Abstract

The global climate crisis has evolved from a mere environmental issue into a profound crisis of justice, with its impacts felt disproportionately by developing countries and vulnerable groups. Indonesia, with its high geographical and socio-economic vulnerability, has become one of the main arenas for the manifestation of this climate injustice. This article, compiled through qualitative literature study methods, argues that Islamic Education has a strategic role in shaping climate justice awareness and ethics. Still, its potential has not been optimally exploited. The analysis shows a significant gap between the visionary curriculum objectives and the teaching materials, which tend to be partial and do not respond to the urgency of the crisis. This article proposes an ethical framework rooted in Maqasid al-Shariah to bridge this gap. By reconceptualising Maqasid and placing environmental preservation (Hifz al-Bi'ah) as the foundation for the other five essential pillars (al-dharuriyyat al-khamsah), this framework can transform the discourse from mere nature conservation to the struggle for justice. The implications of this framework demand a double transformation in Islamic Education: content enrichment that integrates contextual case studies of climate justice in Indonesia, a deepening of ecological interpretation, and a methodological revolution through the adoption of action-oriented Project-Based Learning (PjBL). This transformation is expected to equip the younger generation of Muslims to become agents of change who can respond to the challenges of climate justice in a critical and constructive

Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of the Project Based Learning (PjBL) model in improving students’ learning outcomes in Fiqh among grade VIII A students at a madrasah tsanawiyah. The research employed a Classroom Action Research (CAR) approach conducted in two cycles, each consisting of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection stages. Data were collected through observation, tests, and documentation. Observation was used to record teacher and student activities, tests were conducted to obtain data on learning outcomes, and documentation was used to capture the learning process. The average mastery score in the first cycle was 57%, which increased to 96% in the second cycle. These findings indicate a change in learning outcomes following the implementation of the PjBL model in Fiqh learning.

Abstract

The modernization of Islamic education is an inevitable necessity in responding to the dynamics of contemporary civilization characterized by the advancement of science, technology, and socio-political transformation. This article aims to analyze the concept of Islamic education modernization as an effort to relate Islamic values to the challenges of modernity while preserving the essence of Islamic spirituality and morality. Using a descriptive-qualitative approach and literature analysis from various scholarly sources on contemporary Islamic education, the study reveals that modernization involves curriculum reconstruction, integration between religious and general sciences, and the utilization of digital technology in learning. Socio-political dynamics play a significant role in shaping educational policies, while key challenges include the dichotomy of knowledge, inequality of educational facilities, and limited teacher competence in pedagogical innovation. Nevertheless, the future prospects of Islamic education remain promising if modernization is directed toward developing a progressive, humanistic, and value-based educational system. Thus, modernization should not be equated with westernization but understood as a continuous renewal process to meet modern challenges while maintaining Islamic identity.

Abstract

The rapid advancement of contemporary sciences often neglects ethical and spiritual foundations, creating a gap between scientific progress and Qur’anic guidance. Previous studies on tafsir maudhu’i have focused on methodology and thematic application but have not systematically developed an integrative epistemological model relevant to Islamic education. This study aims to formulate the Integrative Epistemology of Tafsir Maudhu’i as a conceptual framework for bridging revelation with modern sciences and educational practices. Employing a qualitative library research design, the study analyzes classical tafsir, contemporary exegetical works, and recent scholarly contributions, supported by descriptive, comparative, and normative-contextual analysis. The findings reveal that tafsir maudhu’i integrates normative Qur’anic values, epistemological principles, and practical applications in addressing contemporary challenges such as artificial intelligence ethics, bioethics, environmental sustainability, and religious pluralism. The research advances tafsir studies by introducing a new epistemological model that unites text, reason, and social reality. This model offers practical guidance for Islamic Religious Education curricula, policymaking, and interdisciplinary dialogue between religion and science. The study concludes that tafsir maudhu’i is not merely a hermeneutical method but also an alternative epistemology capable of renewing Islamic thought and contributing to global ethical discourse.

Abstract

Modern education positions the learning process as an active and reflective activity centered on the learner. Learning is no longer understood as a one-way knowledge transfer process, but rather as a dynamic interaction between learners, teachers, and the learning environment. This paper discusses the concepts of learning and teaching in modern education, the theories that underlie them, and the implications of applying modern educational principles to contemporary learning practices. The study was conducted through a literature analysis of various relevant studies in the last five years that highlight the importance of constructivism, humanism, and connectivism as the foundation for developing a modern learning system. The results of the discussion indicate that modern education demands a paradigm shift from teacher-centered learning to student-centered learning that emphasizes independence, collaboration, creativity, and lifelong learning. The application of these principles has a significant impact on improving the quality of learning, teacher competence, and active student involvement in the learning process. The implications of this research indicate that the success of modern education is highly dependent on teachers' ability to facilitate a learning environment that is adaptive to technological developments and the needs of the times.

