Abstract

This paper argues that interactive digital formats, including hypertext archives, social media storytelling, and narrative video games, constitute a uniquely potent medium for the contemporary re-imagination of Nigerian folklore and the supernatural. We propose the concept of the “Digital Uncanny” to describe the aesthetic and epistemological effect generated when familiar folkloric content is estranged and renewed through its remediation into nonlinear, participatory, and rule-based digital code. This uncanniness arises from a resonant formal alignment: the structural affordances of digital interactivity mirror the ontological principles of indigenous cosmologies, which often privilege multiplicity, cyclicality, and agential encounter over linear causality. Through close analysis of three distinct case studies—the archival hypertext of the Digital Okike project, the participatory viral threads of the #FolkloreThursday phenomenon on social media, and the systemic ritual gameplay of the Yoruba-inspired video game Ọlọjọ, this study demonstrates that digital literature does not merely document tradition but actively performs it. These works transform passive readers into active participants within digitally mediated ritual spaces, thereby reasserting the relevance and adaptability of indigenous knowledge systems in a global digital age. Ultimately, this research positions Nigerian digital storytelling as a vital site of cultural innovation, where the future of folklore is shaped through interactive, uncanny, and deeply contemporary forms.

Abstract

behavior, with ecological responsibility acting as a mediating variable. The research was conducted among public senior high school students in Makassar City. Data were collected using a set of valid and reliable Likert-based instruments, including the Environmental-Portrait Value Questionnaire (E-PVQ), the Environmental Identity (EID) Scale, the Responsibility Scale, and the Littering Prevention Behavior Scale. The data were analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM), and the final model demonstrated a good overall fit. The findings reveal several important relationships. Value orientation was found to have a positive and significant effect on environmental responsibility, indicating that students with strong pro-environmental values tend to feel more responsible for their environment. Environmental identity also positively and significantly influenced environmental responsibility. Furthermore, value orientation showed a positive and significant effect on littering behavior, suggesting that values can directly encourage responsible waste disposal. In contrast, environmental identity did not directly influence littering behavior in a significant way. However, environmental responsibility emerged as a key factor: it positively and significantly predicted littering behavior and served as a mediator in the model. Environmental responsibility successfully mediated the influence of both value orientation and environmental identity on littering behavior. Keywords: value orientation, environmental identity, responsibility, littering behavior, high school students

Abstract

In this study quasi-experimental design was adopted, employing a pretest–posttest, non-equivalent control group approach. A sample of 200 students was selected from four secondary schools using stratified random sampling. The experimental group was taught using the interactive/constructivist strategy, while the control group received instruction through the traditional lecture method. Data were collected using the Government Achievement Test (GAT), which was validated and yielded a reliability coefficient of 0.82. The research was guided by two questions and two null hypotheses tested at a 0.05 level of significance using Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA). Findings revealed that students taught with the interactive strategy achieved significantly higher mean scores in Government than those taught with the lecture method. However, gender was not a significant factor in determining students’ achievement, as both male and female students performed comparably under both strategies. Furthermore, the interaction between teaching strategy and gender was not significant, indicating that the effectiveness of instructional strategies transcends gender differences.

Abstract

School well-being is a key indicator of students’ psychological adjustment and academic success. Early adolescents face increasing psychological pressure and complex academic demands, highlighting the crucial role of family support in maintaining their well-being at school. This study examined the influence of parental involvement on the school well-being of 150 junior high school students in Makassar and Gowa, Indonesia, using a quantitative correlational design. The instruments included the school well being schale and the Parental involvement schale, both balidated through content and reability testing. The result revealed a strong positive correlation between parental involvement and school well being (r=0,782, p<0,01). Simple linear regression analysis showed that parental involvement accounted for 61,2% of the variance in school well being. These findings underscore the essential role of parents in fostering students’ positive psychological experiences at school and emphasize the urgency of developing programs that strengthen parent-school partnerships.
