kesehatan.

Abstract

Dengue fever is blood bone disease which is transferred through dengue virus infected Aedes mosquitos spread commonly in tropical and sub-tropical areas across the world. This research aims to describe the management of dengue fever case eradication program in Maros Regency. It uses a descriptive qualitative method in scrutinizing the issue. The research samples consist of 22 informants who are selected using the purposive sampling technique. The findings indicate that the management of the dengue fever eradication program is divided into several divisions namely agent management, media management, host management, and case management. In this case, the agent management division is responsible in identifying dengue fever patients by utilizing Active Case Detection (ACD) and Passive Case Detection (PCD) methods. Furthermore, the program manages the vector control through Abate utilization, larva monitoring agent designation, and fogging. Environmental control is carried out through the 3M program (close, drain and bury) and house yard cleaning. In addition to that, the program also encourages dengue fever patients to do self-medication by increasing their thrombocyte level and reducing their hematocrit level. Overall, many stakeholders participate in the dengue fever eradication program in Maros Regency, including the Health Department of Maros, health centers across Maros, local government, as well as community members. Finally, this research recommends the Health Department of Maros improve the quality of Abate distribution to health centers across Maros Regency

Abstract

Waste management is a complex challenge faced globally, including Indonesia. This is due to the imbalance between waste production and processing. Waste production in Indonesia reaches around 23.1 million tons of waste every year. With high inorganic waste production, effective waste handling and processing efforts are needed to reduce excess waste volume. The purpose of this study is to assess the effectiveness of the counseling and training program for processing inorganic waste into crafts by measuring the increase in knowledge of SD Negeri Kanreapia students about processing inorganic waste into crafts and assessing the sustainability of processing inorganic waste into crafts. The type of evaluation conducted is using a mixed methods research approach, which is an approach that combines quantitative and qualitative methods with a total of 31 respondents. The quantitative method uses a questionnaire as a research instrument, while qualitative is done by observation and in-depth interviews. The evaluation results based on the Friedman test showed that there was a significant difference (p-value = 0.000 <0.05) in respondents' knowledge before, after training, and after 8 months of intervention with sufficient knowledge of 70.9% or 22 respondents. The results of the activity showed a significant difference in respondents' knowledge related to inorganic waste processing before the intervention, after the intervention, and after 8 months of intervention.

Abstract

Background: Breastfeeding is globally recognized as the optimal form of infant nutrition due to its numerous health benefits. However, the decision between breastfeeding and formula feeding presents ethical dilemmas influenced by medical, socio-economic, cultural, and religious factors. The interplay between parental autonomy, healthcare professionals' responsibilities, and societal norms creates complexities in infant feeding choices. Objective: This study aims to analyze the ethical considerations in breastfeeding and formula feeding decisions, emphasizing parental rights, healthcare responsibilities, and the influence of cultural and religious values. Methods: A literature review was conducted to examine ethical principles, including autonomy, beneficence, and non-maleficence, in the context of infant feeding choices. The study also explored real-world cases where parents opted for formula feeding due to various constraints. Additionally, religious perspectives, particularly from Islamic teachings, were analyzed to understand their role in shaping breastfeeding practices. Results: The findings highlight that while breastfeeding remains the gold standard, formula feeding is sometimes necessary due to medical, economic, or social reasons. Ethical dilemmas arise when parental autonomy conflicts with public health recommendations. Healthcare professionals play a crucial role in providing evidence-based information, supporting informed decision-making, and mitigating societal stigma associated with infant feeding choices. Conclusion: Ethical considerations in infant feeding require a balanced approach that respects parental autonomy while promoting the best interests of the child. Healthcare professionals must ensure that parents receive accurate information and support to make informed decisions. Addressing societal and religious influences is essential in fostering an inclusive and supportive environment for all feeding choices.

Abstract

Previous studies on household waste management have predominantly focused on urban settings with established infrastructure, leaving a gap in the understanding of waste-related behaviors in remote island communities. This study explores the behavior of residents toward household waste management on Barrang Lompo Island, Kecamatan Sangkarrang, South Sulawesi. Employing a quantitative descriptive observational design, this research surveyed 307 respondents from a total of 1,324 households using non-probability convenience sampling. The independent variables included knowledge, attitude, and practice, while the dependent variable was household waste management. The results revealed that community knowledge was predominantly good (76.6%), although attitudes were mainly less favorable (60.2%), and actions were generally poor (51.5%). These findings suggest that while awareness is relatively high, it has not translated into consistent behavior, indicating a disconnect between knowledge and practice. The study underscores the urgent need for targeted environmental education, local regulation, and collaboration with public agencies to enhance sustainable waste practices. These implications are especially vital for remote and densely populated island communities where poor waste handling poses severe environmental and public health risks.
