Abstract

Rheumatism is a common health problem among the elderly, characterized by joint pain, stiffness, and limited mobility. This condition can disrupt daily activities and reduce quality of life. To increase public awareness of rheumatism management, a community service program (KKN-T) program, including a ginger compress, was conducted in Hamlet 3, Sumber Sari Village, as part of the Community Service Program (KKN-T) program at the Faculty of Health Sciences. Twenty-five participants, the majority of whom were elderly, attended the program. The training covered the definition of rheumatism, its signs and symptoms, causes, and the benefits of ginger compresses as a non-pharmacological therapy. Demonstrations on how to make and apply ginger compresses were conducted in person to ensure proper practice. The results of the program demonstrated an increase in participants' understanding of rheumatism and its management. Participants were also able to try ginger compresses directly and experience the benefits of the warm sensation that helps reduce joint tension and pain. Ginger compress therapy is considered easy, safe, and effective as a supportive measure in reducing rheumatic pain in the elderly.

Abstract

This study investigates the digital literacy proficiency among residents in RT 15, Sawah Lebar Baru Urban Village, Bengkulu City. Given how pervasive digital technology has become, it is crucial to assess the community's capabilities in safely accessing, managing, integrating, evaluating, and creating information. We utilized a descriptive quantitative approach, collecting data through a survey administered to the household heads in the area. The results indicate that most residents fall within a moderate level of digital literacy understanding. While basic digital proficiencies such as utilizing social media for communication and routine information retrieval are evident, there is a clear shortcoming in higher-order skills. This gap is most notable concerning digital security awareness and the capacity for critical evaluation of online content. The research recommends focused educational programs designed to bolster advanced digital competencies, thereby enabling the community to more effectively and securely capitalize on the opportunities presented by the digital landscape for personal and economic growth.

Abstract

Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (PHBS) is an essential strategy for improving public health, particularly among elementary school children (Ministry of Health RI, 2021). At this developmental stage, children are still forming daily habits and therefore require guidance to consistently practice personal hygiene. This educational activity was conducted at SDN 02 Kabawetan and involved 40 students from grades III and IV. The aim of the program was to enhance students’ knowledge and awareness regarding the importance of maintaining personal hygiene, especially in handwashing, dental hygiene, and nail cleanliness. The methods used included delivering material through PowerPoint presentations, animated videos, and live demonstrations, enabling students to better understand the concepts in an engaging manner. This PHBS education proved beneficial in increasing students’ understanding of disease prevention efforts, particularly in reducing the risks of diarrhea, dental caries, and helminth infections through clean and healthy behaviors. The results showed that students demonstrated a good understanding of the material, with approximately 80% able to explain the steps of PHBS and its health benefits. Overall, the activity had a positive impact on students’ health-related behaviors and is expected to be continuously implemented to establish long-term clean living habits and support a healthier school environment.

Abstract

Hypertension is a common chronic disease among the elderly and poses a risk of serious complications, including stroke, heart disease, and organ dysfunction. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of elderly exercise in reducing blood pressure among hypertensive elderly in RT 14, Jalan Gedang Subdistrict, Bengkulu City. The method used was a community service program involving health education, counseling, and hypertensive exercise practice conducted by 11 students of the S1 KKN students from the Faculty of Health Sciences, Dehasen University, Bengkulu together with cadres and community leaders, in collaboration with community cadres and local leaders. The exercise sessions lasted 30 minutes, recommended to be performed once a week, accompanied by blood pressure monitoring to observe the intervention's effects. Observations showed that the elderly in RT 14 had a high prevalence of hypertension, influenced by lifestyle factors, dietary patterns, and family history. Through this program, the community received education about hypertension, non-pharmacological therapy, and exercise practices that could lower blood pressure and improve the quality of life of the elderly. The program was also supported by the distribution of leaflets as additional educational media. In conclusion, regular elderly exercise integrated with health education can enhance knowledge, awareness, and self-management among the elderly in controlling hypertension. This activity is expected to serve as a sustainable health promotion model for the elderly community in the local area.

Abstract

Stunting remains a significant public health problem in Indonesia, particularly in rural areas facing challenges of recurrent infections, inadequate hygiene practices, and poor sanitation. Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (PHBS) is a simple yet effective approach to reducing this risk. This community service activity aims to strengthen mothers' understanding and implementation of PHBS as a key strategy for stunting prevention in Hamlet II, Watas Marga Village. Using a descriptive qualitative approach through counseling, demonstrations, observations, and group discussions, the program involved 32 mothers and caregivers of toddlers. The activity focused on essential practices such as proper handwashing, clean water use, safe food handling, hygienic complementary feeding (MP-ASI), and household sanitation. Results from the activity demonstrated increased awareness of how simple, consistent hygiene practices can reduce the risk of infections that contribute to stunting. Participants also demonstrated improved handwashing skills and a strong commitment to implementing PHBS at home. The program confirms that strengthening PHBS at the household level is an effective, low-cost, and impactful intervention in stunting prevention in rural communities.

Abstract

Gout is a degenerative disease that is commonly experienced by the community and can reduce quality of life if not properly managed. A lack of knowledge regarding risk factors, symptoms, and prevention of gout is one of the main contributors to the high incidence of this condition in the community. This community service activity aimed to improve public knowledge and awareness of gout through health education. A descriptive method with a participatory approach was applied through face-to-face counseling sessions. The activity was conducted in Tanjung Beringin Village, Hamlet III, from November 24 to December 22, 2025, involving 58 participants. Evaluation was carried out using pre-test and post-test questionnaires. The results showed an increase in participants’ knowledge after the counseling sessions, particularly regarding the causes, symptoms, prevention, and management of gout through healthy lifestyle practices. This activity demonstrates that health education is effective as a promotive and preventive effort to improve community health status. Therefore, gout health education should be implemented continuously and integrated with other community health programs.

Abstract

Hypertension is a public health problem with increasing prevalence and contributing to a high risk of cardiovascular disease. One of the main factors influencing this condition is an unbalanced diet, particularly high salt consumption and low nutritional intake. This community service activity aims to improve community knowledge and skills in managing hypertension through the implementation of a healthy diet based on local foods, specifically the use of pumpkin as a healthy snack alternative. The activity was conducted in Neighborhood Association (RT) 10, Jembatan Kecil Village, and involved 24 women as participants. The methods used included counseling, a demonstration of making pumpkin pudding, and an interactive discussion. The results of the activity showed an increase in participants' understanding of the relationship between diet and blood pressure control, as well as an increased awareness of the importance of choosing low-salt, nutritious snacks. Participants also demonstrated high enthusiasm and readiness to implement healthy eating patterns in their daily lives. Thus, practice-based education and the use of local foods have proven to be an effective and applicable approach in supporting hypertension prevention and control efforts at the community level.
