Abstract

There is existing concerns from clinical education that nursing students need to improve confidence on clinical performance. Confidence is basis of nursing education and determines graduates’ level of competence to enter workforce. Confidence promotes safe and effective patient care. However, it is challenging to understand concept of confidence and how nurse educators instill confidence with innovative teaching strategies. The purpose of this review is to discuss concept of confidence, factors influencing confidence, and teaching strategies to improve students’ confidence. Science Direct, EBSCOhost, and Pubmed databases were used to identify evidence based research related to students’ confidence and teaching strategies. The key words included confidence, nursing students, teaching strategies, and clinical performance. The articles were selected based on objectives, relevance, and year published. The result suggested that simulation should be modified by other strategies such as repeated simulation, team based learning, and self-debriefing. Another strategy is multidisciplinary teaching using technological tool such as video podcasting, immersive 3d interaction, game-based learning and video-based learning. Clinical confidence is an essential element in students’ clinical performance. Innovative and creative teaching strategies are needed to instill nursing student’s confidence. Further studies are needed in assimilation of teaching strategies for nurturing students’ clinical confidence.

Abstract

Since Indonesia declared the COVID19 pandemic emergency, all elementary schools have implemented an online learning system. However, in January 2021, the Padang City Government decided to introduce a private learning system with rules that comply with health protocols.Nevertheless, the problem of e-readiness was identified as the main challenge that influences teachers to become good facilitators for online learning. The purpose of this study is to find out how elementary school teachers in West Sumatra try to incorporate e-learning into their classrooms and what factors influence their motivation. The approach used in this study is a qualitative approach by distributing questionnaires to 30 respondents. Analytical interactive model was used to analyze the data and it was found that teachers in schools located in city centers with adequate internet access were ready to implement e-learning systems. There are also significant differences in motivation levels between public and private school teachers. In addition, several factors have been identified that teachers should consider supporting their desire to learn online including those related to well-instruction, high-quality content, good relationships, and good mental health.

Abstract

This research is intended to examine the extent to which financial performance and market performance encourage financial stability in the long term, especially during the pandemic for 50 transportation companies in Indonesia. The purpose of this study focuses on measuring the financial performance of 2 ratios, namely the Retun On Asset and Debt Equity Ratio, and market performance as measured by Price Earning Ratio and Price Book Value, before and during the pandemic. This research is quantitative. by using secondary data. The sampling used in this study was purposive sampling, with a sample of 50 transportation companies listed on the IDX from 2018 to 2021 with a total of 600 data. Hypothesis testing in this study used a non-parametric test, namely the Wilcoxon-signed rank test to analyze the difference in the mean of two related variables. This test is to see differences in the financial and market performance of transportation companies before and during the covid-19 pandemic in Indonesia. The data processing in this study uses SPSS version 26. The Wilcoxon Signed Rank results show that there are differences in PER, PBV and ROA were significant before and during the COVID-19 pandemic, while there was no difference in DER.

Abstract

Speaking has the important role in life. All of students also need to know the importance of English speaking skill. By having good speaking skill, the students will be able to communicate each other and develop them to be wise speakers both in the class and daily life. There are many kinds of strategies applied by teacher in teaching speaking. But the teacher might select the strategy that appropriate with the students need. The strategy for teaching greatly affects the students’ understanding in a process of learning. The main purposes of this research what strategies teachers use in developing speaking skills and the reasons why students find it difficult to learn speaking. Researchers conduct the data by using observation and interview methods. Abstract

This research aimed to analyze the practice of elicitation technique in EFL classroom interaction. The research was conducted in descriptive qualitative method. There were three English teachers taken as participant. The data were collected by observation. The data analysis was followed by Gay (2010). The result of this research revealed eight types of elicitation; elicit: inform, elicit: confirm, elicit: product, elicit: choice, elicit: repeat, elicit: process, elicit: clarify, and elicit: agree were used by English teachers. Elicit: inform was the most frequent type of elicitation used which reached 58,30 %. This indicates that English teachers had applied elicitation techniques in turn-taking practices in EFL classroom interaction.

