Abstract

The integration of innovative teaching methods into early education is crucial for creating a dynamic and engaging learning environment. Among these methods, IBL stands out for its potential to develop critical thinking, creativity, and active participation among students. This qualitative descriptive research investigates integrating IBL into English instruction at the elementary school level. The study explores teachers’ perspectives on incorporating inquiry-based methods, students’ experiences, and engagement with such approaches and identifies challenges and successes in implementing IBL. Data were collected and analyzed thematically through interviews, classroom observations, and document analysis. The findings reveal that teachers view IBL positively, recognizing its potential to enhance critical thinking skills and student engagement. However, challenges such as time constraints and concerns about standardized testing were also identified. Students reported increased motivation and collaborative learning experiences through inquiry-based instruction. The study highlights the significance of IBL in promoting a deeper understanding of language concepts and fostering essential skills for 21st-century learners. Recommendations for future practice and research support further integrating inquiry-based methods into elementary English instruction.

Abstract

Research shows that PBL, which places students as active subjects in learning by emphasizing problem solving, provides better results in improving vocabulary understanding compared to conventional learning. Students who engage in PBL tend to have higher scores because they are actively involved in the learning process, where they are faced with challenging problems and given the opportunity to find their own solutions. In an effort to increase the effectiveness of the learning process, the use of learning models is crucial. The right learning model plays an important role in achieving educational goals. The purpose of this article is to compare conventional learning models and Problem-Based Learning (PBL) in understanding Indonesian vocabulary. By using qualitative methods. However, there are several obstacles in implementing PBL, such as lack of familiarity of students and teachers with this model and time constraints. However, the effectiveness of a learning model does not only depend on the model itself, but is also influenced by various other factors such as student characteristics, the quality of teacher teaching, and school environmental conditions. Thus, selecting a learning model that suits students' needs and characteristics is the key to achieving effective learning goals and increasing understanding of Indonesian vocabulary.

Abstract

Modulation techniques are used when there is a gap in the lexical meaning of a translation, so a shift in semantic meaning is needed, such as a change in perspective, to avoid untranslatability in translation. This study analyzes the use of modulation techniques in translating Qur’anic kin?yah verses. Kin?yah is a figurative expression to describe something with a different meaning from its original. Therefore, translating kin?yah verses requires an in-depth understanding of the implicature hidden in the utterance. This study uses a qualitative approach with a content analysis method. The researcher will examine the content of the study of Qur’anic kin?yah verses and their translations from the Ministry of Religious Affairs. The research uses primary data sources in the form of Qur’anic kin?yah verses with a law theme due to differences of opinion among scholars and researchers. Then, the research analyzes the application of the modulation techniques and their implicature meaning based on relevance. The research finds that the Qur’anic kin?yah verses have shifted meaning from denotative to connotative, which aims to hide the original meaning and avoid inappropriate words. After analyzing the implicature meaning, it is found that the law-themed Qur’anic kin?yah verses contain majazi (connotative) meanings that refer to the meaning of intercourse as seven utterances, marriage as two utterances, and menstrual blood as one utterance. The shift in meaning has implications for better understanding and avoiding ambiguity in the translated text. Also, it contributes to the improvement of the readability and quality of translated Qur’anic verses.

By examining various forms of media, such as social media posts, news articles, and visual images, this research aims to reveal the forms of Palestinian resistance through semiotic analysis. Through the lens of semiotics, the study explores how media representations shape public perceptions and contribute to the narrative of the Palestinian struggle. This research employs a qualitative descriptive method. The data collected includes sentences, images, hashtags, and symbols from social media posts, news articles, and visual images. The data collection method used is non-participatory observation, where the researcher observes and records sentences, images, hashtags, and symbols in these various media and then correlates them with their context based on semiotic theory. Additionally, the researcher conducts interviews with community leaders and experts in interpretation to gain deeper perspectives. After collecting the data, the researcher processes it through reduction, classification, verification, and tabulation based on its type, then performs interpretation and concludes the findings. The research results show that the resistance of the Palestinian people manifests in the following forms, namely 1) expressions of condemnation of Israel; 2) visual images such as pamphlets, flags, cartoons, and documentary films; 3) supportive, struggle, and condemnation hashtags; and 4) symbols like watermelons, kufiya or smagh, and keys. This research contributes to a deeper understanding of the role of media in conflict zones and the importance of semiotics in interpreting resistance movements.
