaster mitigation has been accommodated in a general way through protected areas, disaster evacuation systems, and disaster risk programs. However, the regulation has not yet explicitly classified geological hazard zones or firmly regulated non-buildable areas. This indicates that the regional spatial plan still requires stronger integration of geohazard mitigation to support safe long-term regional development.
