This research entitled “Pronunciation Errors Made by the Fourth Semester Students of English Department of UINSU”. The aims of this research is to find out the characteristics of errors commonly occur in English pronunciation errors and the causes of errors made by the fourth semester students of English Department at FKIP of Universitas Riau commonly. This is a descriptive qualitative that analyzed about pronunciation errors include vowels, consonants, diphthongs, which pronounced by the fourth semester students of English Department of F. In conducting this research, the group of population was selected to be a participant by using purposive sampling. There were 78 population and only 39 students as the participants. The test was taken in audio recording. After analysing the data, from the three aspects that writer analyzed it was found some data and concluded that pronunciation error were made by the fourth semester students of English department of Universitas Riau in high error. There were was error in vowel 82.05 %, consonants with 41.02 % and diphthong 38.46 %.

In most languages, vowels before voiced consonants are longer than before unvoiced consonants. Attempts to explain this difference in vowel length with putative physical or physiological limitations in speech production have been generally unsuccessful. We propose the alternative hypothesis that speech communities deliberately vary vowel length to acoustically enhance the final duration of vowel distinctions. According to the principle of continuous contrast, a long vowel should make a short final interval ofappear even shorter and therefore stronger, while a short vowel should make a long final interval appear longer and stronger. so stronger. Therefore stronger.so deaf To support this auditory hypothesis, we show that for jaba/-/apa/ stimuli that vary in duration of medial occlusion and for square-wave stimuli that temporally mimic these speech stimuli, a longer initial segment evokes a change. reliable in both subjects. Restrictions on category labeling towards longer media slot durations. We also discuss other ways that language communities can use sharp contrasts to enhance phonological distinctiveness.

Phonetic symbols are symbols used to explain how a sound is formed. Phonetic symbols can help students explain the different sounds of various English words. The purpose of this study is to find out students' perspectives on learning phonetic symbols. This research uses descriptive qualitative to find English Foreign Language (EFL) students' perspectives on learning phonetic symbols. Data was collected through a questionnaire created with google form that the writes has calculated and analyzed. The results show that students' perspectives are positive in learning phonetic symbol, and earning phonetic symbols, students feel helped in pronunciation and make it easier for them to distinguish each word that has the same pronunciation. Even though many students agree that learning phonetic symbols is difficult, they also strongly agree that learning phonetic symbols can help them speak English better. With this paper, the writers hope that students are able to apply phonetic symbol learning in English language activities so that English pronunciation becomes better.

In the English language, spelling and pronunciation have a particularly strange relationship. How we write a word and how we say it often do not match. There always seem to be discrepancies and exceptions to the rules of thumb. When we say a word, the sounds we make naturally consist of word parts. We call these parts ‘syllables’. A syllable can be defined as any one of the parts into which a word is naturally divided when it is pronounced. Hence, we might sat that phonetically (i.e. in relation to the way it is pronounced), a syllable is a unit of organization for a sequence of speech sounds. It is made up of a centre of syllable, called a nucleus (mostly a vowel), with optional initial and final sounds (typically, consonants). English pronunciation of words isn’t always intuitive. The same letter combinations in one word may make a completely different sound in another. One way to practice your pronunciation is by breaking words down into syllables. Syllables are the sonic units of a word, sometimes called the “beats” of a word. We do this naturally when we speak. Every time you say a new syllable, your mouth has to change its shape and make a new sound. Noticing when this happens and counting syllables can help you break words down into recognizable patterns that are easier to pronounce.

Language is part of humans since birth, one of which is English where the use of this language is widely used almost all over the world and has become an international language. In language, good and correct pronunciation of a word can affect the response that will be received by the listener. Pronunciation plays an important role in personal and social life. The purpose of this article is to find out what errors and difficulties are often experienced by students when pronouncing words in English. This study uses a qualitative method, to find the perceptions experienced by students towards errors and difficulties in pronouncing words which will then be described based on the results found. Data was collected through questionnaires and interviews which have been calculated and analyzed. The results show that many students experience errors in the pronunciation of English words due to the lack of student activities in listening such as listening to podcasts, movies, music from native speakers, and the differences in accents that students have with native speakers, and also students experience errors and difficulties in pronouncing words because there are words that sound almost the same but actually are not therefore students have difficulty distinguishing them.

The data was gathered via a preliminary assessment to gauge the level of vocabulary proficiency before using the Cake application. This study investigates whether the Cake application significantly enhances vocabulary proficiency among 8th-grade EFL students. This was followed by a period of application use, and subsequently, a post-assessment was conducted to assess the enhancement in vocabulary mastery after utilizing the program. The data analysis was performed using SPSS 25, which included doing normality tests, descriptive statistical analysis, and paired T-tests. The research results indicated a significant improvement in students' proficiency in vocabulary after the use of the Cake program, as shown by a mean pre-test score of 53.67 and a post-test score of 76.00. The paired T-test confirmed this disparity with a significance value of 0.000, suggesting that the enhancement in students' learning outcomes was not a result of chance. The study's findings indicate that using the Cake application is a successful method for enhancing pupils' proficiency in English vocabulary. This program not only improves vocabulary abilities, but also stimulates students' enthusiasm for studying English with its captivating interactive elements. Hence, it is advisable for educators to contemplate using digital tools such as Cake to boost vocabulary acquisition inside the classroom setting.

The study titled "The Complex Interplay of Segmental and Suprasegmental Features in English Phonology: An Advanced Study" delves into the intricate relationships between the segmental (phonemes) and suprasegmental (prosody) elements of English phonology. Utilizing a multifaceted methodological approach, including acoustic analysis, perception experiments, corpus studies, and computer simulations, the research reveals how stress, intonation, and rhythm systematically influence the acoustic properties of vowels and consonants. Acoustic data analysis indicates that stressed syllables have higher pitch, greater intensity, and distinct formant frequencies, enhancing their perceptual salience. Perception experiments demonstrate that listeners heavily rely on prosodic cues to interpret meaning and resolve ambiguities in speech. Corpus studies highlight significant regional and contextual variations in the use of suprasegmental features, underscoring the phonological diversity within English dialects. Computer simulations using autosegmental-metrical models provide a theoretical framework that supports the hierarchical nature of phonological representations, where suprasegmental features modulate segmental structures. Interviews with native speakers and experts emphasize the practical importance of integrating segmental and suprasegmental analyses for comprehensive linguistic understanding and effective communication.

This study aims to explore the diversity of syllable types and develop a comprehensive classification framework. Analysis was conducted on the syllable structures of various languages to understand both common patterns and language-specific variations in syllable formation. Linguistic data from diverse languages were collected and analyzed to identify phonotactic patterns, morphological interactions, prosodic features, and phonetic realizations of syllables. Findings indicate a wide range of syllable structures, ranging from simple CV to complex structures with multiple consonants and vowels. There are also significant interactions between syllable structure and morphological processes, as well as prosodic features. The results of this study are integrated into a comprehensive classification framework that encompasses various phonological, morphological, and phonetic dimensions of syllables. Theoretical and practical implications of the research are discussed, along with recommendations for future research.
