Abstract

The aging process in the elderly results in a decline in physiological function that directly impacts self-care abilities and, if suboptimal, risks triggering skin infections and reducing quality of life. Health education is needed as a crucial promotive strategy to increase awareness and understanding of the elderly in implementing clean and healthy living behaviors independently. This quantitative study aims to analyze the effect of health education on changes in personal hygiene behavior in the elderly. The study design used a one-group pretest-posttest conducted from February to June 2026. A sample of 35 respondents was selected through a purposive sampling technique. Data were obtained through questionnaires and observations, then analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test. The results showed that before education, the majority of respondents had adequate behavior (62.9%). After the educational intervention through leaflets and demonstrations, there was a significant increase with 82.9% of respondents being categorized as good. Statistical analysis produced a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05) with a Z-value of -5.162, thus it can be concluded that the intervention had a significant impact on respondents' behavior. It was concluded that there was a significant influence of providing health education on improving the personal hygiene behavior of the elderly in Tijue Village, Pidie District. It is recommended to make personal hygiene education a routine program in elderly health services.

Abstract

Cardiac arrest is a medical emergency that can occur anywhere; 73.9% of cases occur outside hospitals and are often witnessed by members of the public. In Balekerto Village, 9 of 10 members of the Karang Taruna (youth organization) did not know how to provide first aid for cardiac arrest, indicating a significant knowledge deficit regarding Basic Life Support (BLS). This study aimed to describe changes in the knowledge and skills of Karang Taruna members following health education on BLS. Using a qualitative descriptive design with a case study approach on three Karang Taruna members aged 16-30 years who had a BLS knowledge deficit, education was delivered over three sessions through lectures, demonstration, and re-demonstration. Data were collected using pre- and post-test questionnaires, a BLS standard operating procedure checklist, and the Indonesian Nursing Outcome Standard (SLKI) Knowledge Level indicator (L.12111). Results showed that all respondents experienced an increase in knowledge: Mr. R improved from 50% (poor) to 70% (moderate), while Mr. S and Mr. F improved from moderate to 80% (good). In terms of skills, Mr. S and Mr. F completed all 20 steps of the BLS procedure, while Mr. R completed 18 of 20 steps. The SLKI evaluation also showed improvement across all knowledge indicators. It is concluded that BLS health education through lectures, demonstration, and re-demonstration is effective in improving the knowledge and skills of Karang Taruna members in managing cardiac arrest in Balekerto Village.

Abstract

Preeclampsia is a pregnancy complication that causes anxiety in pregnant women and potentially increases risks for both mother and fetus. Anxiety in pregnant women can be managed using non-pharmacological therapies, such as Benson's relaxation. This study aims to determine the outcomes of implementing Benson's Relaxation on Anxiety targeting Pregnant Women with Preeclampsia in the Sukarahayu Community Health Center (Puskesmas) Work Area. The research method used was descriptive with a case study approach involving three anxious pregnant women with preeclampsia. Anxiety levels were measured using the Perinatal Anxiety Screening Scale (PASS) questionnaire. The Benson relaxation intervention was administered for 3 days, twice a day, with a duration of 15 minutes per session. The results showed a decrease in anxiety levels in all three patients. In Patient 1, there was a reduction from severe anxiety with an anxiety score of 65 to mild anxiety with a score of 36; Patient 2 decreased from mild anxiety with a score of 33 to no anxiety with a score of 20; and Patient 3 decreased from severe anxiety with a score of 45 to mild anxiety with a score of 29. Benson's Relaxation successfully reduces anxiety in pregnant women with preeclampsia. This therapy can be utilized as an easy, safe, and independent non-pharmacological intervention to help control anxiety during pregnancy. Nurses are expected to provide education and guidance so that this technique can be performed independently by patients, alongside a longer intervention period to achieve more optimal results.

Abstract

Optimal nurse performance can be achieved through high work motivation and a supportive work environment, both of which play essential roles in facilitating the implementation of nursing duties and contribute significantly to the successful delivery of nursing care by staff nurses. This study aimed to determine the relationship between work motivation, work environment, and the performance of staff nurses in the inpatient wards of Sundari General Hospital, Medan. This study employed an analytical observational design with a cross-sectional approach. The sampling technique used was non-probability sampling through total sampling, involving 30 respondents. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire. The results showed that 22 respondents (73.3%) had high work motivation and good performance, while 16 respondents (53.3%) reported a good work environment and demonstrated good performance. The results of the Chi-square test indicated a significant relationship between work motivation and work environment with the performance of staff nurses in the inpatient wards of Sundari General Hospital, Medan. Abstract

Nursing students face high academic demands, such as a heavy course load, clinical practice, and complex academic requirements. These conditions can trigger academic procrastination and academic burnout, which are characterized by emotional exhaustion, a cynical attitude toward assignments, and a decline in personal achievement. These two conditions are believed to be interrelated and to influence students’ academic performance. This study aims to determine the relationship between academic burnout and academic procrastination among nursing students at the Subang State Polytechnic. This study employed a quantitative design with a cross-sectional approach, involving a population of 365 active students in the D-III Nursing Program at the Subang State Polytechnic. The sample consisted of 196 students selected using stratified random sampling. The research instruments used were the School Burnout Inventory (SBI) and the Academic Procrastination Scale-Short Form (APS-S). Data analysis was performed using the Spearman rank correlation test. There was a significant positive relationship between academic burnout and academic procrastination (r = 0.408; p < 0.001) with a moderate strength of association. The higher the level of academic burnout, the higher the level of academic procrastination. Students are encouraged to improve their stress management skills, develop adaptive coping strategies, practice good time management, and utilize social support to reduce academic pressure. The findings of this study have implications for nursing education institutions to develop academic burnout prevention programs as a means of reducing academic procrastination among students.

Abstract

Scabies is a skin disease endemic to tropical and subtropical regions, caused by infestation and sensitization by the Sarcoptes scabies mite. Its primary symptom is nocturnal itching that disrupts daily activities and productivity. Scabies has the potential to spread rapidly within communities such as Islamic boarding schools particularly where sanitation is inadequate. This study aimed to improve understanding and provide education regarding adolescent behaviors concerning environmental sanitation for scabies prevention at the Bina Ulama Asahan Islamic boarding school. A quantitative descriptive survey design was employed, with a sample of 79 individuals selected from the total population using simple random sampling. The results revealed that the majority of respondents (54 individuals or 70.9%) possessed a good level of knowledge regarding environmental sanitation for scabies prevention. Similarly, the majority of respondents (56 individuals or 68.4%) demonstrated a positive attitude toward environmental sanitation for scabies prevention. Continuous educational reinforcement is necessary to ensure that this positive knowledge and attitude regarding scabies prevention are fully applied in daily life, given that the environment of Islamic boarding schools possesses characteristics conducive to scabies transmission in the absence of adequate preventive measures.