Abstract

The phenomenon of moral degradation and character crisis among the younger generation demands a transformation of Islamic education to become more contextual and rooted in local culture. This article aims to examine a new paradigm of integrating Minangkabau culture and Islamic education in shaping contextual character in West Sumatra. The study employs a qualitative method through library research and content analysis of relevant literature on ethnopedagogy, the philosophy of “Adat Basandi Syarak, Syarak Basandi Kitabullah”, and Islamic educational theory. The findings reveal that integrating local values such as deliberation (musyawarah), modesty (malu), and mutual cooperation (gotong royong) with Islamic principles such as syura, al-hayā’, and ta’awun produces an educational model that is religious, humanistic, and adaptive to social dynamics. Islamic education based on local wisdom strengthens cultural identity, shapes moral character, and promotes religious moderation and social harmony. This paradigm affirms that Islam is not merely a theological norm but a living culture that guides the formation of insan adabi the civilized human. Therefore, the integration of Minangkabau cultural values and Islamic education offers a contextual educational model relevant to strengthening the moral and spiritual foundation of the younger generation in the global era.

Abstract

Muslim concerning divine assurance (Divine Assurance) for the endurance of the Muslim ummah. Employing a qualitative library research method with a hermeneutic approach, this research analyzes classical commentaries and contemporary interpretations to explore the relevance of the hadith to Islamic education and community resilience. The findings reveal that divine assurance emphasizes collective protection rather than individual immunity, signifying that the strength of the ummah lies in unity, moral integrity, and spiritual awareness. Internal division, moral degradation, and loss of faith are identified as dominant factors that threaten Islamic civilization. The study also finds that the hadith provides a pedagogical foundation for strengthening Islamic brotherhood., Islamic ethics, and character formation through education based on faith and morality. The conclusion asserts that Islamic education must serve as an instrument of ummah resilience, integrating faith, knowledge, and ethics to produce the man of adab humans of virtue, intellect, and social responsibility capable of preserving unity and reviving Islamic civilization amid modern global challenges.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the concept of Tazkiyah al-Nafs in Islamic education and its relevance to Abraham Maslow's Self-Actualization theory. Using a qualitative approach with library research methods, this study examines primary and secondary sources related to both concepts. The results show that Tazkiyah al-Nafs which is the process of soul purification through the stages of takhalli (cleansing), tahalli (embellishment), and tajalli (illumination) has significant convergence with Maslow's hierarchy of needs toward self-actualization. Both concepts emphasize the importance of developing human potential gradually and holistically. However, the fundamental difference lies in their ultimate goals: while self-actualization focuses on the actualization of human potential, Tazkiyah al-Nafs leads to the achievement of ma'rifatullah (knowledge of God) and His pleasure as a transcendental goal. The findings of this study offer an integrative model that can enrich educational practices by combining the dimensions of Islamic spirituality and modern humanistic psychology.

Abstract

The rise of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has significantly influenced Islamic legal reasoning, particularly in data processing, textual analysis, and the acceleration of jurisprudential decision-making. This study examines how AI reshapes methodological approaches to ijtihād, redefines the authority of fatwa institutions, and interacts with the epistemological foundations of Islamic law. Employing a qualitative method through literature review, the research engages classical usūl al-fiqh texts and contemporary works on AI and Islamic ethics. The findings reveal that AI acts as an assistant to ijtihād by enhancing analytical efficiency, yet it cannot replace human jurists due to its inability to comprehend maqāṣid, moral judgement, and socio-cultural context. The study also identifies the need for a “collective AI-assisted ijtihād model” to maintain accuracy, objectivity, and normative legitimacy. It concludes that AI must operate within the framework of maqāṣid al-sharīʿah and digital ethics to ensure that fatwas remain valid, adaptive, and accountable.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the integration of the values of excellence for the Muslim ummah in the Islamic education curriculum through a conceptual study of the first Qudsi hadith. The approach employed is literature-based conceptual analysis, examining various sources such as journals, articles, and classical texts. The research findings indicate that the Qudsi hadith plays a significant role in strengthening the spiritual, moral, and social dimensions of Islamic education. The values contained within it, such as mercy, justice, patience, and sincerity, not only enrich theological understanding but can also be integrated as core competencies in the Islamic education curriculum. This integration fosters the balanced character development of students across cognitive, affective, and spiritual aspects. Furthermore, the Qudsi hadith serves as a moral foundation for instilling universal values like compassion, social responsibility, and civilized justice. Thus, reinforcing the values of excellence for the ummah through education becomes a crucial strategy in building a generation of Muslims who are noble in character, moderate, and relevant to global challenges.