Abstract

Proposal is a scientific writing done by the fourth year students as one of the fulfilments to get undergraduate degree. Students had difficulties in writing the proposal such as developing the introduction of the proposal, discussing the related theories and findings, methodology and also in terms of language components: grammar, vocabulary, and organization of ideas in paragraphs. The purpose of this research was to know what are the fourth year students’ problems in writing proposal. This research was a descriptive research. The participants was all the fourth year students of English department of STKIP Abdi Pendidikan Payakumbuh. The participants was chosen by using purposive sampling. The instrument used was questionnaire. Based on the result, it was shown that the most difficult part of writing proposal is introduction, writing the background of the problem and also in formulating the purpose of the research. Next, the students got problem in literature review, writing the related findings and also the coverage of the related theories. After that, the students got problem in methodology, especially in writing the procedures of doing the research. Finally, the students got problem in writing the bibliography especially in writing references for articles or journals without the writers’ names.

Abstract

Many students think that learning English is very difficult and boring. This is because English is a foreign language and they are afraid to make mistakes. This happens due to various factors, such as lack of mastery of vocabulary and grammar, improper pronunciation and a learning atmosphere that cannot attract students. These problems can be found in all aspects of ability in English, especially in speaking. Qualitative method used in this study and content analysis will ne used as data analysis. Based on the study, the writer conclude that English teachers in junior high schools, especially first graders, can also use Sephonics to improve students' English pronunciation, so that students will be more interested in learning, be active, and can also improve their language skills.

Abstract

This research were aimed to analyze the strategies used by the English teachers in giving corrective oral feedback on students’ speaking performance and their reasons tend to use particular strategies in giving oral corrective feedback on students’ speaking performance at SMA Adabiah 2.The type of this research was descriptive qualitative research. The data were collected through video recorder and interview. The sources of data were 5 English teachers at SMA Adabiah 2 Padang. The finding of this research indicated that oral corrective feedback strategies used by the teachers were explicit correction, recast, clarification request, metalinguistic clue, elicitation, and repetition. The most strategy used by the English teachers was recast and then explicit correction. Particular strategies used by the teacher because they know the level of the students’ motivation, condition, and the ability in understanding and receiving what has been given by the teacher. Abstract

This study was conducted to analyze the extent to which recount texts in two selected English textbooks meet the recount text criteria and to find out the similarities and differences of the recount texts between the two selected English textbooks. This study employed a descriptive qualitative method. The data in this study were four forms of recount texts taken from the two selected textbooks. Data analysis was done through analyzing, displaying, reducing, and drawing a conclusion. The data of this study include the generic structure, social objectives, and linguistic elements. The results of the analysis showed findings as follows: (1) four forms of the recount texts in the English textbooks have met the generic structure criteria, namely orientation, event, and reorientation; (2) one of the four recount texts fulfilled social goals; and (3) the four recount texts fulfilled the linguistic element. In short, the recount texts in English textbooks were similar to in terms of linguistic elements and type of process, while differences were found in terms of social goals and generic structure.

Abstract

During the Covid-19 pandemic, an already existing learning crisis impacted Indonesian education lag, resulting in learning loss and widening learning gaps between regions and socioeconomic groups. Furthermore, as learning styles have shifted from traditional to technology-based learning methodologies, the current digitalization era is one of the benchmarks for the emergence of curriculum reform in Indonesia. Freedom of Learning Curriculum, also known as Kurikulum Merdeka, is a solution to today's problems in Indonesian education. This research is a qualitative study in which data is collected through documentation and literature techniques. The documents studied were books, notes, and previous research reports that focused on curriculum reform and curriculum freedom. The collected data was subsequently evaluated utilizing qualitative descriptive analysis techniques. The Kurikulum Merdeka was developed as part of the learning recovery effort as a more flexible curricular framework, concentrating on key materials and the development of student character and competences.
