Abstract

The increasing need for spices in the world triggers various expeditions to find sources of spices in the world. The activity of searching for the origin of these spices gave birth to international trade systems and routes. The emergence of this spice route resulted in the emergence of trading ports which became the forerunner to the emergence of new kingdoms. Jepara was one of the kingdoms that emerged because it had a port in a strategic area on the spice trade route. The hustle and bustle of trading activities in Jepara also affects the social life of the Jepara people who have long been known for their carving skills. Traders who come from various parts of the country and abroad open up opportunities for cultural mixing, which has an impact on culture, expertise, and the application of patterns in the art of Jepara wood carving. In this paper, the researcher tries to mitigate the development and influence of acculturation brought by foreign traders with a historiography method to make it easier to read the impact of the maritime spice route on the development of carving in Jepara. The results of this study shows the application of various wood carving motifs to various artifacts as a result of the influence of the mixed culture in Jepara at that time.

Abstract

Zero waste is a concept applied by industry by maximizing the use of fabrics which aims to reduce textile waste. One of the zero-waste methods that can maximize the dimensions of the fabric is the geometric technique. The zero-waste method can be applied to demi-couture clothing which produces quite a lot of waste with a total of 20% pre-production waste. Demi couture includes clothing that requires high craftmanship and is specially made with a limited number of productions Therefore, the application of Sengkang weaving can be used as a demi-couture dress because of the quality and price of the Sengkang weaving are relatively high. The use of the craft on the Sengkang weaving must also be maximized. Therefore, the Sengkang weaving needs to maximize the dimensions of the fabric using the concept of zero waste fashion design. The purpose of this research is an effort to optimize the zero-waste pattern on clothing for the sake of couture by using woven as a zero-waste fashion design product. The research method is to use a qualitative method with an exploration of the pattern of zero waste fashion design. The final result of this research is a fashion design for the sake of couture with the application of Sengkang woven fabric using the zero waste fashion design method.

Abstract

Bible stories use illustrations in Christian religious education, especially for Sunday School children. Currently, there are various variations of Jesus cartoon illustrations available on the internet. So Sunday school teachers can freely choose a variety of cartoons. In addition to helping the teacher, there are several problems with the cartoon illustration. The cartoon style facilitates humor and satire through distortion and exaggeration of form. This opens up opportunities to present counterproductive visualizations of Jesus comparing the Bible. So that visually the cartoon can actually contain messages that are different or even contrary to the principles of the Christian faith being taught. Behind the cartoon illustration of Jesus, there are certain perspectives, values and beliefs. This study aims to reveal the messages conveyed by popular culture through the cartoon style of the Jesus illustrations. For data collection, the authors conducted visual observations, literature studies, and analysis of the visual elements of the Jesus cartoon illustrations. This is done by referring to the context of the popular culture it represents. The conclusion of the study reveals various popular culture messages contained in certain Jesus cartoon illustrations. These messages are generally not in harmony with the character of Jesus Christ that the Bible teaches. The results of the research are expected to help Christian religious educators to choose the right illustrations. Especially for Sunday school teachers in choosing a cartoon illustration of Jesus Christ.

Abstract

Batik is a traditional Indonesian fabric with a blend of art and technology that has been recorded by UNESCO as one of the intangible world heritages. The Indonesian Batik Museum was established by the government to preserve, provide insight, and understanding of Nusantara batik to the public. To keep up with the times, museums are currently more focused on the visitor experience and not just as a repository of collections. However, at this time, there is still a lack of public interest in visiting and a lack of promotion on Museum Batik Indonesia’s social media. Hopefully, after visiting Museum Batik Indonesia, the mindset of visitors about Indonesian batik will change. The purpose of this promotional design is to increase the interest of the younger generation in visiting the Museum Batik Indonesia. Batik is Indonesia’s proud asset and deserves to be preserved, so it is necessary to introduce the history, meaning and various types of batik to the younger generation. Museum Batik Indonesia is a facility that can include education about Indonesian batik. The promotion design of Museum Batik Indonesia is using the AIDA (Awareness, Interest, Desire, Action) marketing strategy on Instagram. The design of this promotion includes various information about Museum Batik Indonesia and knowledge about batik in general, which is expected to increase the interest of the younger generation to wear, understand and love Indonesian batik.

Abstract

The development of digital world technology is increasingly popular today, which causes teenagers to be faced with challenges and temptations to enjoy entertainment that no longer prioritizes worship and spiritual discipline. One of the spiritual disciplines is to do devotional time to help Christian youth build positive behavior in accordance with the teachings of the Bible. However, Christian teenagers find it difficult to do devotional time regularly and often feel bored when doing devotional time. This design was made to interest Christian teenagers to do devotional time and encourage them to be able to apply it regularly. This design uses research methods with a qualitative perspective, with interview and observation data collection techniques. Collecting data on devotional time, the behavior of Christian youth in Indonesia, the use of Instagram social media, and illustration techniques as a media approach. The illustration style uses cartoon style to interest Christian youth. The media approach uses post-modernism theory by using new ways to introduce devotional time that is increasingly being forgotten in modern days. The results of the design are in the form of Instagram feeds that provide contents about introduction, invitations, and guidance to do devotional time with character illustrations. Hopefully through this design, Christian teens can start taking their time to do devotional time.

Abstract

Yul Gendhis Batik (YGB) is one of the micro batik businesses engaged in the fashion sector. Since 2010 YGB has focused on selling offline because the advantages of selling offline are enough. However, from March to May 2020 when the Covid-19 virus entered Indonesia, YGB suffered heavy losses. Therefore, a breakthrough promotion strategy is needed in the form of online media that is more structured and well integrated so that YGB can sell and carry out promotions. Previously, an online media design for YGB had been carried out but the consumer purchase flow, design, and upload time were inconsistent. To design online media, data is needed, namely visual data through observations on YGB and its competitors, data about future plans, concepts and thoughts and consumer tastes obtained through interviews. Analysis using SWOT analysis. The results of the design are uploads to Instagram, websites, Facebook, and online catalogs on WhatsApp business. Through the results of this design, YGB can continue to grow and expand its business reach both through offline and online media.
