Abstract

Objective: This study investigates how race and gender are represented in canonical and contemporary English literature, offering a lens into historical power structures and social identity. Method: Using a critical literary analysis approach, the study examines four key works—Othello, Jane Eyre, Wide Sargasso Sea, and Americanah. Each text is analyzed to explore narrative strategies, character constructions, and social implications related to race and gender.  Results: The study finds that early literature reinforced social hierarchies through stereotypical representations, while later works increasingly interrogate and deconstruct these power dynamics. Postcolonial and feminist reinterpretations reveal the limitations of the original texts and offer more inclusive perspectives.  Novelty: By combining historical and contemporary works, this research demonstrates how literary narratives have both perpetuated and challenged dominant ideologies. It highlights the critical shift towards intersectionality in recent literature.

Abstract

Objective: This study aims to analyze the influence of social support and academic buoyancy on academic burnout among university students actively involved in student organizations. Method: A quantitative approach was employed using multiple regression analysis on a sample of 217 male and female students in early adulthood. The participants were selected through proportionate random sampling based on the Isaac & Michael table. Data were collected using three validated instruments: the Burnout Academic Scale (BAS), the Social Support Scale (SCS), and the Academic Buoyancy Scale (ABS). Results: The findings revealed that both social support and academic buoyancy significantly and negatively influenced academic burnout, with a combined contribution of 77.4%. Social support was the more dominant factor, contributing 54.1% to the variance in academic burnout, while academic buoyancy accounted for 23.2%. Novelty: This study highlights the critical role of social support in mitigating academic burnout among student organization members, providing empirical evidence that complements existing literature by emphasizing the interaction between socio-emotional and resilience factors in high-demand academic environments.

Abstract

Objective: This study aims to examine the correlation between students' levels of resilience and the severity of their quarter-life crisis. Method: Utilizing a quantitative correlational design, the research involved 160 students from STIKES Majapahit Mojokerto, selected through a saturation sampling technique. Data were collected using validated scales on resilience and quarter-life crisis, and analyzed using Pearson correlation. Results: The findings indicate a statistically significant negative correlation between resilience and quarter-life crisis (r = -0.260, p < 0.05), suggesting that higher levels of resilience are associated with lower levels of quarter-life crisis among students. Novelty: This study contributes to the limited body of research that addresses the protective role of resilience during early adulthood, particularly among students in Indonesia who are navigating the critical transition into the workforce and independent adulthood. While the quarter-life crisis is a well-known construct in developmental psychology, this research uniquely highlights resilience as a key mitigating factor in this specific cultural and developmental context.

Method: Utilizing a cross-sectional survey-based approach, the research collected data on sleep duration, quality, timing, and associated lifestyle factors, including digital habits, diet, and academic workload. Results: The findings reveal that irregular sleep patterns, excessive screen time, and academic pressures are major contributors to sleep deprivation among Gen Z students. Poor sleep quality is linked to diminished memory, concentration, and problem-solving abilities, as well as heightened stress, mood disturbances, and compromised physical health. Novelty: This study provides a comprehensive analysis of the multifactorial influences on sleep behavior among Gen Z students, highlighting the critical connection between digital lifestyles and sleep health. The insights gained advocate for targeted interventions by educators and policymakers to promote healthier sleep practices, underscoring the essential role of sleep in fostering cognitive performance and emotional resilience in the digital era.

being and the quarter-life crisis among fresh graduates of Universitas Muhammadiyah Sidoarjo. Method: A quantitative correlational approach was employed with a sample of 279 respondents, selected using the Issac & Michael table. The Psychological Well-Being scale based on Ryff's theory and the quarter-life crisis scale based on Robbins and Wilner’s aspects were utilized as instruments. Results: The Spearman rho correlation test revealed a very strong inverse correlation between psychological well-being and the quarter-life crisis (r = -0.884; p < 0.001), indicating that higher mental well-being is associated with a reduced likelihood of experiencing a quarter-life crisis. Additionally, determination analysis showed that psychological well-being accounts for 78.1% of the variance in the occurrence of a quarter-life crisis. Novelty: This research contributes to understanding the significant role of psychological well-being in mitigating the challenges faced during the transition from graduation to the workforce, emphasizing the importance of mental health support during university years to prepare graduates for post-graduation challenges.

Abstract

Objective: Objective: This article examines how contemporary Russian-language poetry in Kazakhstan from 2019 to 2024 engages with themes of decolonization and identity. Method: Drawing on a qualitative analysis of works by Kazakhstani Russophone poets, we explore how these writers navigate the legacy of Russian cultural dominance while asserting local and hybrid identities. Through close reading of poetic texts (with original Russian and English translation), we illustrate how these poets both confront and reclaim the Russian language as a medium for Kazakhstani expression. Results: The study finds that recent geopolitical events have intensified reflection on language and identity among Kazakhstani poets. Many poets incorporate bilingual elements, cultural nostalgia, and self-irony in their verses, challenging colonial narratives without entirely rejecting the Russian language. Novelty: The findings contribute to understanding the complex hybrid identity of Russophone literature in post-Soviet Kazakhstan and its role in the ongoing decolonization of the cultural space.
