Abstract

The process of gradually stockpiling waste in landfill areas can produce problems in the form of leachate that can seep into the soil and rivers, which can cause a decrease in groundwater quality. The type of research used in quantitative research with observational descriptive method. The three borehole water samples taken from the research site contained cadmium and lead. The results of cadmium levels obtained (0.00001 mg/L) meet the requirements for clean water quality according to PERMENKES No. 416 of 1990 (0.005 mg/L), while lead levels in the first and second samples meet the requirements for clean water quality (<0.05 mg/L), while in the third sample, the lead level obtained was 0.0527 mg/L, which exceeds the amount required for clean water quality (0.05 mg/L). Abstract

Tobacco use is a major health burden in Indonesia, especially among men, while the use of cessation aids remains low. Although more individuals are attempting to quit, factors influencing successful cessation are not fully understood. This cross-sectional study analyzed data from the 2021 Global Adult Tobacco Survey (GATS) Indonesia. A total of 1,111 respondents aged ≥15 years who had ever smoked were included. Kaplan-Meier survival curves and Cox proportional hazard models assessed demographic and behavioral predictors of smoking cessation. Among respondents, 68.9% had quit smoking for at least 12 months. Women were more likely to quit than men (aHR = 4.23; 95% CI: 2.64–6.75). Education level was positively associated with cessation: medium (aHR = 1.79) and high (aHR = 2.17) education levels had higher quit rates than low education. Only students showed significantly higher cessation rates among employment groups (aHR = 6.19). Exposure to e-cigarettes was linked to lower cessation likelihood, although frequency of use was not significant. Female gender and higher education are key factors in successful smoking cessation. Programs should address social disparities and offer targeted support for less-educated and socially disadvantaged populations.

Abstract

Nutrition remains a major public health issue in Indonesia, significantly affecting the quality of human resources. One persistent nutritional problem is stunting, which continues to impact many communities, including Pacciongang Hamlet, where data showed a stunting prevalence of 11.1%. The program included problem identification, development of a problem-solving framework, and implementation through a series of activities: pre-test, health education, post-test, and practical training. One key intervention was a demonstration of preparing complementary food using local ingredients—specifically, Moringa leaves processed into nutritious pudding. Moringa was chosen due to its high protein content and availability in the village.  To evaluate the effectiveness of the intervention, pre- and post-tests were conducted to assess participants' knowledge on stunting, exclusive breastfeeding, and the benefits of Moringa. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon test. The results showed a significant increase in participants' understanding, with a p-value < 0.05, indicating a meaningful difference in knowledge before and after the counseling sessions. Additionally, the demonstration session successfully empowered participants to prepare and serve Moringa pudding following the given recipe. This initiative not only increased awareness of stunting prevention but also provided a practical solution using affordable and accessible local resources. In conclusion, the health education and training activities were effective in enhancing community knowledge and skills related to child nutrition and stunting prevention. This community-based approach highlights the importance of local resource utilization and participatory education in improving public health outcomes.

Abstract

Mental health is an essential aspect of an individual's life that affects adaptability to stress, productivity and overall well-being. Improving mental health literacy is an important preventive strategy in dealing with psychological challenges, including promoting positive attitudes, self-efficacy, and help-seeking behavior. This study aims to identify educational and digital technology-based interventions and evaluate their effectiveness in improving mental health literacy. The method used was a traditional literature review of ten relevant scientific articles, obtained through a rigorous selection process from PubMed and Google Scholar databases. The initial search yielded 1,524 articles from PubMed and 201 from Google Scholar.  Articles were obtained using a combination of keywords such as “mental health promotion”, “intervention”, ‘adolescents’ and “mental health education”. The analysis showed that different forms of interventions, such as online trainings, mental health curricula, digital self-efficacy training, and audiovisual media, were effective in increasing understanding, positive attitudes, self-efficacy, and propensity to seek professional help. The success of interventions relies heavily on contextualized, interactive and active participation-based designs, as well as integration with social support. Therefore, the development of adaptive, inclusive, and sustainable intervention models is crucial in strengthening efforts to promote and prevent mental health problems.

Abstract

Mental health is a crucial aspect of marriage and pregnancy that is often overlooked in premarital counseling. This study aims to examine the role of marriage counseling in shaping prospective mothers' positive attitudes towards mental health. Through a literature review of ten relevant research articles, it was found that premarital counseling is effective in enhancing mental readiness, reducing anxiety, and fostering prospective mothers' understanding of mental health, marital communication, and preparation for pregnancy. Counseling interventions, whether face-to-face, online, or through technology-based approaches, have been proven to strengthen prospective mothers' readiness for marriage and parenthood. However, long-term effectiveness depends on participants' active involvement and environmental support. Therefore, innovative, interactive, and sustainable counseling programs are necessary to maximize their impact.

Abstract

Proper management of B3 (Hazardous and Toxic Materials) medical waste in hospitals is essential to prevent adverse impacts on patients, visitors, and healthcare personnel. This study aims to compare the B3 medical waste management practices between public and private hospitals in Takalar Regency. This research employed a quantitative observational method with a cross-sectional approach. The population comprised all medical waste management officers and cleaning service personnel at the selected hospitals. Sampling was conducted using a non-probability total sampling technique, whereby all members of the population were included as research subjects. Data analysis was performed using the Mann–Whitney U test. The results revealed significant differences in waste segregation (p = 0.013), containment (p = 0.001), temporary storage (p = 0.015), and transportation (p = 0.004) practices between public and private hospitals. Both types of hospitals were found not to conduct training on B3 medical waste management for relevant personnel and failed to provide complete personal protective equipment (PPE), such as boots, aprons, gloves, masks, and goggles, during handling activities. It is recommended that both public and private hospitals ensure the availability of adequate and complete PPE, enforce proper usage among medical waste handlers and cleaning staff, and enhance management practices in accordance with established regulations.
